I absolutely love my black widow recurve in 43 lbs great guys down there met them in person and they set me up and completely took care of me they build beautiful bows.
Thanks for making this video. I also shot alot of big fish with a couple of recurves that r long gone. After last season with the compound I just told myself I'm tired of hauling all that weight around. I would rather carry an extra camera than a compound. I now have 46 lb & 52 lb limbs for my setup. My 400 spine arrows r only tuned for the heavier limbs. 500 grain arrow with a 210 grain head with a 60 grain outsert. All high grade steel. Ridiculous FOC also but they r so tight & quiet with more speed than most would think. Lifetime warranty for everything but the bow & myself. Your tune looks real good & I think we both missed alot of years not toting around the trad. Take care.
I think you will be OK for Elk with that setup. I have shot high poundage with light arrows in the past for a flat trajectory. Holding 62ish pounds gets a bit tuff on the tendons at my age. I was purely instinctive or split vision, point pull shoot. Last year I decided to go down in draw weight and up in arrow weight. I actually adopted the three under grip and used the arrow point. Definitely a easier way to shoot with less practice. I am going to give the Elk a pass this year and go to New Mexico fly-fishing. I will carry a light weight recurve to make a meal or 2 out grouse.
You said Bear..... I hope in Elk Country... you would also carry a Glock 10mm AND a really sharp Bowie Knife of some kind.... I prefer the TOPS Pig Hunter myself :) BEARS hunt you ! Good Video.... I like my BW PSA X in Babinga wood... really smooth shooting !
I wanted to say I had struggled with years of target panic. I tried all kinds of stuff. I shoot trad and compound. I almost quit shooting honestly it was so bad. I decided to do a hard reset. I prayed hard and asked the Lord to please help me over come this. And I bough a light poundage bow and a tension release. And the Lord answered that prayer. That was about 5yrs ago and today I’m still shooting target panic free. Both compound and traditional. The Lord answered my prayer. I’m always being thankful. And he answered your as well sir! God bless.
Praise the Lord! Yes he did answer mine, I specifically needed Him to help me be able to shoot with the impairment in my right eye (dominant) eye. Glad to hear you are shooting and enjoying the great sport again!!
I am certainly no expert, but I believe 10 grains per pound of bow weight is more than adequate, so 43 pounds would be a 430 grain total arrow weight. I know that is more than required by most Boyers on their bows for warranty. most require 7 to 8 grains per pound. I would not hesitate to shoot whitetail deer or similar size game with a 43 pound bow with a 430 grain total arrow weight. Some will say 500 grain total arrow weight is the bare minimum, and more weight equals more kinetic energy, but my setup of 42 pounds shooting a 475 grain total arrow weight has performed flawlessly on the hogs I have shot, and I am confident it will do the same on whitetail deer. I am shooting a 42 lb Toelke longbow for whitetail deer, with a 200 grain single bevel Broad head on a 500 spine gold tip arrow, 480 grain total weight,have no problem with penetration and perfect arrow flight.
I shoot a cheap longbow omp at 40 lbs @28 use gold tip 500 spine 100 gr insert and a 150 gr magus single bevel broadhead I don’t know the speed but I keep my shots to 15 yards and under and get pass throughs on whitetail 99%of the time I have major shoulder issues light poundage if tune correctly is the only way to go in my opinion
Was thinking the same thing. 3 lbs heavier draw than the other bow with an extra 100 grain arrow and shooting 10 plus fps faster doesn’t compute with what I know about arrow speed.
There is no way in hell a 45 lb black widow is going to shoot a 580 grain Arrow at 180 ft per second. No way no how unless you got a 31 inch draw length. In which case you're not shooting 45 lbs anymore

Sir, you might consider a set of brush buttons for your recurves. FWIW. I have been thinking of a 56" Black Widow PSR-C carbon. 😀

If that 45@28 widow shoots a 580gr arrow at 180fps, you sir have the worlds fastest widow, by A LOT!!! I believe you have a faulty chrono

The 45 pound bow is shooting a 400 spine gold tip, and the 42 pound bow is shooting a 500 spine gold tip. Hope that helps.
40lbs is not a light bow man
By most people’s standards a 40 lb bow is light for a hunting bow
