I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one that understands that dish soap is okay to use, when necessary. I just re-season mine with olive oil and put it into my oven at 250 for a few hours...no rust, no problems. Blessings

I got my first iron skillet in 1979 as a high school graduation gift. I started using it in the mid 80's. My grandma taught me how to season and maintain it. A little dish detergent in your iron for a wash won't effect your seasoning. That's not oil in your skillet anymore it's a Polymer and it will hold up during the washing period. I don't think you want to soak it for hours with soap though.

I'm glad to see that you do this too! My mom taught me to dry mine on the stove top and then add oil to keep it from rusting. It's nice, shiny, and seasoned. No sticking!

A well seasoned pan needs no soap, only a sponge, warm water, and a Lodge scraper for the more stubborn spots. Until the pan reaches that level of seasoned polymerization, it is perfectly acceptable to use Dawn, or a similar dishwashing liquid to remove cooking residue. Remaining grease in very thin layers is good for continued seasoning, when adding Crisco or other oils to build up the coating through repeated heating.

You're welcome. Cast iron is a way of life for those of us who were raised with it (70 years and countingl), inherited it, still cook, collect, and swear by it. Next to playing bass, it's my go-to-in-retirement passion.🍳🎸

I wash mine, then I put it on the gas range let the flame heat it up just enough to dry off all the moisture. I don't put oil on it. I don't have any issue with rust.
