Yes, but it's a massive pity few thought so at the time (a million times infinity squared and then some that everyone welcomes her just 2 years before with a song as unexciting and so-so as 'Kids' and yet on an album that offers so much more than that song could ever hint at, THAT'S when they decide to tune out like a dumb radio!). This album remains one of her career-best, untouched by any and all others BY all others, and even regarding the other 2 career best that make up the set (both the records made either side of this release), this still holds up as the most experimental and highly revolutionary work, more multifaceted than the many eye-rays of a Beholder. Biggest pity, though, is her herself as SHE views it as a mistake, like it was a 90s love album or a bleeding Christmas, kids or covers album, or someone else's. And she STILL thinks that, as does her equally silly brother. Some people just don't know what they've got.
It IS one of her career-best, and I get what you mean. She and her family always emphasised on quality, never repeating yourself, and producing a wide range and variety of sounds and styles, never getting bogged down in one, but the early-mid 80s was always more creative than what followed as the late 80s loomed, going into the following decades of musical death for most and many. But it's not just the wonderful 'Shoot' that's so different. Think about all 10 tracks that make this album up. When has anyone else ever knocked out gems as diverse, unpredictable and hard-hitting as 'House Of Salome', 'Love Blonde' and the awesome 'Dream Sequence'. She even turns a potentially ordinary love song like 'Dancing In The Dark' into something standout that no one else can do, tells riveting stories across beautifully soundscaped backdrops, with aching moments of tearing sadness and forlorn aching as on 'Stay Awhile', 'Can You Hear It' and 'Sing It Out For Love'. Just think of how inspired an approach to music-making is a song like 'Back Street Joe'. Whole album's incredible and then some, as are the 3 songs that never made the cut-2 of them we only found out about just last year!
But on the contrary, I think that the second half of the 80s is the peak of the creativity of Kim and her group. There is reason to think that in the first half of the 80s she was still too young and was completely influenced in her work by the men of her family. They were along with everyone else in the mainstream of that time in Punk Rock music. Then they began to experiment and by the mid-80s they had developed their own unique style on stage. In the second half of the 80s, apparently Kim herself had already grown up and began to more lead the group’s creativity. And she matured as a stage performer and was at the peak of her outer beauty. Yes, she left Punk Rock closer to Pop, but the influence of the experiments of the early 80s is still very strong in her songs in the second half of the 80s
What a great album! ♥️

paul gibson It has a very Halloween feel to it. Would fit perfectly on a playlist with other 80’s spooky tracks for that holiday 💀🎃👻
