MacroBioBoi did a lot of math on the Merc options. The TL;DR of it is that Might is good Early, Thorns is better than might as it gets harder. The best setup ended up being a Might Merc + Bramble Armor. EDIT: Also, not having Decrepify is really hurting this.
Agreed. I feel like if you run might you need decrepify for the enemy damage reduction and slows enemies. Decrepify hurts thorns aura because slows enemies actually lowers your dps generated from reflect damage. I'm running a thorns merc and alternate between amp damage and life tap if my merc starts getting his clock cleaned. It clears faster than might/decrepify in Hell and even is much better on nightmare cows.

Another pro tip for anyone playing summoner: When you boost your skills. Resummon your army to have them with the skill increases. This also works with skill shrine. Once the shrine is gone, you’ll still have boosted army. But only at the max amount of skeletons you yourself can summon.
Actually underrated tip, this could make a fight you thought impossible, very possible. Been playing on a new necro just for fun, also learned that skeletal mastery is really nice for summons, especially with a wand that has +3 to mastery. Top it all off with a skill shrine, and your skeletons are gonna be shredding.

Mages have one specific use, and that is to provide a source of “Decrep” for bosses. Use the Unsummon as needed until you have a crew of Cold mages. Five or six of these can work in the short run, and are helpful when you can’t use Clay Golem (e.g. you have an Iron Golem aura valet)
The word you're looking for is "chill", decrep is your curse and can be applied on top of chill for the ultimate slow down in combination with the clay golem "slows by %".
Summon Nexro play style is far more enjoyable to me than using casters who rely heavily on mana. To me, it is far less fun spamming spells to kill monsters and popping multiple mana potions per burst. It feels so annoying to me to be in a state of Perpetual Mana Dehydration, PMD (I just coined that phrase). The unending thirst quench of mana potions ruins the gameplay, to me, for bone necros, sorceresses, and hammerdins. Ele druid, in my opinion, is less thirsty and easier to manage without the constant burst, pot, burst, pot playstyle of the previously mentioned. Honestly I love the playthrough of the summon necro. I always have. To me, it is so fun theory crafting the best possible layout to produce the strongest army.
Why do I like summon necro? I play QB, skellies for OFF line, Merc and golem run deep routes, I explode and spear from the pocket 8>D PS-Iron Golems make some of the throwaway items fun to use for Golem making
My favourite build. Takes a bit of setup at the start but I love the control you have at the higher difficulty. That teleport staff recharge cost is expensive tho.
I just started a necro gonna go summon build on Hardcore for season 5 ladder. I'm excited because I've never beaten Hell offline or online. Can't wait to group up.
White wand is great for summon necros. It has a solid (+3) boost to Skeleton Mastery. The trick is to shop a wand with two sockets and +3 to both Summon Skeleton and Summon Mastery.

For Diablo and the Throne/Baal, there is a case to be made for at least temporarily firing Barani and bringing Emilio along from Act II, particularly if you find the runes for Malice along the way. Barani doesn't hit hard enough.
Just played D2R (July 2023) as the Paladin and then the Summoner characters. I noticed that I could only have one MERC, but I recall playing the boxed version (for Win 10) several years ago and was able to have two at ACT 3. Excuse the ignorance of my comment, but I recently started playing Diablo, and I wanted to know if the number of players influences the difficulty not only of the minions but also of the bosses? *I put the game on 8 players difficulty (Offline playing) from the start, all pretty good, but Diablo took forever to kill him, he had lots of life, or it seems so. (I managed to kill him in 20 minutes or so)*
I'm pretty sure it does increase the damage and hit points of non bosses. It even states when you raise player level "Diablos minions grow stronger". You get increased XP because you're defeating stronger monsters but, of course, the real reason for increasing level is drop chances. Players 8 will have more champion packs and normally only champion packs can drop good items. As player levels increase normal minions start dropping good loot as well.
I saw from a comment on another video that there is no point in in setting the player number to eight. Exp and loot drops are calculated at breakpoints of seven, three and (I think…?) two. This means that setting the player number to two gives you more exp and better loot than setting the player number to one, and setting the player number to three gives you more exp and better loot than setting it the player number to two, but that setting the player number to four, five or six won’t give you more exp or better loot than setting the number to three. Setting the player number to seven will give more exp and better loot than a player number of three, but since player number of eight is not a breakpoint, you won’t get an advantage by setting the player number higher than seven.
@GrapeCheckerBoard you're half right. The loot drops don't change with even number settings. You'll get the same drops on players 3 as players 4. But the enemies will still get stronger and you'll get more experience from killing players 4 enemies than players 3.
Probably a non-LoD run is what you're looking for. Even in LoD it's still doable, just slow. SSF Summon Necro probably can make do without RWs the least. Lore is neat for the +1 skill. White is nice for + to P&B. Stealth, Rhyme, and Ancient's Pledge are nice. They're all not irreplaceable though. Besides, you're not getting Enigma in a single SSF play through anyway.

fire golem gets and keeps agro .. has this been forgotten about the summoner? A 1 point gumby with +skills is still quickly into diminishing returns on the slow effect, so it never makes much real sense to max him, so instead you have 18 extra points that can go into iron or fire .. iron is interesting with items with auras, but fire has its own aura built in that keeps agro and its immune to some of the worst damage in the game .. blood golem has been meh since they nerfed the iron maiden combo
you can play with 1 to 8 players, and the game will adjust difficulty based on that number. But you can play as a single player and force 8 player difficulty.
TH-camrs choose when and where in their video's ad's get placed. He just not as greedy or smarter about gaining & maintaining viewership vs trying to get more pennies in the shortterm.
Fresh economy, fresh start. It's also a great returning point for people who stopped playing for various reasons and feel overwhelmed coming back to their old characters and items.
The game seems easier compared to the one in the beginning of 2000-2001. Noticed merchants have MF items, don't remember that ever happening in the original.
I don't know about others but I will not purchase Diablo IV because of the monetization. I refuse to buy any game that requires me to buy a full game and then pay even more to win..

Hilariously, sword and board is probably the best way to play once you hit level 25. Spirit and Ancient's Pledge.

@@Derzull2468 Good call on the wording! "Chill" is better than "decrep" because those mages can't actually cause DC to have lower damage.
There's one thing that I wish they would do in one update or another is let the mercs wear more equipment. Gloves and boots and everything else.

1:51:12, little did Llama knew that he needed at least a couple points in skeleton mastery and summon resist. Skellies and golem dropped like flies.
You can see the little explosions from the skeleton attacks to know they are enchanted as well @1:58:00 ish

The summoner necro is great for when you don't mind taking your time. The necro spends most of his time picking up drops.

Your memory is wrong that never happened
As a Classic player I had a lot of trouble with summon necro at Diablo himself end of Act4. Nice to see how it is done right.
He is definitely the most efficient at taking out the golem.
Diablo is such a jerk in normal for a summon Necro, I had to rebuild my army and tp back in repeatedly.

Resurrected is the same as Diablo 2. There is no Diablo 2 at this point. If you want the legacy graphics you just hit g and it swaps.
There are many mechanical differences between the two now.

From my own personal experience, it shouldn't take longer than maybe 2-3 minutes so I think player count does indeed infulence bosses

Yes, Amp is -100% Physical Resistance, while Decrepify is only -50%.
