It's no question. In Germany it's not documented as it's normal and only " not normal" things are getting documented in your child's documents. It was a rhetoric question. There are some doctors and nurses unaware of it's origin but it wouldn't end in child abuse procedures as the majority knows it. Especially the forensic pathologist (?) who you have to call for consultation in Germany.

@a.r.r.i.9841 it's a way to prevent false child abuse charges. Mongolian spots can also be associated with other inherited disorders of matobolism, vascular birth marks and o.s.d. it should be documented to also have the child screened for them.

Mongolian Spots don’t come from Genghis Khan, that’s just a legend or myth, they happen when melanocytes get trapped in the deeper layers of your skin during fetal development. They’re temporary and go away in time. (But not always.)
The reason why Mongolian Spots are rarer on fairer skinned people is because fairer skinned people don’t have many melanocytes, and therefore don’t have the melanocytes to get trapped in the deeper layers of their skin, hence why it is rarer for them to get it.
Oh, and melanocytes are just the cells that give your skin it’s color, if you didn’t know.

Mongolian spots have been the bain of many parents; it’s common in certain cultures, but because the majority culture does not know that, calling CPS has been common and parents have been jailed and separated from their children.
Many, but not all, hospitals now require documentation at birth of Mongolian spots in an effort to be proactive down the road, but there’s hiccups with that; someone has to read the documentation.

When my oldest daughter was born, she had one. I wasn’t surprised, I had one when I was born (I’m Native American). I tried telling the doctor what it was, but they thought it was a bruise. This was a white doctor who primarily delivered white babies. She asked us to go to a dermatologist in a week to have them get it checked out. So we went to the dermatologist a week later because my wife wanted to make sure, it was our first child. The dermatologist looked at it, said he didn’t think it was a bruise but not sure what it was, again a white guy who primarily saw white patients. I suggested it was a Mongolian patch and that I had one when I was a kid. The dermatologist then pulls up google on his tablet in front of us, says oh yeah, that’s what it is. Then we had to pay $45 copay for the visit. Had to pay the doctor to tell him what it was, got to love it.

And I can see that happening. I am white, my kids are half Japanese. They had them too. To an untrained eye, they are might scare people who are unaware of what actual bruises look like. I teach in a Japanese daycare and they all have them, some are like tiger stripes all over the back, some on joints like ankles, elbows, knees and shoulders. I would never assume it was abuse even if I wasnt familiar with them because for one the things dont come and go till the child gets older. Also they arent in connection with anything else like a scratch or puncture or swollen. They are also consistantly the same color and dont usually have red or yellow hues like actual bruises and black and blue marks. Also as a kid I bruised like crazy from stuff I didnt even notice happened. like bumping into something like a table while walking or clipping a corner or something or falling too hard while sitting down, getting antsy while sitting too long and bumping into something. Actual abuse is also psychological as well as physical. Children will show fear at sounds, or punish themselves for making small mistakes, or behave in an out of control manner or get extremely clinging all of the sudden without being sick. YOu dont just assume a mark on the skin is abuse. Its scary that people jump to that conclusion so quickly.
