      It would be better for the franchise to put the present day story on a pause and let assassins from the past to fully cover the game so that assassins from future eras can continue their work whilst adding a little piece of their own until the present day protagonist can sumarize all events.

    For the final text and achievement translations, can the differences in "The" be that the "the weak" and "the strong" both refer to a plural/group subject, due to the inclusion of the plural suffix you pointed out earlier in the video, and the "The" in the achievement, which lacks that character, is referring to a singular subject?

    • @AccessAnimus
      @AccessAnimus  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yes, that's what we think too, the "^" character *may* indicate the plural in the article in the Stonehenge files, while it may be in its singular form in the achievement

    With the Stonehenge inscriptions being written by Lug the Polymath and Morrigan, I wonder if perhaps this'll have some connection to Wrath of the Druids, since both are gods in Irish mythology

      B I N G O

    • @mirandagoldstine8548
      @mirandagoldstine8548 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Probably. Lug is known as a guardian deity of many professions and is said to possess many a legendary weapon including Fragarach, the sword of Nuada the silver-armed (so named because after he lost an arm he had it replaced with an arm made of silver made by Dian Cecht which in turn is replaced with a flesh and blood arm by Micah, Dian Cecht’s son). There’s a wealth of legendary weapons in Irish mythology that could be explained as being Isu artifacts in game and there are also the four cities the Tuatha de Dannan (the children or folk of Danu or Don) are said to have come from when they invaded Ireland. Those could be explained as being Isu settlements and perhaps we’ll get a mention of Hy-Brasil, a legendary and myth-shrouded island whose existence is debated. We had DLC revolving around Atlantis so who’s to say Hy-Brasil won’t get mentioned. Another weapon of Irish legend is the sword of light or Claíomh Soluis which is said to have come from one of the four cities of the Tuatha de Dannan.

    To the text in minute 15:
    You assume the third word of the second line to be "workers", derived from the same root as "neighbour".
    But could it not also be possible that the word "site" is derived from "neighbour"?
    What, paying attention to the genitive rule, would rearrange that line to "worker-s construction-of site-from", or "workers from the construction's site"? (both examples omit the "of the lake" part for convenience)
    Just speculating here. I'm not that deep into the matter.
    By the way: Great work and great video! I find it very interesting and really appreciate your efforts. Keep on unpacking that language! Also, it would be interesting to have a video about the pronunciation :)

    So Morrigan and Lug come from Irish Mythology! Since the next DLC is going into Ireland, do you think we'll be exploring Irish-Isu lore?

  • @tystimyr
    @tystimyr 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Awesome work, I'm impressed!
    Two linguistic remarks:
    A preposition behind a word is called a postposition.
    I think it is not so precise to call that case an Ablative since normally this is specifically for 'coming from something (locally or semantically)' (in Latin the meaning became way broader, but this is not generally so). Therefore, I would rather call it a Locative since all occurrances express some remark to a location (incl. the more abstract ON this day). In my view it is more likely that a Locative also takes over directive meanings (in absence of specific directive cases).

  • @rubenvanholder3108
    @rubenvanholder3108 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Seeing this reminds me a lot of how old Greek is build up (conjugation of verbs and use of genitive similar suffixes to connect words etc) it makes a lot of sense that they tell us it was a “pre indo-European” language
    I think that if you compare the inner workings of languages like Greek latin Celtic Hebrew you will find a lot of similarities and extrapolating those mechanics to this “language” would give a lot of positive relations

    • @AccessAnimus
      @AccessAnimus  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is indeed true, we used Latin because our admins who worked on the "language" had studied it in high school, but of course you can approach them starting from any kind of language :D

  • @JoFoAKAForteen
    @JoFoAKAForteen 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    25:42 this would mean that the article on the achievement is an article on a singular conjugation, and the one in the document is in plural; I say that because in languages like portuguese and spanish we change the articles to match the conjugation too like "the weak" in singular is "o fraco", and in plural would be "os fracos". (in portuguese)

    • @AccessAnimus
      @AccessAnimus  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes indeed, it's the same way for us in Italian, we believe that the " ^ "symbol" in the article in the Stonehenge file is there to indicate it's plural :D

      The video itself took a few (almost full) days to do, but cracking the language... let's say that it took two of us since mid November until early January, every now and then :P

  • @jackblack5393
    @jackblack5393 ปีที่แล้ว

    for the excalibur morrigan inscription, isnt "the" a bit different than the one from the achievement because it has the plural sign? That would indicate its referring to multiple subjects, so "The weak" - "the weak ones"

  • @jflamen
    @jflamen 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Maybe the "do" root in "when" can refer to "when" being used as in describing something that is certain to happen, or at least believed to happen? Also the ^ mark in "the" is when the noun after is plural I think

  • @DrewTriebe
    @DrewTriebe 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The ^ symbol appears to be a pluaraliser in all cases, so its appearance in 'the' on the Morrigan text appears to be a collective 'the' or 'them'.

    Can you make a video explain how asgard, jotunheim or nine realms exist in the AC universe? How other isu divide into different land. Is atlantic also included in the nine realms or is it just a different place? Jotunheim is how norse see the isu land of minerva, jupiter and juno. So how jotunheim is called in greek myth, roman, or the isu themselve?
    I thing how the isu in asgard see the isu in jotuheim as frost giant because they actually larger than those in asgard. For example those isu we have met (jupiter,juno, aletheia, etc..) are all larger than normal human while those in asgard has the same size as human.

    This is so fucking awesome, thank you for putting in what must have been countless hours of research and experimentation to figure all this out.
    I suppose these documents all come from the Norse Isu, correct? Which means that there might be language differences from written Isu documents we find in later games? What an excellent video, about an even more excellent game series.

    • @AccessAnimus
      @AccessAnimus  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey! Thank you so much for the compliments, indeed we put countless hours into our comparative work in order to make sense of all of that :P But it was so much fun, especially at every single tiny discovery ^^
      So, we believe these are not only from the Norse Isu both because of the content of the various messages and also because of the locations where these inscriptions were found.
      For example, the Stonehenge files mention Morrigan and Lug the Polymath who are gods that actually belong to the Irish pantheon. The Saga Stone, instead, was originally placed at the entrance of the Yggdrasil Vault, so *that* was probably written by the Norse Isu.
      We believe that the reference to the ways the language was written by different Isu is placed in the game for two reasons: one is to justify how in several of the previous games players can find symbols that can be considered as Isu text (but they don't have any meaning) - we even wrote an article about it 3 years ago: www.accesstheanimus.com/GIN_Coded_Language_Isu.html.
      The other reason... well, we'll explain it in our next video :P

    A. Henry said that there is more than one isu script and that the first civ was not monolithic. Is ther more than one isu language? Indo european doesn't equal afro asiatic. Is this issue going to be accounted for?
