I did change all the electrolytics in the RF section so that should have fixed it if that was the problem. I didn't change any in the amplifier as it seems to work OK.
I feel your pain, re-stringing a radio can be a nightmare, especially when it is already broken & no service info is available. I started out with a cheap 1970's Rotel amp & separate matching tuner, it worked fine, but when replaced by an older Leak amp & tuner, the difference was vast!
@@neilsradios I actually got given an identical Leak stereo 70 & Stereofetic tuner that I had back in 1980 last year, both in good working order. A real trip down memory lane, sound quality is as good as I remember, I also got a pair of large Leak sandwich speakers from Freecycle a few months ago, so will get round to pairing it up & having a complete vintage Leak system 😁 Now on the lookout for a matching Leak turntable.....
I bought one off ebay, mkII version with the better rear connectors. It was parts only and had a dead channel which turned out to be a single cap in on tuning board. The bulbs were shot so I replaced with Leds but just as I finished the soldering the iron touched the string. The re-stringing was quite easy even though I hadn't done one before but I did use some stretchy cord. It worked but made tuning a little hit and miss so later I replaced with something better.
I had a similar problem with dial string. On my set turned out that, due an impact onto tuning knob, the shaft itself slides backwards from the flywheel changing the center of string action. Hammering back in position fixed it. On your unit the shaft seems to have a long groove but it uses less than half while rotating the knob. It might be that your set receive the same damage. Pretty unit by the way.
I did attempt to find a way to shim or trim the shaft/flywheel back and forth but drew a blank. I’m not confident in my ability to use a hammer on it without wrecking it 😊
I did try adding wax but if the bodge fails I might try some pre-waxed cord. There are 3 turns now and that’s what the manual says but there were only 2 when I got it.
As the FM seamed bass light, could be an electrolytic coupling cap on the output of the tuner has gone low, that would remove the LF.

I almost bought a Leak Stereofetic tuner at Retrotech last year but I’d promised myself I wouldn’t buy anything 🙄

Know how you feel - I too have had that sinking feeling when the soldering iron hits the tuning cord 🙄

My dad had one similar to this, except with two gauges on the left instead of one
Probably had the arrangement with a centred tuning meter and a separate signal strength meter, similar to the Sharp I did some time ago.
I.TOOK THE LID OF MY ROTEL AND IT IS 3 TURNS YOU GOT THAT. TRY USINY CANDLE WAX BEES WAX CURCH CANDLES .ALL THE BEST
