Tornado Lamp

- This lamp contains water and a large number of little plastic beads floating on the surface. Switch it on, and not only does the bulb light up, a fan starts to turn, spinning the water into a miniature tornado. As it gains in strength, it starts to pull the little beads down in the centre of the lamp, looking just like a small tornado. As the beads reach the bottom they disperse, and then travel back up to the surface at the edge of the vessel, ready to swirl down again in the tornado.
It provides a gentle light, and a mesmerising motion. Tim thinks it would look good placed on top of a television.
I had this exact lamp. I LOVED THIS THING! Got it when I was 7 years old and was OBSESSED with tornados and wanted to be a tornado chaser. 😆
I am 34 and it barely just broke 2 years ago. Can't find this one ANYWHERE. The new ones just don't compete or hold up
i was able to buy one off of ebay a couple of years ago and saw one there as recently as last week!
:-( I had one of these in blue and green when I was a kid. Got it about 5 or 6. 34M as of writing this. Lost mine in a house fire when I was 11. Would love to have another one.
Lyon Company made one heck of a lamp, probably their best one yet. I own one that's in a form of Rocket & its a Curious George variant.
A few of the toys we show are available from the Grand Illusions Toy Shop. But most are from Tim's toy collection, and normally they are not available in the shops any more.
I defiantly own one of these! Kept it on all night ever night! This video just made me replace the light bulb, awesome!
Tornados from the Nile.
I had one of these when I was little. Very peaceful sound and cool to watch.
Do you still have it
I'm lucky enough to own this exact model of tornado lamp. The bulb's burnt out, but the motor still works and I'm glad to have such a wonderful piece. :D
It's like watching the bathtub drain... with glitter. =)
Toto, I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore.
OH MAN. I TOTALLY HAD ONE OF THESE WHEN I WAS A KID. I can't believe I totally forgot about this. Ahhhh. If I remember right, it was shaped like a rocket ship, but it was the exact same thing. Oh man. Nostalgia wave.
I have been staying extraordinary with you since around 2013
They're also kindof noisy as the beads hit the blade at the bottom, but in a dull and muffled by the water in a sortof relaxing way, like rain on a tin roof
that is form baby Mozart
Had one of these as a kid. Ah, memories.
had one of these a loooong time ago...nostalgic.
I have one but its water has been vaporizing. I dont know how to fill it up with water.
Did you ever figure it out? I have one too and mines doing the same thing. I noticed there's a plug on top underneath the plastic dome, but I don't know how to get at it without breaking it.
@@1978tenpack I Still haven't been able to fill it up.
@@sofiagamez7007 that sucks. The water level in mine has been down for years and I tried taking the top off today by twisting it but it won't budge. I did notice that the plastic dome spins tho. Wish someone out there knew how to do it without breaking it. I can't find anything online.
@@befan7904productions Mine is made outta glass.
is it just me or the bids in the center core of the vortex and the bids near the glass walls rotate in opposite directions??
Yeah, still have one of these.
do the bids in the center and the bids near the walls rotate in opposite directions?? thanks
I still have an old one of mine that works. But the motor is starting to get loud. Any way to fix it?
mine still works fine but the light bulb is out. any ideas how to get it replaced?
Always wanted one of these. they are now discontinued and expensive as heck...
yoooo i had the same one!!!!! such a throw back
From Baby Einstein video number two! Baby Mozart musical festival!
i had one of these 10 years ago but from its years of constant use and sometimes using it over night, it just died and never worked again, mine was shaped like a rocket ship though.
I still own one of the old one of these!!!
thank god you were here to "judge" this video, else i wouldn't know what i should think of it!!
I know what I want for Christmas.
I have one but I’ve seen a quite common problem they start to lose water does anyone know how to refill them?
I came here with that same question. It looks like there is a plug at the top of the container but the top of the lamp doesn’t seem to come apart easily.
@@christielou I’m afraid I’m going to break it. Mine isn’t losing water yet but I’m hoping to find a way to fix it when it does. I also want to replace the light it’s so dim almost useless
UPLOADED ON MY BDAY!!!!
How do u change the bulb plz
Where can I get just the motor/propeller?
Had one of these
I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there is a way to replenish the water inside they are known to lose water over time. I just bought mine and i want to learn all i can about maintaining. It came without the packaging or original information. Not to mention there is virtually no information online about them that i have seen...
I have the same issue. I figure I can drill a small hole and inject the liquid in with a syringe. Problem is, I can't figure out what the liquid is. One of these years, maybe I'll find out.
*starts drooling*
Not quite sure, not the same brand as this one, some odd generic one. I still have the original packaging all it says is "Rocket Tornado Lamp" and a sticker that's stuck onto the front that says it was imported by Wal-Mart. "Elite Classics Inc." I was a very young kid when I got mine, maybe 6 or 7, I remember them being sold for a large number of years after.
Things are not manufactured forever.
You know the toys and gadgets you had as a kid? Most are not still produced.
i want one right now
anyone know how to repair these or if someone can do it without destroying it? not sure if my motor is going out or if a connection is faulty. sometimes it works fine, then the blade spins slowly and irregularly like a second hand on a clock, then back to normal again
Same issue with mine
cool
I have one :D
Ive seen this in the gadget shop down town in the uk
how do i replace a bulb in this lamp? where can I get the bulb for it?
I just bought one from ebay and took the bottom off the lightbulb was soldered in. It is an E10, 3W 6V. You can find these online. I'm not certain mine was supposed to be that way it looks a bit strange. there are 3 screws on the bottom the base comes off and if its like mine you might need to solder a new light bulb in. I'm thinking of converting mine to led because the light is has just inst sufficient...
Please help me guys, where can i get this?
7.9/10
