    Beautiful, Vicky! :) Love those grit paste letters! So much interesting texture! :) I want to be able to use my Distress inks on my layouts (I use them anyway...) but I don't like that mediums make them react! Have a spray bottle with water and some medium mixed together that I spray on top when I use Distress inks and let that dry. Makes it less reactive and gives interesting texture too! :) Hugs from Stockholm!

      @vickyp  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      W Culpepper it is not a sponsored video if this is what you mean.... but his products match so it's easy to pull everything together when you use them. Fun playtime with great results!

    • @reppeplucw
      @reppeplucw 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vicky Papaioannou - I didn't mean to imply it was a sponsored video (I know you would have stated so if it was -- and if it was, there would be nothing at all wrong with that). I know Tim Holtz has amazing products and they are fun to use. Your creativity in HOW you used them was great. I just meant to say that I love it when there's more "Vicky" in your journals than products. Thanks so much for replying. I love your videos and look forward to them every week.

      For me it's a healing process. I do art journal pages to express emotions, my hopes, dreams, fears and to say things in the journal I can't really say to anyone. This is healing and relieves so much stress. Sometimes I write on my pages Sometimes I allow the colors, the images ( stamps, collage, stencils, die cuts and even the particular mediums I use to express what I want to say, completely without words.
      And for my journals I usually use a notebook or journal with heavyweight paper ( usually watercolor,paper of some kind) so I can use wet media, dry media, gesso , texture paste, paint pens, watercolors, matte medium, fabric, glue , acrylics, pastels.......really anything I want to throw at my journal, anything that I decide will enable me to express the ideas that I have.........I don't like being limited in what I can do, what I can use in my journal by the weight of the paper!

  • @rnee1000

    Love this!!! I needed some ideas on using oxide inks and here you are with a super video! A couple questions: Do you have a hard time gluing elements over texture pastes? How do you blend inks so smoothly? I always end up with circles or curved lines from the blending tool.

    • @veryberry39
      @veryberry39 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just tried ink blending the other day, for the first time. And thank goodness it was all going behind a shaker frame, because good grief did it turn out horribly! I don't know how these guys make it look so easy, but I hope Vicky replies and lets us know!

    • @rnee1000
      @rnee1000 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I need some tips. In the end I spritzed the background with water and blotted it up to create that splotchy look and then added some stamping over it. Not too bad. I posted the layout on my facebook page.

    • @vickyp
      @vickyp  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Always remember that the paper you work on is the key! I had to do a lot of testing to end up using specific types of papers that I can find at my local store. Also I never load my tool with too much ink. Just a touch.... and build up layers slowly. Also no pressure is needed, soft circle movements and always start outside of the paper and slowly move towards the center. I get many questions on this... so I might do a 101 video when I get back from my vacation. Hugs and thank you for always having something nice to say and for your support!

    • @vickyp
      @vickyp  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh and one more thing, if you notice in the video that combination of my art journal paper and the distress oxide inks is a dream! look how easy they blend! Amazing! I find that those new inks stay at the top of my page for longer so they are easier to blend before the paper absorbs them.

    • @rnee1000
      @rnee1000 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was working in my brand new moleskine journal and thought it would be an ideal surface for the distress oxides. I think I need to do more backgrounds like this and just perfect my touch and technique. Need lots of practice. In the end it was okay with the ghosting technique and some stamping on top. Sometimes I get too hung up on the background and when it's finally done it works out fine. LOL

    Welcome back art journal, I miss your creations of art journal, great piece. Could I ask why you didn't prepare the page with gesso?

    • @vickyp
      @vickyp  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like to use gesso when I plan to add color with my acrylics. When you want to use distress inks (oxide or not) you want the absorbance of the page, otherwise the ink will wipe right off! It's the same case as with watercolors. Hope this helps!

    Ahhh Vicky I am currently boycotting Tim Holtz.My
    distress dabblers and my distress markers have all dried out.....my Tomboys that are 3 years older are still juicy!...and I bought the new paper cutter he launched at CHA and I have cut 3 pieces of paper and it is jamming already!

    • @vickyp
      @vickyp  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh so sorry this happens to you. I can totally understand your frustration! I have to admit that I love Tim's products.. there is something about them that fascinates me. I haven't used his new paper cutter. Is it by Tonic? You should contact Tonic Studios UK and let them know! They have great support , ask for a replacement! Now the markers, I store them in a box vertically and it really helps but I admit I do have a couple that dried on me. Now on the distress paints, having dried daubers was expected.... sponge and acrylics don't go together. Mine dried too... So now I treat them as normal caps that I unscrew the top. But I plan on getting the flip top caps. In any case, there are mediums that work for us and others that don't. My old time favorites are his distress inks (oxide and the good old ones). Wouldn't change them for anything else from his line!!! Hugs Zeffy and thank you for your comment!!!

  • @louannadams532
    @louannadams532 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Vicky? I have a question. I know you say you use a different blending tool for each color group, but do you use the same blending tools for your distress inks and distress oxide inks? Or do you keep the two types of inks separate? Thanks in advance 😁

  • @Mellie726
    @Mellie726 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Vicky, I've just begun watching your art journal videos and I love them. I am not familiar with art journal art, just card making and I love your card videos. Can you tell me if the paper in the art journal you use can withstand all of the mediums you use? Also do you have many art journals, and does it represent certain times of your life? for personal use, or do you use these like a resume when you apply for an art job?

    • @vickyp
      @vickyp  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I find that my moleskin sketchbook is great for the mediums I like to use. But depending on what everyone uses they might need thicker pages. I know some people use thick watercolor paper. I do have many art journals some that I share here and others that I don't. If you flip through them you can see the evolution of my work and how it changes over the years, the inspiration and the influences. It can be used as a porfolio and I like to take them with me on my live workshops. But I mainly use them just to express my creative needs, to have some "me" time and to have fun with my mediums.

    • @Mellie726
      @Mellie726 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1
