This is what I get for not ringing the bell in TH-cam. I never have. But I've been asking for a new starlight for 3 years and two months ago I would have been a happy man knowing this came true. Congrats! Better late than never! I don the starlight quantum, I posit that it's the best "unchained" flanger but that's not what I love about it. This one looks so slick with the purp.
Thank you for reanimating and evolving the Starlight DLX! Now with midi and smaller size. Can it self oscillate and do some spooky sounds and I guess its an digital flanger (not a bad thing)?
Oooh. DLX owner here who modded theirs a good few years back so it now has opto-isolated tap in so I could sync it from to other stuff from a MIDI clock pedal with tap outs (or my RJM PBC)! But proper MIDI clock sounds a lot easier, won't drift and also it has 10 MIDI presets too now! Super useful. 🤔 Anything I'd miss over the DLX? I presume this is fully digital? How close are the sounds to the DLX? Will it still self oscillate a bit with no input and the regen and gate on max? (Not the end of the world if it doesn't, but that's one of my secret space noises with the DLX!) Can you turn clock sync/listen on and off with a MIDI command on the fly? Or does it always listen? Smaller is definitely nice too, although apart from my midi board, I've always made the space for the DLX! :)
By default it will take a midi clock if available. You can set it up to ignore the midi clock, but it's a global setting, not on the fly. I'm not sure how many people actually use MIDI, but I think I'll add this feature to it going forward. Truth be told the main reason I've started adding midi to pedals is because it makes testing lots of options while prototyping so much easier. Since everything needs to be digitally controlled for presets the actual cost of adding midi is minimal.
On tone my headspace for the original DLX wanted lots of noise and crazy. I finalized the design late at night listening to the modulation and feedback guitar in fascination street by the cure. For the Starlight 3 I wanted a more refinable sound. It isn't as option heavy and doesn't have all the expression pedal options. There's no envelope flanger. Many of the step LFOs are still there which was what I liked most about the DLX.
@@subdecay Yeah, it's the cool step flange modes which is why I modded my Starlight (and Prometheus) for external tap in. They just sound so good being in sync with a delay/song tempo, hence being able to "tap it" with an RJM PBC or DAD Smartclock just by changing song was so worthwhile. So this new version having MIDI clock seems a great idea. :)
@tompoynton CB are also about $400 each, though. At $199, I couldn't see this being analog and having midi functions. There's a picture of the inside posted on IG and Facebook. It's digital. Nothing against digital, but I've got a MKII on the way since they'll be hard to find now. Maybe in the future I'll compare the MKIII.
The delay line is digital. This kinda started as a starlight dlx 2 project years ago. It went back and forth between analog and digital. That's why it took so long. The infinite rise and fall settings wouldn't have been impossible in an analog flanger, but they'd have been way too complicated to fit in a small pedal.

Absolutely love everything about this demo, now I need to try one in person.
I don't know how you guys keep reinventing your designs. My old Starlight was an amazing flanger. Keep at it!
Thank you very much!
I'm a huge starlight DLX fan but always wished it had presets and/or MIDI... now I know what Santa is bringing me... Nice one Brian!
Happy Christmas!
Yay! I’m down for this!
killer!!!

Wondering if it's analog too. Got a feeling it's not.
Sounds rad. You could get lost into a tubular vortex for days with this pedal. Checked the website,,,when is it going to be released?
got the OG, the smaller form factor is tempting
So fun! Where can I find this?!
They'll be available on the 15rh.
Hooray!!!

Have some totally random Starlight/Prometheus DLX sounds from 7 years ago... th-cam.com/video/p3n1XZ9ErRs/w-d-xo.html :)

Digital? I'd be very surprised if it was analog due to the midi functions.
Chase Bliss have been disproving that for over a decade now
