Why don't you do something?

  • A common complaint John hears is that meditators, with their 'head in the clouds', are 'no earthly use'. "Why don't you DO something useful" is the challenge. In this conversation John tells of his attempts as a young man to "make the world a better place" and what it came to. For the first time we also invite questions from invited guests addressing 'mind' and 'why does realisation take so long?'

John seems to suggest that anything any one does only blocks the goodness that would exist without someone doing this work. Imagine a world where everyone thought like that. Nobody would work towards curing cancer or help fight against poverty. There would be no scientific advancement and we’d still be in the Stone Age.
I don’t doubt that John wishes to do good in the world but he doesn’t seem to have thought any of these big questions through. It worries me that so many people in the comments seem to accept what he says without questioning it in any way.

Just come as you are, sins and all. Come as little children back to your father in heaven. Just believe that Jesus paid for your sins on the cross. Believe in God's promises to save all those who believe on his Son. There is no sin so great for our Lord Jesus to not forgive. God bless.

John, your meditation is the only best thing to do according to you is because it's not really meditation, as you have answered it yourself, its like a prayer. Basically, you are saying, meditation, which is spending time with your Creator, is the best thing anyone can do, especially those who 'tries to do something'. Therefore, if you want to make a difference, spend time with Jesus/God, and by no planned effort and your soothing voice, thousands ending up trying this life-changing 'no use' meditation. Some get the bonus of eternal life too. You rock 'Treebeard'.

"There are no questions there, no doubts, no uncertainty". This fascinates me. That we have an ability to reach such a position during our existence. I'm a million miles from such clarity but what strikes me most is; what have we done to ourselves!

he's in la la land of touch with the 'real world'...like many 'guru types' who want to get into the rarified 'too spiritual' life they remove themselves from 'regular living' and sit on their 'mountain tops' looking down on others...if everyone was like John the world would be dull, lack playfulness, wildness and giggles...God is 'wild'...i am not a 'corrupt' being...he's clocked up bla bla hours in meditation...pure 'escapism'...i sound like i'm knocking him , guess i am...he sets himself up as an example of how 'others ought to be' and now way...Tollee, Papaji, Mooji, Dyer, Jung, Hillman, Thomas Moore and so many other people 'live in the real world'...this guy is 'sitting on top of a mountain'...good for him...wonderful...i trust and pray you love it there and live in the lap of peace beyond all understanding...he's escaped the everyday and decides not to 'engage' the ego and wildness and spontaneity...he come unglued standing in line at an airport counter...of course he's not going to be at an airport counter...anyone who lives in the church with those surroundings can 'easily be spiritual'...no big deal...etc.

It's ok boys, your going to go to the big sleep regardless and guess what, its nothingness. Life is amazing because our brains perceive it like this, our brain is so complex from evolution we have become so arrogant that something else is after the end, because people are scared of death?
There is not one factual piece of evidence of anything past death. Good luck, really relaxing video though!

I like these videos, keep them coming! One suggestion: please correct your aspect ratio issue..you are editing in a smaller size final output and squeezing your native footage, so the effect is everyone looks very skinny 😂

He said Meditation leaves the Scripture behind....that's oddly ironic. Be careful brother John. You may have mastered Meditation, but are clearly lacking reverence of The Word....That gives LIFE & LIFE ABUNDANTLY. Its Powerful and a Treasure trove that can easily fill 10,000 lifetimes. I will NEVER leave Scripture behind, instead I will both fall deeper into them through Meditating on them.
Like a Dance. Here I thought you were my Hero, looks like if you have the ability to drop Scripture I was wrong in my thinking. I still love your insight but demons can hide in the stillness as well, usually disguised in our own thoughts.
Meditation is for the Soul, The Scriptures are for both Spirit and Soul.

So man is corrupting the orgional perfection of creation and causing, amongst other malign influence, the dog eat dog nature of nature(15.06).How come then the predators who roamed the earth long before man.Another example of John's thinking not adding up BUT I still like him and some of his speech seems profound. He's a breath of fresh air in a trendy world.Don't have to agree with everything he says though

"Rather than me being the doer of good, it is the spirit doing the good and I am an obstacle of it". This is a very eye-opening perspective of life. Assuming the spirit is 'stillness' and 'presence', I am interpreting Mr. Butler's insight to mean that we can do good simply by 'being' instead of feeling the need to act. This may not apply to every situation but in my experience, asserting a calm demeanor and speaking/acting only when it is requested of me, seems to produce a warmer atmosphere for those persons in my presence.

I just discovered John a few days ago. He is the first person that I can really connect with as one of the most profound people since my connection with a woman that walked across the U.S. for 28 some years known as Peace Pilgrim. Am disappointed that he transitioned 9 days before my birthday last year. I would have like to have sent him a message of great appreciation for sharing his divine message from spirit.

So, if we assume that John has indeed meditated for 30'000 hours then this can be expressed as a total of 1250 days, or a little under 3 and a half years. That's absolutely incredible dedication.
