Hi Steve, we got hold of the guys from Jost and they sent back this reply, hope it answers your questions. The round lock bar tells me its either a JSK 36 CV, or a JSK 38 model fifth wheel. Historically the fifth wheel handles didn’t have the auto secondary safety latch. Once coupled, the operator had to insert a steel wedge, which was then held in place by a “dog clip”, that hung off a chain. As I said that was historically. The spring loaded secondary safety latch has been standard on JOST fifth wheels, for at least 20 years, perhaps a bit longer. For the operators information, if it is a JSK 36CV, the adjustment procedure is the same, just the location of the adjuster bolt is located on the opposite side.
