    I love the way your mind works with sewing. Practical and efficient. This totally is how my mind works when I’m creating.

    Dear Lisa, I am thrilled with how fearless you cut the fabric. Your energy is wonderful and you encouraged me to try it this way too. The Beauty lies in the imperfection. Thank you so much.

    Lisa, You will have an easier time with your sleeves if you follow the General Order of sewing a dress. 1) shoulder seams 2)neckline or placket 3) Ease the sleeve around the armhole 4)Then sew under arm seam from tip of sleeve all the way down to hem of dress

    Your dress looks wonderful. I love the clean lines and the linen fabric. I started making my own clothes when I was 11. My mother taught classes for the Singer company and she taught me to sew. I grew up using the machine she received as a gift for her 21st birthday in 1947 and I am still using it today! There is something very gratifying about working with fabric.

      Since you were 11?! Thats amazing! That is so neat about your mom! I agree it is so gratifying! I have LOVED working with fabric for many years now. :)

    I've been learning dress making etc on TH-cam lately and have made a few fitted garments at this point. this is such a lazy way of making a dress I LOVE it I need to make something for a friend who is NOT my shape so none of my pattern blocks will work this cut's out a lot of the math and measuring we'd have to do. I'd never even thought to just trace the facing or the sleeves! this is perfect! thank you so much!

    Just a little trick ,trace it on paper first then you will have it for ever and it’s easier to place and save on fabric. Love your channel .😉

      The linen will also give a little more if you cut it on the grain of the fabric. The crosswise grain will have a lot more give for your growing baby. Love your style!

    Hand's down, your's is my favourite decorating blog/TH-cam channel. Love your style and I so relate to it. I was born in the early 50's and I remember my my grandmother making clothes for us this way. She would sometimes trace an existing piece of clothing onto a piece of newspaper, tracing a little larger than the original and use some fabric that she's taken apart from a shirt or skirt, etc., or that belonged to her or my grandfather, that they didn't use anymore. Sometimes she'd get new fabric from the fabric store. I still have a gorgeous dress and satin pj's that she make me when I was a toddler. I really treasure those items. I also have a little hooded baby cape that she crocheted me.

    I have sewn for many years, but have only used patterns. I can't wait to try this. Love the style of the dress for summer. Another great tutorial! Thank you.

    I love this! I detest patterns and have kind of written off clothes making! I have made simple things that aren't fussy but never tried clothes. I'm going to give this a whirl👌🏽👌🏽

    I loved this Lisa! I can't wait to try something like this for my girls. I love sewing and creating things for my home and family the old fashioned way. Though 100 years ago sewing machines were a luxury most farm wives couldn't afford, I think it's important to carry on the handmade traditions of farmhouse living. You are inspiring!

    • @FarmhouseonBoone
      @FarmhouseonBoone  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, I agree! Something so satisfying about making things with your own two hands. Girls are the best to sew for! That's when I became really passionate about it. But now they're getting too old to wear mama made dresses and the last two babies were boys!

    So amazingly pretty. I'm imagining a beautiful boho long flowing crochet sleeveless cardigan/vest over the top for outfit #2. Something you could wear after being pregnant, as I know you don't want to spend a ton of money for clothes you would only wear a few more weeks. Your dress is just so perfect and versatile. LOVE it!!!

    What other materials would you recommend if you wanted to do this for an everyday around the house dress? Would cotton or a blend do well enough?

  • @fatimacarvalho64
    @fatimacarvalho64 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    You seem to do EVERYTHING ☺ Do you also crochet or knit? I love the way you teach and was going to start.

      I have knit, but it isn't my favorite. Haha U'm thinking about knitting a hat for the baby.

    Good idea to just make it yourself! I was looking at linen dresses for my girls before this Easter and they are so pricey. Is there any other kind of fabric you would recommend for this style of dress?

    • @jordannenichole
      @jordannenichole 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess I mean what would be the best fabric to use for a dress to wear not just experimental fabric?

    • @FarmhouseonBoone
      @FarmhouseonBoone  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I linked the exact fabric that I used in the description, but a linen/cotton blend also works great! I made a shorter version (as a tunic) with this fabric: amzn.to/2He96Yn

      I will probably hold off until next summer, when the baby is wearing more than just sleepers. Especially if its a little girl! You can bet I will have fun with that!!
