    I'm amazed this guy asked Ray if he could light a fire 🔥 without flint. Ray has used friction fire lighting about a dozen times across his shows. It's his most well known bushcraft skill.

    I hadn't heard of the Lammergeier bird Ray mentioned he'd tracked in France. Seems like it is a fascinating creature alright. It's a large bearded vulture whose diet consists almost exclusively of bone. They even bathe in sulfur springs rich with iron oxide, which colours their shoulders, necks, and chests red. Some bird!

    The interviewer couldn't be less interested.it was like asking cheri Blair to do a charity speech without paying her.
    I quite like Ray mears as he seems down to earth although I'm not interested in survival methods in South Africa what he does in the uk is relevant & interesting..bear grills is a bit American for me but I suppose he has to cater for the American bushcraft community that like knives like swords & at least 4 types of gun to go camping...yup ye all nodice I keeps me bazooka by my hammock in case I sees a rabbit invadin ma camp...& this guun is for splittin woood

    I love watching Ray Mears' programmes and have done so for years. However, when watching this video my young nephew asked, "Uncle Bertie. If Ray is always outdoors living off grubs and worms and things... Why is he so chubby?"

    • @seanb6986
      @seanb6986 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s because bushcraft isn’t supposed to be physically challenging. You are thriving off the land, not fasting for weeks on end because you do not have the knowledge to make implements to simplify the search for edibles and make conditions more tolerable. But I’m sure you knew that, and yeah, I agree with your nephew, I guess he is a bit overweight for a person that basically lives outdoors, no offense to Ray Mears.

    • @agentbertram4769
      @agentbertram4769 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Between you and me, sometimes I think that when you see Ray camping out in the wilderness, if you turn the camera through 180 degrees there will always be a McDonalds.

    • @seanb6986
      @seanb6986 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, that explains why he put on so much weight!

    • @paulfitzpatrick8470
      @paulfitzpatrick8470 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Firstly Ray doesn’t live mostly outdoors he has a house.Every meal he has doesn’t involve creating fire he has a cooker in his kitchen,sometimes maybe he phones for a takeaway not by rubbing two sticks together until he can send smoke signals to his local Chinese/Indian or whatever.Just a normal guy I think he’d agree.

    • @agentbertram4769
      @agentbertram4769 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      My nephew is 9 years old Paul. However you have just displayed two things to him. Intolerance and a lack of humour. Well done.

Who Creates and maintains the "label of EXPERT" to the masses?

    hey ray some told that you can eat wild hickory nuts is that true or will die because poisons? what all nuts are ok to eat?

    • @thanrose
      @thanrose 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some hickory nuts are excellent. Generally the big oval egg shaped with the husk still on are good. If the nuts are smaller and flatter, they may be one of the bitter species. Not poisonous at all. Nuts is too imprecise a term. And the world is too big a place. In North America and in Europe, you have walnuts, hazelnuts, chestnuts, pecans, almonds, hickories, black walnuts, and beech nuts. Pine nuts or pignoli are also edible, as are acorns. You would not want to eat horse chestnuts or nickerbeans or many other things you could find.
