First checked out on your demo 5 years ago, and come back to it every few month just to listen to it. Transitions are smooth, and the "Dream Warriors" riff always sends shivers down my spine 😎
I just ran across this as I'm thinking about a set of these for a partscaster strat. You, sir, are one helluva a guitar player. Thank you very much for the stylistically exhaustive demo and great playing. Bare Knuckle should think about hiring you . . . .
That's one of the best pickup demo's on youtube. Great versatility, tone and playing. I really enjoyed watching this.@richard fay: thank you for posting this video.
Great demo !!! Great playing !! Now that I watched that .. I’m confused to chose between the BK cobra for bridge and the SD little 59’ .. American standard fender Stratocaster (2004) mounted with TX specials that I like so much except the bridge that I would replace with something more versatile!
Thanks! Depends if you want a humbucker or not - the SD is a bucker whereas the Cobra is a single coil. So the Cobra will have more of the character of a single (even though it can do some thicker bucker-type sounds), but the SD will not have any hum (but is arguably a bit more sterile, imho) 🙂
@@debroahcain5191 Late to the party but I've seen quite a few builds from Aristides Guitars with these specs (7string with single coils). Since they are hand-made they go around $3,000 (based on the rest of the specs of course).
Cool video! I'm wondering if there's any noise when you've got a single pickup selected? Especially with gain. Can't seem to find a solid answer on this. Thanks!
Hi Chris, yes they do hum - because they are true single coils. So although they've got two blade magnets which makes them look like humbuckers, they're not (they're just single coils with blade shaped magnets). Having said that, although they're quite high output for single coils, the hum seems less than a lot of regular singles, and I think is perfectly manageable (I've had conversations with people who are convinced that they're some sort of humbucker because the hum is not bad, but as far as I know they're not, they just have a low amount of noise for a single coil). Hope that helps! :)
Thanks! The hum's not bad - obviously they're single coils so they do hum but I think they're better than other singles. The kemper that I use live has a decent noise gate and with that I don't notice any hum at all :)

Im kinda worried about these Cobra/Cobra T pickups because they seem super metal to me... almost like you may as well be using high output humbuckers. However this kind of changes my mind about it a bit, i still want my tele to sound like a tele... you know? Even with medium-high level gain in the channel.
Kyle Rohan it's still very much a single coil in terms of frequency response, because it actually has got only one coil. And the output is not that massive. You're at 260 mA, for a 10-11 K dcr
I have a powered Kemper, which has a 600w power amp built in (not tube), so live I run the power amp to a 2x12 cab and the direct outputs to the FOH. For me, the Kemper gets very close to the live feel of a tube amp. I gigged with tubes for 20 years before I got the Kemper and for me it's the only digital amp that get's close to a tube amp but with the benefit of being really light and having loads of different amp profiles so the versatility is huge! I love it.

Bought these a few months ago partly thanks to your vid. It's just dynamics and dynamics all over the place. So good.
Wow I loved the high gain section. Great demo!
Damn, that’s a nasty single coil! Love it.
damn! sounds so good!
Love the sound of those pups, but that guitar! PGM style 7 stringer. Very cool.
Thanks :)
Very nice work! Exceptional tonal range and playing.

Great demo, thanks!
Excellent and useful review, great attention to details, impressive playing... Loved your video !
yeah, awesome tones all around!
WOW This demo is amazing thank you. Is there 60 cycle hum?
Liam Tahaney there is, because they are proper single coils (so there's no hum cancelling) but it's really not bad - less than other single coils imho
Very Nice, did i hear Guthrie Goven at 3.16?
Thank you very much. How do you compare this one with Sinner pickup?
Where in world you get 7 string with single coils
Debroah Cain I built it! 😊
Richard Fay how much to build one

@@Serratus007 Awesome! You rock
perfect!! pots 250k or 500k?
250k pot :)
+Richard Fay thanks!!!
This a truly awesome demo and the pickups sound immense! How bad is the hum for high gain stuff?

+Richard Fay thanks a lot for replying mate. I thought you'd say that. I have boss gate pedal so that should sort it after I put Cobras in my strat!

Wow, that's truly versatile! Was this recorded with guitar volume at 10, or was this matched to the various types of sounds and amps used?
All these were done with the guitar volume on 10, but it does offer even more tones by rolling it back a bit :)
+Richard Fay That's good to hear! I'm really surprised to hear how different it sounds with all the different amps with the volume at 10.

ceramic magnets are stronger than alnico magnets. There’s more to a pups output than just a number.
What's the wiring for the pickups, series or parallel ? BTW real nice demo 👌👌
Thanks! Pickups were wired through a standard strat-style 5-way switch, so the in-between sounds are parallel :)
Do you prefer these to your trilogy suite set?
John Givens I really like both, but yes probably prefer these, especially the cobra bridge pickup which is definitely something special 😀
what pots and capacitors did you use?
It's a 250k pot, no caps :)
thanks a lot! Just bought myself the entire set.
I assume the Kempler is for recording for youtube or some other. How do they sound through a tube amp?
