So, is eBay responsible for facilitating the sale of stolen goods? Is Amazon responsible for facilitating the sale of fake / counterfeit goods, or unsafe products? Seems like a slippery slope. Seems more reasonable that a legal framework should be created for online services to monitor and handle such activity, but it's going too far to hold the companies directly accountable, or their executives directly accountable. Think about how many crimes are arranged using communication technology like mobile phone service. Are the phone companies responsibly for any crimes that are facilitated by communicating through their services?
I do feel that Amazon is responsible for the sale of counterfeit products on their platform. However only in the civil sense not the criminally.

I think a large part of the problem is that people are desperate to virtue signal. The intent isn't to actually solve any problems, but to virtue signal. And how does it one virtue signal? By making a show of pursuing "villains". So they pursue as many "villains" as possible to score as many virtue points as possible. And that means you need to have as many "villains" as possible. At that means villifying as many people and entities as possible whether they have anything to do with it or any rational culpability at all.
