My only recourse was taking a recorder and holding it up against the speaker of the TV while I let the music play

Dude, that part in this song had me smiling big and tapping along so hard. This is literally my favorite song from the Genesis/Mega Drive and 8B made it even better. Mind blowing.

Man games from back then had far better music cause due to hardware limitations composers had no choice but to be creative. Same can apply to the water level in donkey Kong Country, or this song from Contra Hard Corps that could be remixed into Techno without the dubstep.

Yes, as Ymesketek said, "Transparent Obstacle" is amazing. "Adventures of Iron" is also good but it doesn't have the "is this really from the Mega Drive...?" quality of Transparent Obstacle.
