So you’re saying I’m not humble now eh? 🤔 😉, thanks man. I actually go back and watch some of these myself. Fantastic way for me to go back in time. Especially a lovely way to my dog that has since past. It’s also fun to see the adventures my wife and I took before we had a family. Even my son gets a kick out of watching our camping video. Thank you very much for all your kind words and support. I truly appreciate it.
No not at all! Love your videos! Love what you’re doing. I myself looking back at fishing see growth. I just love these grassroots videos. It’s like flipping through your phone and seeing you kids photo. You feel me?
I was just messin. No doubt man. Oh I get it. Trust me I get it. As I said I rewatch some of the old stuff all the time. I actually miss fishing with Neal! Who I originally started fishing on the channel with. When I went back to catch my Musky I did get together with him to fish for a couple days. Can’t wait to go back and fish with him again.
Your comment at 15:48 "huge head" is great if you also have a huge body but that trout, while still very nice, has a thin body and a big head which pretty much means he isn't adding weight to his body as his head grows.
That could mean there is not adequate nymph life although if you life up a bunch of water weeds it is literally full of scud. Typically though big browns like to eat minnows too and there just may not be enough minnow life there. I chase Delaware fish preferably with dry flies to rising trout but I also pursue them very early in the mornings, in the summer, when there is mist on the water and use #1 Gray over white Clousers and have caught many 21" - 23" browns. My personal best was 27" back in 2002.
Matt Troutman I just think these guys are weaker fish. So many in there battling for food. I have caught many in that same pool that are nice and FAT! Nothing like catching fish on the rise with a dry! Best part of fly fishing!
Thanks for the kind words Joe! That's awesome! Well you're in a GREAT place for it! You on FB? Hit me up on the W4F fan page and I will give you some fantastic spots to check out up there!
***** Yeah, I liked your page a while back actually. Sounds good. I'll hit you up as well. I have a spot up north I love to trout fish, I've never fly fished it though, just in-line spinners on a spinning reel, but it's a beautiful spot with some nice trout.
Thanks Jeff! Yeah it's definitely NOT easy and can be quite a pain in the ass at times. I do love fly fishing and sharing my experiences as well as knowledge to help others have a better and more successful time on the stream. Thank you for your appreciation and tight lines.
Ken, another good video. Very informative. Two more questions if you don't mind. First, what weight and length rod were you using here? Secondly, how do you like the retractable net holder? I am in the market for my first wading net and have been debating between the retractable leash and the magnetic style net holder/ lanyard. Again thanks for the education and enjoyable videos you are providing.
Here I was using a 9ft 5wt I could of EASILY got away with using a 3wt or 4wt though. It all depends on what you're targeting. If it's nothing but trout. I think 4wt is the way to go. If it's smaller streams for smaller trout than I would go with 3wt. The Orvis Gear Keeper is the way to go in my opinion. Trust me when walking through wooded areas or even along side of the bank you net gets caught up in things. Magnetic style would come undone all the time. I have never had any problems with my retractor. Here is a review on the product th-cam.com/video/eQbjtqsFeTk/w-d-xo.html As for nets.... I would make sure to get a rubber net or a knotless mess net.
***** Thanks again Ken. More money going out the door. :) The net and retractor are a "for sure" and I am considering the purchase of a 4W for trout and use my current 6W for smallmouth. Have a very Merry Christmas and a terrific 2015!
HAHA... unfortunately your spending has just begun! It is a endless journey as well. Happy Holidays to you as well! Hopefully santa will bring you some nice fly fishing gear! ;-)
Ken- yeah that makes sense. For some reason I assumed that chalk stream was just a generic term for spring creeks or streams whose geomorphology primarily consists of limestone.
+Joshua Hubbell - Yeah the term they use for that is limestoner. Which I'm sure you have heard before being that you fish in PA. Lucky for us they are loaded with them.
Thank you for the compliment. These were all taken with my iPhone actually. Personally I think it's all about the camera angle and composition. If you would like to see some of my other photos please check out my Instagram instagram.com/wish4fishtv
I wet my hands, cradle them gently and release them rather quickly with care. I don't muscle grip them, I don't take photos of them on the grass or rocks with my reel in the background, I don't gill grip or hold them vertically. I'm hardly the problem on the stream...
I feel ya man, u got some good vids and i was wondering if youve ever had the chance to fish kettle creek in north central pa? Id like to see ya make a video on fishing tactics and flies used if you ever get the chance to. Idk what kind of drive you would be in for to get to kettle but think it would be a good edition to your series since you seem to fish alot of Pa streams.
I haven't been up to Northern PA yet. Although we did try to plan a trip up there toward the end of the season last year near Slate Run but we decided to go to State College instead. The camping spots were closed for the season already. Yeah... That's also not a close drive. I am coming for S.Jersey so that's quite a hike. I do want to make it up there sometime.
+Ken Martin - Yes you can drive up to the site. It's only about a 50yard walk in. So it's just enough that you can't see other people or cars from you site.

I fish Spring Creek quite a few times every season all the way up at the Benner Springs hatchery down to Bellefonte and just can't place where you are in the opening fishing scene below the bridge where you get that 18" brown. Would you be willing to give me an idea of where that footage was taken?
Not many chalk streams in the US (if any at all). Chalk streams are primarily in England. Most all PA streams are limestone spring creeks. Thanks Clark. Yeah, Fall is one of my favs. By the way... That set up is the same set up for shallow riffle. Except for the weight located there I would put a stick-on tab indicator.
oh ok..thanks..cairns pool where u were fishing on the bkill ive been fishing since i was 8 yrs old..i recognized it immediatly..great memories of every inch of that river i know like the back of my hand..i still fish it alot..if u head downriver to the horton bridge that would be a great spot to video..more trout there and LOTS of really big bows that have worked there way into the system from the delaware river..when i was kid u never heard of a rainbow caught on the bkill..now its like a 50/50 ratio.
Thank you for your nice reply! Your into fly fishing as a business....to make a profit. You are a young man and successful at what you do! Always liked what Ernest Scheibert wrote..I love fly fishing for trout because trout live in beautiful places ....... I am thankful for the driftless area.
Fly fishing definitely takes you to beautiful places, physically and mentally. I didn't get into fly fishing to make a profit or is that the reason that I love the sport. Just happened to turn out that way.
Ken, In your videos you mention Fletchers Flies often and I was wondering if they have a go-to-on-line site to actually price and purchase their product ? I looked them up and could not actually find this information. Maybe you can give some info. Thank You
+Ken Martin - For future reference if I mention a product in a video I usually put the link in the description. Fletchers Flies can be purchased on his website www.etsy.com/shop/fletchersflies Unfortunately he is taking a break at the moment. Keep your eye on his site because I'm sure he will be back tying soon.
Ken, I was wondering what were you looking for when you set the hook? I was watching your bobber and I couldn't notice any movement. This is my biggest problem when nymphing, is detecting strikes and how to set the hook without spooking fish if it isn't a strike.
+Jacob Stanley - If you take a look again you can definitely see the strike. For instance the 2nd fish at 7:05min you can see the indicator slightly move upstream. Basically you are looking for any movement. A pause, dunk, side to side, up stream or downstream. Any movement you set the hook. If you watch the 3rd catch at 8:04, the indicator ticks 3x. Since nymphing is all about ticking bottom every once and a while, detecting ticking the bottom vs a strike is going to be difficult no matter what. Let alone a trout can spit your nymph without you ever knowing it took your fly. Maybe you might wanna try straight line nymphing or Euro nymphing. I know that nymphing legend Joe Humphreys doesn't use a indicator and just sets the hook when he feels that there should be a trout in that spot. As far as setting the hook. You don't have to yank on it. Just a raise of the rod tip and that will do the trick. You should spook the fish by setting the hook. If they are that spooky then I'm sure they will be out of there long before you even set the hook.
Enjoying ALL your videos! Sorry for the short direct earlier message in regards to your input for a campsite around the Beaverkill River region in your video after Labor Day weekend. Russell Brook campsite seems to be a good option for your needs. I live in Westchester County NY and have a cabin ON the Beaverkill 2 hours away. Fished yesterday from 8 - 12, one 14.5 inch rainbow, river flow perfect @ 400 cfs, water temp? Left my gauge at home for the local rivers. Air temp 38 degrees @ 8am. PM fishing a lot better but could not stay. With the warm weather all this week fishing should pick up quite a bit! Heading up again Saturday for the day only, if your ever interested in hooking up let me know. I'm on a private stretch of the river with some awesome fishing, I'm new to the Fly fishing...., been fishing with spinners, worms, and jerk baits for 40 years. Fish the Pepacton Reservoir quite a bit as well. I also suggest that you need to look into the West Branch, East Branch, and main stem of the Delaware. I started fishing these last season for the first time now that my daughters are older and have lost interest in the great outdoors! (UGH, I tried my hardest) Have caught some 20 inch plus Rainbows and Browns. Also catch 20 inch plus browns on the Beaverkill every year but they weigh 2.5 lbs compared to the 4 plus pounds from the Delaware. I know you travel a great distance from the southern Jersey area, but the extra 20 minutes to the East Branch, 30 minutes to Hancock (Delaware main stem) and 45 minutes to the West Branch are well worth the extra time for some MONSTER BROWNS AND RAINBOWS. Looking forward to more awesome videos, keep it up! Check out Jim MIsiura videos in PA you might be interested in these rivers?
Frank Abbatantono - No problem... I appreciate the heads up. I will definitely keep that in mind in the end of the season. I was actually just on the BK on Sat! Missed 4 fish that shook me off! Couple big boys. Landed a nice 16in Bow and 14in Brown though. You on FB or IG? Yeah it was a bit too cold for the morning bite up there but it did get good by the end of the day. In the morning the water was reading 40 degrees. I want to check out the WB and EB of the Delaware for sure. Just read that it wasn't that good right now so we didn't hit it up. Cabin on the river!? That's awesome! Fantastic place! One of my favorite on the east coast for sure. I will have to take you up on that offer sometime! Thanks! I was actually thinking of heading out this weekend. Haven't decided where yet.
***** Not a big fan of all these social media networks. On computers for half the day at work, have my face time and email and that's enough for now, (perhaps soon) …. 24 hours in a day is no longer enough time for all my daily activities. Anyway, when your heading up to the BK let me know and well try and hook. Are you posting the BK video from Saturday? Did you catch them on streamers or nymphs? Caught my rainbow on a Griffith's gnat, 20 inch dropper with a tungsten Hares ear.
I hear ya. You should really check out Instagram. Really great fishing community there. Plus no bs.. just great pics of fish! ;-) I will message you and we can exchange email. I caught both the Bow and Brown on a American beadhead Pheasant Tail s16. I only caught 2 fish and I got a new camera and instead of recording video I recorded interval recording. So not much to edit. I might just add it to the video from this weekend.
You should re-watch the video.... Plus I know that hole very well. The movement you mentioned I believe was me tapping the bottom. (it could of been a take) Although the hook set that I chose was a much clearer take than what first saw.
love your videos, fly fishing is obviously a true passion of yours! I am wondering where you hail from, as I have seen you reference west branch and beaverkill, both of which are very close to my area, although I usually fish the upper reaches of neversink for the sake of saving myself a longer car ride... also wondering if you guide or have considered guiding, I'm sure you can do it!
+Scott Sinnott - Thanks for the kind words Scott. I have guided before a couple of times but I have a full time job and running Wish4Fish is a lot of hours on top of that. I actually live in Atlantic City so it's quite the hike to most of the spots I fish.
Yeah that is very far down south it just proves the lengths we go through to catch fish! My buddy said he saw your booth at the fly fishing show this past winter I couldn't make it unfortunately but I will definitely be there next year I'll come and say hello, keep up the good work!
+Scott Sinnott - No doubt.. I have put over 107k on my car in just 2.5 years! I'll definitely be at the next show. Come by and say hello! Maybe I'll run into you on the stream. Take care and tight lines.
Hi Ken, I thoroughly enjoy your videos and am learning a lot from you. I live several miles from Spring Creek and have fly fished these waters (have yet to catch a fish) often. I am obviously a novice. After convincing myself there are no fish in these waters I realize I have so much more to learn. One small favor I might ask would be to spend a tad more time talking about your fly selection and rigging. That's been really helpful for me. Keep up the excitement and I appreciate your respect for the fish!
+Larry Ragan - Thanks for the kind words and support. Oh, there are plenty of fish in SC for sure! I would go into a little more detail although it would be redundant to mention it in every video. I have mentioned my set up in several of my videos. Even made a video specifically about the "Drop Shot" set up. The thing about mentioning the fly selection is that can be a bit tricky! For instance one fly that worked for me on a specific stream at a specific time of day and time of year will not work for everyone. Even on the same stream. That's the whole thing about fly fishing. You gotta try you best to "match the hatch." Another good thing to know is a hatch chart. Which is what bug activity is happening on your water during a certain time of year. The set up goes the same way. I specific set up will not work for everyone. That all depends on what I'm using, how deep the water is, how fast the water is and how I would like to fish them. Are you on Facebook? Much easier to go back and forth. I would be more than happy to help you further. Hit me up on there. Facebook.com/Wish4Fish
Ken, If you dont mind me asking, what type of soft hackle were you using. And great video... just went up to spring this weekend and did really well on a zebra midge. Its really a great fishery all year round!
+TrailBlazer Outdoors - Just a regular soft hackle fly. I was using one from Fletchers Flies. He is currently on a break but you can contact him on via "Contact Shop Owner" tab and tell him that you talked to me and I referred you to him about the soft hackle that I was using. www.etsy.com/shop/fletchersflies As for Spring... Any spring creek or tailwater is good for year round fishing because their water temps stay around the same all year. Glad that you were successful with the Zebra Midge. It's definitely a great fly to have in the box.
You got it. I have already subscribed and have seen many of your videos. Thanks for making them, as well as educating us as you share your love for fly fishing.
Ken, I really enjoy all your videos, however I'm particularly fond of the ones you do from the State College area, as those are my favorite streams. And of those, Spring is probably my #1 just based upon its size and easy access. Many o' class was missed in my college days to fish there, however at the time, that was with spinning gear. I took up fly fishing about 2 years ago. I'm learning everyday. Headed up to Spring Creek tomorrow for the weekend. I really enjoy the style of fishing you are shown doing here with the thingamabobber/tandem rig in medium/slower pools. One question if you don't mind me asking. Is that the 1/2" (small) or 3/4" (medium) size thingamabobber? I think they work great in the pools because the fish are deeper and the splash doesn't spook them as opposed to in the riffles I read you use the sticky tab indicators and that makes a lot of sense because they are quieter on the water. Anyway, keep up the great videos and I sent you a friend request on facebook. Ryan Mitchell
+Ryan Mitchell - Yeah... Centre County is definitely one of my favorite areas for sure. So many top notch streams around that area. I mostly use the tabs unless I am using a lot of weight. (or 2 Tunghead beads) Then the tabs are useless. I then use the 3/4in thingamabobber. I hardly spook fish with the line or indicator. If the fish are that spooky most likely you're gonna spook them way before your line hits the water. Foot steps, shadows or false cast movement are gonna spook the fish most likely before the indicator will have a chance to.
Hi ken, I just want to let you know that I do enjoy your videos, I even share them a lot on my Website www.flyfishinggod.com and facebook page. I do however have a question about this one ... there was a nice Trout that you had caught that had fishline wrapped around and cutting into him, now I appreciate that you had taken and cut the line off this precious Trout but I watched you throw it to the side. I am truly hoping that you did pick it up and not leave it in the grass among the shoreline! You did din't you .... pick it up and get rid of it , right???
+Wish4Fish Now that is really good to know ... I honestly believed that you would have, but I really needed to hear it from you!! Thanks so much and keep these great videos coming!!
+Wish4Fish aww.. man Im really glad you cleared that up i literally almost shat myself when you threw that line to the side... now I can sleep easily tonight.
Haha... why would I even go through the trouble of taking the line off if I was gonna do a bone head move like that? I'm sure you can hear the concern in my voice for the trouts safety. Just wanted to deal with the release as quick as possible so I threw it to the side temporarily.
Hi Ken...not to be mean but your fly fishing videos rub me the wrong way.....especially Beaver Creek St Park........you seem to trivialize the sport and it makes me nervous.....Happy New Year and I'm more the videos coming out of England....no music a more relaxed take...You make fly fishing appear like a bass tournament
I sincerely like these older videos. humble days

Plus no bs.. just great pics of fish! ;-)
I will message you and we can exchange email.
I caught both the Bow and Brown on a American beadhead Pheasant Tail s16.
I only caught 2 fish and I got a new camera and instead of recording video I recorded interval recording. So not much to edit. I might just add it to the video from this weekend.
clearly at 7;56 the fish took ur fly..took u 20 seconds to strike..were u not looking at ur indy?
Ken,
If you dont mind me asking, what type of soft hackle were you using.

As for Spring... Any spring creek or tailwater is good for year round fishing because their water temps stay around the same all year. Glad that you were successful with the Zebra Midge. It's definitely a great fly to have in the box.
I like what I see. I'm getting Hooked.
keep em coming.
Thanks Lone58. If that's the case please do check out my other videos. I am constantly uploading new videos so please do subscribe as well.
You got it. I have already subscribed and have seen many of your videos. Thanks for making them, as well as educating us as you share your love for fly fishing.
Thanks for the kind words and your support! That's exactly what it's all about. Possibly helping other catch more fish!
Every rim you land a fish it sounds like porn
It is fish porn....
Thanks for the kind words and support +FlyFishingGod.com. Haha... Actually, yes I did pick up the line. Thanks a lot for sharing our videos.
Different strokes for different folks Kenneth. Best part of TH-cam is no one makes you watch them. Just stick to your videos out of England.
