Travis, just one question and you may have responded to it already. How do you make the patterns longer. I have ordered some before and they come in two pieces on one page and you tape them together with the dotted line, that way you get a 14" long sign .

Hey Travis, dumb question, don't you end up with a bunch of drop outs if you scroll as shown? ie dot over I, comma etc. Or is the intent that it would be glued to a substrate?

I really appreciate the tutorial but I have a question about saving the final design. Whenever I went to save what I had done, it only saved the part that was over the "piece of paper" that is there when you first open the program.. What did I do wrong?
+Charles Dearing It depends on what you're saving. If you're saving the SVG (the Inkscape file), it will save everything. If you're saving it as a PDF or printing, it will only do what's on the piece of paper. If you're exporting as a PNG, you have the choice of saving just the page (just the paper), the drawing (anything that has been drawn), or the selection (the items you have selected). I hope this helps.

With Inkscape 1.1, these techniques don't work anymore. For example, selecting the two objects and then PATH | DIFFERENCE doesn't work. Thanks anyway for the nice tutorial.
Yah. I don't like how they do things now. It will take a few more steps now with 1.1+. Basically what you're trying to do is change it from a text object to a single vector object. Select your text. Go to Path>Object to Path. Ungroup. Combine. Then try it.
