It is like Rafi coming through a time warp and SLAPPING the India of today. Yesudas does the best cover I've seen. He has the range and his own... texture, but this one by Rafi is near impossible to match. The flexibility and lightness of his voice as well as the power with that insane range is. This is a very very noteworthy cover. The Rafi part is an old DD recording. DD used to do good stuff once.

It makes me shiver to see Rafi performing the work of that Muslim Trinity (Rafi-Naushad-Shakeel) of the best devout Hindu music in cinema all time, singing a song addressed to Bhagwan full of heartbreak. It is like Rafi coming through a time warp and SLAPPING the India of today.
Yesudas does the best cover I've seen. He has the range and his own... texture, but this one by Rafi is near impossible to match. The flexibility and lightness of his voice as well as the power with that insane range is. This is a very very noteworthy cover.

That the trinity associated with the song are of muslim faith is a matter of great pride to all Indians, of whatever faith, or no faith at all. While there may be occasional communal incidents here and there, one has to admit that overall, India has stood by its secular ideals.
That said, the song addresses no particular deity of any faith. Just the Gid almighty, even though in the film Baiju Bawra, it is sung, with the implication of a God of Hindu faith.
The other famous bhajan by Rafi, 'man tarpath hari darshan ko aaj' does indeed address 'Hari'; and that is as impressive song as this one.
