One thing I love about character teams in anime fighting games is how some of them can fuck up the canon. Take the very first one in this video; both Ace and Sabo have the same Devil Fruit and can be on a team at the same time, despite the fact that no two people can have the same Devil Fruit power at once.
Might I give a suggestion for how you do the Team Appeal Events? Say you start off with Pre and Post Timeskip Luffy, and have him team up with Whitebeard, then go down to all the others he had a dialogue against, and so on and so forth for the rest. Thoughts?
