I rent that exact machine every winter for a month for doing invasive removals in our parks, cost just under 12k for the month but worth every penny. Mulched 125 acres this winter with it during that time of heavy autumn olive and honeysuckle growth, those machines are amazing

Great information and this is exactly what most of us are doing. Many properties don't have 10 acres of old pasture or easily tillable land. We are carving out irregular shaped plots in the woods. Thanks for posting!

So Randy I’ve been told not to pile the debris along the sides of a corridor but to leave it open as much as possible so the deer don’t feel trapped ... can’t tell, did you guys more or less do that? Nice work.

The the seed have a issue if plant on top of the wood chips? My area was thick and has a ton of wood chips on it.

thats a lot of money, 12K... for 360 lbs of deer (assuming 3 deer @ 120 pounds each._ To me it would make sense for everyone to raise deer like a beef 'farm'.

Interesting design Randy. How close to the road is that food plot? Did you use a Screen for better deer and driving security from the road?

The closest point was about 50 yards from the road. We dropped several trees between the road and the food to open the canopy for thicker regen

How do you keep the stumps from sprouting back up?

Steve, Most are poplar so they don't stump sprout and since all the stumps are now at ground level, even maple will not sprout as easily. But even if a few did it's no big deal

Root sprouts coming up in the woods where there's no disturbance is different from a food plot that once in a while is getting sprayed, mowed, harrowed and run over with an ATV
