    == About Us ==
We’re Matt & Nat, a part-time, non-remote travel couple based out of Nashville, TN. In 2021 we visited all 50 US states & documented our entire journey on our blog & here on TH-cam! After spending a full year focused on such a defined goal, 2022 left us feeling a little lost & wondering "What's next?". We continued traveling & creating vlogs but always with the "What's next?" question lingering. During one of our trips, we came across the book “1,000 Places to See Before You Die” & were immediately drawn in by it & knew that it had to be a part of our adventures. So, in January 2023 we officially launched our “1,000 Places To See Before You Die” series where we’ve set out to see as many of the “1,000 Places To See Before You Die”… before we die!
We hope you’ll join us on the adventure & find some adventures of your own along the way! And remember... It’s better to see something once (even if only for a moment) than to hear about it a thousand times.

I have just got off the MSC World Europa, western Med cruise (Barcelona to Malta) and it was fabulous. Not a single complaint. If something didnt work in the cabin, the steward was on it immediately. Good communication between staff and passengers. The food and entertainment was fantastic. I cant wait for my next MSC cruise. I agree, the Balcony/Stateroom is the only way to go.

MSC is an Italian cruise line so don’t expect an American experience. Announcements are in multiple languages, entertainment needs to cross language barriers so that’s an adjustment. A few Europeans I spoke to were ok with warm rather than hot food. I notice the difference from US style cruise lines and I like both. Europeans can be rude, do not queue, push in, it is what it is. I’ve just returned from a 28 night MSC cruise and it was great. People got on and off at different ports. I’ve also cruised the Med with MSC and enjoyed it. We don’t tip in Aus and NZ so MSC waived gratuities for all without fuss unless we wanted to pay. US cruise lines will do so too but it’s a drama.

We agree with your comments, it is a different experience. We have been on 4 MSC cruise ships out of Florida, admittedly paid for the Yacht Club experience on all. We love it, but it's not for everyone. especially those who have no international experience.

You're generalising Europeans into one single group. Europe is a whole continent, and people vary massively depending on the region and the country. For example Northern Europeans in particular are generally polite and are very good in queues, much better than the Americans.

We just got back from our MSC cruise and I have to say there are many things that you mentioned that sounded very familiar - especially the lack of activities on at sea days. However, we had a phenomenal time on board. Everyone, and I do mean literally everyone, on the ship was incredibly kind, friendly and helpful. Granted, I’ve never been on another cruise so, I don’t have anything to compare this cruise to, but we overall had an amazing experience and I would definitely cruise with MSC again.

As a veteran of 82 cruises I found your review unfair. You should check boarding times on departing and not your App. You should also stay away from super enormous ships which always crowded and noisy. Stick with American cruise lines. As for cabin problems it is a new ship. Call the cabin attendant or front desk and report problems. Bring adapters with you. Lastly, arrive at least one day before cruise starts because of jet lag. From what you say I would stay away from the big Royal Caribbean ships. 53:24

@@cazgreene3055 Probably. When I was younger I put too much salt on food. Very different now. If I cook for others I put less rather than more as that suits most tastes. I have salt and pepper on the table so they can always add more.
In the US so much processed food is full of this corn syrup and many additives. The bread tastes like cake I have been told.
Going on a European line if used to American cruise lines of course you are going to taste a difference if used to food from the US. your palate would be so used to high seasoning and sweetness. Myself I would likely not go on a US ship as food is a big part of it and I doubt to my taste. I might live on salads, not a bad thing as I love a decent salad, as long as could add my own seasoning.

We have sailed a few MSC (out of a total of about 13 cruises in the last 8 years) and are on the World Europa this Friday around the Mediterranean.
A couple of things to note is that MSC changes its entertainment approach depending on the expected nationalities of the guests so a UK one is more British, US more American etc so Med is very Italian focused. Also because kids travel free on MSC during children school holidays they are packed solid. MSC deals are much cheaper than elsewhere so the food won’t be Azamara etc standard or even NCL.
They also have one of the cheapest drinks packages going so they are a lot cheaper all in than RCCL for example - a lot cheaper. Our last RCCL cruise was disappointing as the food standard had dropped a lot we felt.

A great video! Thanks. We took an MSC cruise about 16 years ago, on the Musica, from Barcelona, return, for 10 nights. It was a New Year’s cruise that docked in Malaga, where my brother lived and the itinerary was chosen for that purpose. There were 1200 Italian, 800 German, a few French, Russian and 50 English-speaking passengers. The ship was beautiful, the itinerary fabulous, and the cruise horrendous. The crew was lovely (except for the concierge desk) and incredibly unhappy. Many jumped ship at the end of the cruise, including the assistant cruise director! We had to surrender our passports, unexpectedly, at the beginning of the cruise - a minion threw ours into an open drawer at the front desk, no receipt. I wondered if we would ever see them again. We were made to feel like reprobates for asking for wash clothes (“You Americans are ALWAYS asking for washclothes”, we Canadians were told.). The food was forgettable, but our fellow passengers beyond rude, butting into the buffet lines, stealing chairs, yelling, even taking our bus seats between stops on excursions after moving our stuff to less desirable seats. We were befriended by the senior American Armed Forces personnel spending the holidays with their families, and they were wonderful. The New Year’s party, spent anchored in the Bay of Gibraltar, was a drunk fest on the main deck. The next morning, we witnessed the crew shovelling hundreds of broken glasses into the sea. The butting-in in the buffet lines was so out of control, one of our American friends discovered that, if he put his breakfast or lunch knife under his plate with the blade exposed, he could actually make it through the line relatively unimpeded. Communication was terrible. English speakers were treated with contempt by the entertainment crew. We were put on shore excursions with French, German and assorted speakers, but we all felt our “talks” were given short shrift. It became something of a joke. Luckily, we are experienced cruisers, and educate ourselves before embarking, so knew what to expect - except for the camel ride on Arrecife…Then, at the end of the cruise, as I supected, we were asked for the “receipt” we were NOT given before we could retrieve our passports. That did not go over well. It seems from your video, things have not much improved. Of our 30+ cruises, pre-COVID, our experience on MSC was surpassed for awfulness by only one, on Seabourn. Those are two cruise lines, on quite different spots on the spectrum, we recommend avoiding.

I agree 100 per cent with you. Few Americans and few English speaking cruisers. Msc is nàsty. Pushing, screaming, yelling people. The Italians were worse. Just awful. I have a cane and was pushed aside when elevator door opened. Could wait 1 minute. At the buffet. Pushing, shoving, line cutting. When carrying my tray, people walked so close to me that I thought I was going to drop. I finally used my cane as revenge. Try to push me aside, I put my cane out to trip. I left cruise after 3 days..9 day cruise. I had enough.i am a retired flight attendant and I've had enough of bs when flying, I don't need it now. No more msc

The daughters were seated beside us. Thet seemed fascinated by us, maybe because we were engaged with each other. Our daughter started performing little tricks for them, like flipping a coin, and balancing a spoon on her nose. I showed them I could turn my fingers into a galloping horse. My husband could make a coin disappear. Not a word was spoken, but the little girls were delighted. The next evening, their parents were seated beside us, intentionally keeping their children away from our intemperate (?) influence. Thanks for being so direct and telling all. I doubt I would take an MSC cruise because they seem so frantic and cattle herdish. I'll take something more laid back if it might be more expensive. They have to cut corners somewhere, that probably explains the lack of facilities, entertainment and blandish food.

We have been on 7 MSC cruises (Caribbean/Mexico) and really enjoyed them all. The thermal spa on Seaside was fabulous. When we went their prices were just so much more affordable than other cruise lines that it was a no-brainer. The delay with getting off at ports may not have been their fault. They can't let anyone off until they are cleared by the port authority there. This was communicated to us when we sailed with them. But the fact that the time was wrong on the app was a huge mistake on their part. Yikes!

We JUST got off the Grandiosa!
Our experience was similar to yours… Terrible communication, emails, apps and receipts all contradicting each other before we left.
We had the Aurea experience, which saved our vacation. We had a private sun deck and choose when we ate.
Our trip was about taking our teenage boys travelling that wouldn’t kill me with logistics. The cruise served that purpose!
I don’t think I’d take another cruise, we are not cruisers.
A great summary of the MSC experience.

I cruised with MSC twice. I enjoyed it, especially the first one with Meraviglia. Besides the incidence with the app time, the other little inconveniences, they wouldn't have bothered me too much, almost at all. But I liked the fact that you two presented very detailed the pros and the cons, but I would never say: don't ever cruise with MSC, because it's not fair. I cruised also with Carnival, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian, but MSC Meraviglia was one of the best ones, in my opinion. 😊 Can't wait to see where you'll cruise in the future!

We loved our cruise on MSC, cause we like the differences!
Everything you experienced on this cruise, could have happened on any other cruiseline!
When you put your vaction into someone's hands you gota expect things may not go your way, or the way you desire!
MSC should have appologized for the comments about leaving you, but then you should have gone to customer service immediately to get it!
The ships clearance upon entering port to let passengers off is up to the port, not the ship, but they should have told you there were delays!
The reason the MSC cruises in America are different than the MSC cruises in the Med is because you're getting a different experience! All the Med cruises are mostly the same, cause all the companies in the Med are taking care of mostly European cruisers who expect things differently than American cruisers!

We are with you on this, took a caribbean cruise with MSC back when they first started sailing out of FL, think it was around 2015, got a killer deal on an 8 day cruise with a balcony upgrade and it was the first cruise we did not enjoy. ship was too crowded, food was bland, service was good though. Even though with a big discount we decided that our first MSC cruise, would also be our last, we will stick with Princess, we like them much better. One difference with us is that we determined that the balcony was a waste, spent almost no time out on it, if offered a free upgrade on cruises in the future we would take one, but we would not actually pay extra to have a balcony.

Thank you for your honest review - great video xx I did an MSC virtuosa cruise in march in northern Europe. The ship is only two years old and was absolutely beautiful, so new and sparkles everywhere. The 7day cruise I was on , day four was when dad and I had a sickness bug for the next three days . I think it was the temperature of the food. Lukewarm at best.... So unfortunately we didn't get to visit Rotterdam (main point of the cruise) and other issues were the upselling, the amount of people we had (5100) it was chaos at breakfast...
We had the same cabin as you had and that was the best part of my holiday, waking up with a coffee and sitting on the balcony - absolutely blissful....

Thanks for watching!🥰 Oh gosh... That sounds awful! So sorry y'all had such a bad experience! Makes ours look not so bad! Lol... And yesss... the constant upselling was so annoying... the chaos in the buffet at breakfast! Glad we weren't alone in our experience with MSC. And we couldn't agree more... The balcony was the saving grace for our experience on the ship. It was such an amazing way to start and end each day!

Thank you for posting your MSC experience. We are looking at MSC and have a few questions. 1) It looks like you were the only passengers who almost missed the ship. Were there additional passengers, who depended on the app, to arrive late as well? 2) Did the late gangway deployment happen multiple times or just once? 3) Regarding your ballet shoes, we like to travel very lightly as well. Did MSC specifically require "closed toed sneakers" or were you hoping they would let you participate in the activity with ballet shoes that did not fall off your feet? Any information you could provide will be very much appreciated. Thank you and safe travels.

My first time watching their videos. My impression is don’t be upset if your shoes don’t meet their requirements. Safety rules there for a reason. That’s on you, not them. Second…. I wasn’t impressed by the smiley smiley cutesy crap. She’s trying too hard and he isn’t much better. Both think they’re cute as pie. Oh, and quit chewing with your mouth open, Nat.
Emma Cruises is much better imo. She gives an honest review without the ….. extras.

We've taken 4 msc cruises out of Miami & swore we'd never ever use anyone EXCEPT MSC because our 4 separate 7 night cruises were absolutely fabulous! I'm wondering if the different is just country of origin. I've traveled all over the world & know the different standards expected make difference. We're taking our 1st Norwegian out of Miami in 2 weeks & nervous we won't like it. And honestly the ONLY reason we're not using msc is because Norwegian was free for us so we figured why not? 🤷🏻‍♀️ so I'd say give them a shot stateside & you'll be pleased.
As far as the balcony is concerned, I never have & never will cruise without one. It's a total game changer! We always order a bottle of bubbly for embarkation day & drink it as the ship leaves port on the balcony before getting ready for dinner.
What other cruise lines have yall tried to compare to msc? We've loved them so much I refuse to spend money on another in fear we won't like it as much. But sounds like the Mediterranean idea on msc might not be as good. I do know, most countries I've been, I've found they aren't as friendly as us Tennessee folks. I always know half the ship by the end of the cruise😂😂😂

The US cruise is more straight forward but the European cruises for MSC is very different. Some cruises, they have people boarding and getting off at every port. There is a huge difference between the US and Europe cruise.

@Sun shine yeah in all my travels, I've come to realize different countries & different regions of the world is that every country isn't the same. That includes manners & all. We were raised in the south so its always be kind. Yes ma'am, no sir, hold doors open for others, talk to strangers, etc. Everywhere we go, we're used to not getting what we do but we know everyone wasn't raised like us. Even the staff in different countries aren't the same as America cause Americans tip. They know they have to be kind coming out of US ports if they want that extra money 💰 🤑

This was so fun to watch, thank you! Although I’m sorry you were treated that way with them almost leaving you behind…that is my worst nightmare when we cruise, I super stress about getting back to the ship on time at ports. I think you guys were fair in your rating and you didn’t discount the entire cruise line. Who knows, maybe the Caribbean one would be great! Language barriers definitely impact a lot.
I’ve cruise Royal about 6 times, but have taken a Carnival (never again) and a Disney about 15 years ago. It’s funny you mentioned music at the pool deck, I highly recommend looking into an 80’s Cruise, usually it’s a Royal ship that is commissioned and their staff is always amazing. They even do Star Trek cruises, lol, so you know the Royal staff gets to see the best of everything 😂. You get concerts literally every day, the food is stellar, and the ships are fun - lots to do and concerts at the pool all day long. I know you guys are young but 80’s doesn’t suck lol…anyway, I appreciate your channel and I love your style, Nat! Thank you for everything you guys do!

Hi Matt and Nat, I found you guys recently as I’m researching for my upcoming Mediterranean trip and you visited some of my ports. Your vlogs are amazing, I’ve been binge watching them! 🥰😊Love your style, positive energy and vibe!😊 I was curious which cruise line you were on and when I saw this video drop, I had to stay up past my bedtime and watch lol.
All I can say is…Wow , sorry that you almost got left behind and I can imagine the stress. I’ve been watching pier runner vids too - that’s my worst nightmare. 😮 I’ve been in a late situation before, but luckily it was with a cruise tour and due to freak weather storm delay that affected our group of about 12 pax, so the ship waited for us. But ugh, not a nice feeling. So sorry it put a damper on things.
We decided to cruise again after 10 yrs, and almost booked MSC - my travel agent said they’re expanding rapidly and are aiming to be one of the biggest lines in the world. They have beautiful modern new ships and great deals. But after seeing your experience, glad we made a different choice. I’m a bit nervous about relying on the app (ship time vs land time). Many cruise lines are now using technology to make the experience- from embarkation, booking tours, room controls and onboard activities, etc - seamless and convenient. But if it doesn’t work, that sucks and they should acknowledge and fix it! I’m curious if anyone else knows what the issue with their app was…
All the best to you both, you are a lovely couple and you bring joy to others. ❤😊

Hey!! So excited you found us!! We are so happy to have you on the adventure! 🥰🎉 Thank you so much for watching & for such a kind comment! It truly means more than you know! 💗
AHHH I’m so excited for your Mediterranean cruise!! The ports were (obviously) our favorite parts of the trip! Cruises are such a great way to wake up & explore a new city!
Yeah it definitely wasn’t the most fun, especially when we thought we were all good! We had no idea they were about to leave us! Haha so the stress didn’t kick in until afterwards! 🤣🤦🏼‍♀️ haha YES!! That’s one great perk to booking with the cruise for excursions!
Oh wow, that’s funny you were gonna book with them! Who did you end up choosing?! You’ll have to let us know how you liked them! I would love to cruise again in the Mediterranean, we just need another cruise line. 😜🤣
So we always set our phones to the ship time as soon as we board, which helps with all the time zone changes etc. Even if our phones are in airplane mode the time will still be “ship time”. So what we did after we were almost left, was triple check with people on board, the paper bulletin, the people at the port when are leaving just to confirm the time we had was correct. The day after they almost left us, our app wasn’t working correctly so we went down to customer service & they said yeah we apologize the app isn’t working at the moment. 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️
I’m hoping with your cruise line it will be better. Like we said in the video we have been on other cruise ships & none of them had the problems with apps or communications like we did on the MSC one. So I think you should be fine! I’m super excited for you though! It’ll be a trip of a lifetime!! Can’t wait to hear all about it when you are back! 💗

[1] While I understand your sentiments about this cruise-experience (e.g., when you realised that the ship was about to leave you behind when you were the last ones back to the ship), I think that the bigger lesson is to be better prepared and to ask about things even before you reach the ship. E.g., research ports of call and logistics and make extra provision for delays and contingencies (e.g., aim to be back on the ship at least ONE HOUR before sailing time) and never leave the really important details to doubt; ask BEFORE you leave the ship. . . .

First time watching your videos and it was so well edited. I love the maps! You both were very entertaining and I enjoyed the quick synopsis of each of your port stops. My one issue is after you were almost left behind through no fault of your own, everything else was seen so negatively. Even the fact they wouldn’t let Natalie do the ropes course although it was obviously not MSC fault she didn’t have the right footwear. I understand the emotional turmoil, I’ve cruised plenty and had some close calls almost being left behind (in Naples port coming from the Amalfi coast). I can even understand not particularly liking the fact the announcements were in multiple languages (although most ppl that do research know this in the first 5 min), the fact the food was sub par, and the up selling (which is also very common knowledge). But after your PTSD moment, I believe you both checked out IMO.

I agree 100% and came here to say just that. This is the first video of theirs I've watched - everything seemed to be going along just fine until almost getting left behind (of no fault of theirs) but afterwards a lot seemed negative.
Up-selling is a common situation on all cruises, not real sure how that can cause them PTSD, especially if they've been on other cruises.
I also agree that they shouldn't have gotten upset because they were not allowed to do the rope climbing while she was wearing ballet shoes.
      😮🤦🏼‍♀️
They never really complained about the food until after their near miss of getting left behind as well - then, almost every meal seemed less than desirable.

Take a Princess cruise if you go again. The two I went on were fantastic - no shopping mall feel, and the ships were adult oriented. Areas where kids aren’t interested in going or allowed, such as adult only pools (kiddie pools for children). There are plenty of family-oriented cruise lines/ships parents can choose from.

Great Video :) I have cruised MSC 6 times and overall enjoy them (few main dining room options hit or miss). The all aboard time on the app is wrong and definitely a bad issue for MSC to not update it and the staff being rude about it is not good at all (although sometimes europeans are very direct and don't mean to be as rude as they come off), but as far as the schedule being 30/45 minutes off in the morning this issue is usually not always controllable and not always the fault on the cruise line as sometimes the port its docking in does not always give the go ahead to allow passengers off at the time indicated, or the ship arrived later than expected so getting things organised to get everyone off can be more difficult, this issue usually occurs a lot more in europe than in the carribean, although it can be annoying if you have an excursion or flight booked it happens on many cruise lines (or at least in my experience I have had it on NCL too) not just MSC. Hopefully it didn't ruin the cruise too much for you guys!!
