I’m going to make a series of this type of video to help out young apprentices that aren’t getting a chance to lay on site. Let me know if there’s anything in particular you would like me to show 😊

Great videos Charlie, thanks! All topics are of interest especially the basics. Understanding more about making bond choices and managing broken bond would be cool

Don't forget to let them know when the wall in being run in leaving your trowel in the middle of the muck on the board unattended is the biggest sin of all 😂 saves them climbing the scaffold every two min 😂

I'm an American who did masonry and brick laying in high school only and missed it ever since. Love your videos and you're making me want to practice the art since I was a teenager.

As a bricklaying apprentice, these types of videos help me out a lot. I’m working on bettering my spreads, so this is something I’ll be implementing into my daily routine‼️

Set a work station up for my lad when he was 10 , started him spreading muck , then onto laying bricks on a 5 brick line, start them.with the basics . Now he is 22 and works with me , its an absolute pleasure to see a young man learn his trade . 🙌

Nice work Charlie, and is good to see a man sharing his knowledge and skills with the next generation, am sure you are aware that in the past many skilled tradesmen took their knowledge to the grave , very important to leave knowledge and skills behind, same goes for other trades, stonemasons, carpenters etc.

when i was on the monkey used to nick a few bricks and take home ,at night build a small corner in the garden 5/6 courses was told when you get the hang of that build them without using the level , suprising how good the eyes are when you check the plumbing afterwards

A wonderful idea. We are not all British, and your construction method is distinctive, clean, and different from the world. We want it to be an educational reference and for you to show us all the stages from excavation to handing over the key. Thank you, Amy, and your father.

Alright Charlie I’m a second year apprentice I would say I’m relatively decent I’m regularly getting praise on site, one thing I sometimes struggle with is keeping the perps in line and I want to be a perfectionist as if it ain’t perfect what’s the point so I just want tips on what’s the best way to make sure the perps are in line without having to constantly check which slows you down, any tips are much appreciated

know how long 10 bricks lenghs is and mark it.
too short or too long you know how to adjust.
its too easy to fall into keep buttering and laying.
its good your trying to be good rather than fast.
the speed will happen, and take a telling and listen.

I remember my first few days in the workshop as an apprentice I was doing the exact same thing over and over how to work the muck and learning to spread on a board can't beat it good lad!! Feel sorry for the younger ones today just being used and abused on the hod fair enough first few weeks or month but give the lads a chance!!
