Fear The Walking Dead did something similar on Mother’s Day a few years ago. It was a whole episode about a pregnant woman having a flashforward with her teenage daughter and it ended with her miscarrying. Very bad planning lol

It's wild that the entire reason this was able to happen is because Helaena is never assigned a sworn knight of the Kingsguard. If anyone else was on duty, Criston wouldn't be able to see Alicent since they're smashing in Rhaenyra's old bedroom. Too close to cover it up.
and as soon as she was made queen upon aegon's coronation, criston should've been assigned to her. but bc alicent and criston be fuckin, they did not do their due diligence and a child was killed.

A woman screaming & throwing up is easy to do. But the brutally real, emotionally twisted human reaction Phia managed using only her eyes is more impactful. Instead of screams & thrashes you could feel the utter pain, terror & despair just by looking through her eyes without needing to see what's happening in front of her. Helaena's freeze frame reaction was on point with her cassandra coded character & it was absolutely devastating. The total silence surrounding b&c & its aftermath made it even more jarring. Ofc Helaena called Jaehaerys “the boy”. She was traumatized & mimicking the speech of b&c as we do in moments of high stress. Her "cold" reaction was her mind detaching as coping mechanism, not that she didn’t love her son. Her offering the necklace was actually brilliantly upsetting & endearing cause it hadn't yet registered with her that these ppl are for real. She's too innocent & sheltered. We saw how common ratcatchers are in the palace. No one pays them any attention, royals treat them as wallpaper. So one would assume Cheese has been inside royal quarters & has routinely seen Helaena's odd behavior & nervousness. That's how he knew she's incapable of being duplicitous.
You could pinpoint the exact moment when something in Helaena switches. It's like she has this moment of realization about what she prolly already foresaw & knew she couldn’t prevent. A look of quiet panic & resignation sets in. You can clearly see Helaena dissociating. She didn't even realize that she got down the stairs. When she did, the first place the little girl in her thought of was her mother's room to find comfort. Loved the camera staying anchored to her as if she couldn't perceive emotionally what's happening even as it was happening. The whole scene was filmed as if it was Helaena's nightmare, only to realize there's no waking up.
She did foresee it, as she was embroidering Jaeherys' funeral shroud
It's fascinating. This situation is only going to get worse and worse, yet we keep coming back to it. Why do we always do this to ourselves?! 😟

I LOVED the restraint on B&C. This episode was peak bleak, dread soaked gothic horror. The haunting soundtrack with the cutting & sawing noises creates a diff kind of creeping horror. All these "bring back D&D" posts just makes me know that a lot of purists didn't hate GoT's cheap, gawdy, shock value spectacle writing, what they hated was their self-insert (Dany, Jon or Stannis) not sitting the throne. The "emotional impact" the MCU brain wanted was heavy-handed head chopping gratuitous violence. But unsettling silent terror will always be more disturbing than gory theatrics. Some fans can't even see the tone set by the gloomy, grey-filter KL & cry about bright Bridgerton colors! The book's B&C is an overly sadistic creative writing exercise of cartoon villains (makes sense considering it's made by fictional 'historians'). The extended psychological torment of Helaena strains credibility as B&C had no personal vendetta against her & were risking their own skin playing games in the Red Keep during a war. The show deconstructs how history is shaped by the biases of maesters. It exchanges gore for dread, presents it as a straightforward hit, with the grim realism underscoring the urgency & perilous stakes B&C was in.
This was almost scarier, as 'historians' frame these events as a Machiavellian plot for propaganda. When in reality it’s some plebs willing to do anything for Dameon’s scraps. Which is spine chilling in a separate way & showcases the banality of evil. It's almost more sickening if less gory. *GoT was about brutality & shock geared for a dramatic reaction. Hotd is about building up a creeping unease of dread. GoT was about the stab, Hotd is about digging in & slowly pulling a wound open.* It's easy to write a woman screaming & throwing up. Pulling off the utter pain & psychological horror of the freeze frame reaction of a cassandra coded character who has already dissociated takes brilliance. Phia's eyes told the story. It almost felt like we're watching Helaena's nightmare.

that's bc it's fictional, people are used to watch humans being murdered in media but not animals getting hurt. which one will be weirder, watching a human get beaten up (like glenn from twd) or a dog getting beaten up? obviously it will be the dog one because it's not usually done in media
also it's obvious the kid didn't actually die (and matter of fact they're not allowed to actually act out anything traumatizing with the child actor, i think they even had the kid's own dad do the hand over his mouth and not the b/c actors) so logically you know it's fake, but the dog kick looked real enough that anyone with a heart would have an instinctual reaction to it.

I don't think people realize just how "the help" is disregarded. Seriously. If youre used to maids, housekeepers, janitors or even rat catchers walking about all the time they become "background noise". I think Phia did such an amazing job because it's like she's not sure of if she's in one of her dream states or if this is really happening. Then to be truly seen by someone for "telling true" when almost everyone has brushed her off as weird (except Jace; they would have been an amazing couple with a marriage of love and joy) by someone whom would unalive her child; absolutely chilling and so much more brutal than going off of unreliable narrators' versions of the Targaryen dynasties' history . I also appreciate how the show runners stated that by taking the scene straight from B&C would have meant causing trauma to the child actors, which they wanted no part of, so they went with a much more humane actor-wise way that is wickedly cruel to the audience (the sound design was so well done because it was so awful). I think a lot of people don't realize that Helena is existing in a state of what is and isn't real, so she often seems to be lacking in intelligence, but she has no one to guide her waking dream states; no three-eyed raven, no Valarian magic users, no one so she's just trying her best to make it moment by moment. And the fact that she is already *SEWING THE FUNERAL SHROUD* even if she doesn't know why she is makes Daemon's son for a son bloodlust even more painful; his own grand-nephew is a son and since B&C asked what they were to do if they couldn't find Aemond when the camera cuts away from Daemon's smirk...classic gothic terror storytelling perfection.

I find it fascinating that so many people somehow cannot fill in the blanks of "Son for a son" and Daemon's instructions about what to do if they couldn't find Aemond. I don't get how people can't figure it out without having the show explain it in great detail. They ask Daemon what to do if the couldn't find him, it lingered on Daemon but cut before his response, pretty clearly suggesting that whatever his response was had important implications. Then when Blood and Cheese keep referring to "a son for a son", that should easily answer what Daemon's reponse was. How do people misunderstand that? Especially people who watch TV and movies for a living.

Not really. That is what show writer/ authors explicit explained about Daemon last season. He never actually says or does the things people say he does. Everything is left up to your own interpretation. He could have said it....but DID HE ACTUALLY SAY IT? We don't know.
We who have read the book already know what is going on, and look specifically for how the show translates it. The people watching blind are looking for how the show may or may not confirm their theories of what will happen, which vary greatly.
I don't think it's that weird not catching details like that the first time.
@ManicMeeks The show literally confirms that Daemon told B&C "a son for a son." Blood was also going to give Daemon Jaehaerys's head in a sack while expecting a reward which he obviously wouldn't have done if Daemon didn't give him the leave to kill Jaehaerys.
