They don't really deal with a lot of social issues exactly, but they do have a lot of songs that deal with depression, or finding your way, fighting for what you want, being your own self regardless of people's expectations for you (that and a lot of love songs). They are very keen on being honest and true to themselves so they never really liked the idea of being role models since they admit they aren't perfect and they don't want to show their fans a fake image of themselves just so they can pass as role models. They always held the belief that they are also human so they should be allowed to date and have always been very honest about it with their fans, so us fans are just used to it. That alienated a lot of fans but also gave the group freedom to pretty much say whatever they want cause they know the fans they do still have love them for their music and their art and their honesty and not just cause of their looks or cause of an idea they have of them. They were also the first group from their company and started out really young (the youngest being 14 at the time and the oldest being 16) and their company had no idea what to do with them so they never got properly "trained" on how to keep that kind of image anyway. So member like hongki, jaejin, and seunghyun have always tended on the side of too honest (going into tmi sometimes lol) and just plain saying whatever is on their heads regardless of if it gets them into trouble lol. ahh sorry for the wall of text, i just love them so much i can't help it

Not a lot of K-pop acts dare to touch on heavy topics like mental health, so I'm pleasantly surprised :) I was actually referring to this video when I said that stuff about social issues (the way he smiles at the end makes me think he knew that it was somewhat controversial of him to not change his answer to AOA's Jimin - so to me this counts as being aware since he made a conscious choice to not portray same-sex attraction as something unthinkable or wrong). All the more reason to check these guys out! This is what I love about lesser-known groups! If they want to, they can actually express their true thoughts and feelings without getting lynched for it. From what I've seen the maniacs (sasaengs) tend to flock around the really huge groups, so I guess that's one of the reasons why it's more common for groups with smaller fandoms to stay themselves even when they're on camera :) And don't worry about the text!
