Robert Duvall is the man! So many great roles, but my three favorites films of his are: "The Great Santini," "Colors," and "The Apostle." And he's a true gentleman as well. One of the few movie stars who has remained humble and unaffected by fame.
Truly my favorite actor ever! So many good roles he's played. Gus McCray in Lonesome Dove is probably my favorite. He played that perfectly. His fictional life leading up to his role in this movie had earned him the respect to play this particular character. Excellent!
There is no other actor that I know of that has a filmography that even comes close in comparison to Robert Duvall’s body of work!! I encourage you to look up his complete body of work, you will be shocked at how many truly great films he was in!!!
Thank you Leonard, and thank YOU "Bobby Lee" Duvall, for this GREAT informal interview. I Loved it. I learned a LOT from watching this about Mr. Duvall's career and the business itself. Interesting insights into so many factors that create the films, Television shows, and screenplays that the public (outside of the Hollywood beltway) relates to, that seem so real and relative to us. These are REAL stories.about real people.
Duvall is a great, naturalistic movie actor. One of the best. But he also has a lot of range. Go watch him in Wrestling Ernest Hemingway where he plays a Cuban barber living in Florida. He's amazing in it.
I've never heard anyone mention "Wrestling Ernest Hemingway," likely because it garnered no critical acclaim. To me, it is the best movie ever made and, had it not had to compete at WB with Grumpy Old Men, would have won lots of awards.
Who is the director Duvall says he tried to emulate? Never mind; I found it (though I couldn't understand the name when Duvall said it). It's Kenneth Loach, and the film he mentioned is KES.
Can't say I agree as I find this interview as professional in every way possible. Maltin asked Duval everything we the fans want to know. Duval answered with as much detail as possible and I love the setting too. Like a couple of ole friends hanging out shooting the bs about the good ole days..Maltin is fabulous🤩 Robert is his usual fabulous self😍 I love this💕🥰💞

Mine too
I burst into tears when Gus died. I mean how could Lonesome Dove go on without our Leading Man our own loveable rake and rambler Augustus McCray.
I have the ut most respect for this man personally and as a actor , a real stand up man , a great man.

Yeah, me too! I love that movie! :) Duvall, Richard Harris and a young Sandra Bullock. GREAT movie, and almost no-one knows about it.
I love your philosophy, maybe can help with my pinball crab claws. I'm going that way.
He could pass for a guy in his 60s
Love him in Lonesome Dove, Sexondhand Lions, the Judge, and not so much in In dubious battke because he was the bad guy but what an incredible movie
Had tough time hearing this. Very upsetting

Gus!!!!
The word the last lady question was looking for was "epizootics", (an animal epidemic). Looked it up in the script online. Just saying..
I. Love. Him. In. Tzone
i wonder who he thinks were weak actors in lonesome dove
Difficult to watch at times because Maltin cannot complete a sentence. Sounds nervous and uncomfortable. Along with that phony laugh.
