I have a degree in Radio TV and have worked in real world radio in the past. I now own my own internet radio station that broadcasts globally. It's important for people to realize that they have to have permissions to broadcast past about a 3-mile area but it sounds like what you're talking about is totally legal (under section 15 of the FCC code). What I do is broadcast my signals from my online broadcast software where I am licensed to play others music and programs so that it is covered that way as well and I only broadcast to a limited area locally. My global listeners can still hear my internet radio station online with the server that I use. Always do things legally and you won't have to worry.

I noticed that 1500w fm transmitters are being sold on Alibaba for around $2,000. Is there any laws regarding ownership? or is it just usage? I have no desire to get one but I'm curious if it could be owned and not used.

I live in Stockton California. And I met a thrift store called deal for days and I just found a FM transmitter for three dollars in the box. My goal is to transmit when I djay so people can hear what I do. And also use it within my church. I just wanted to let you know that I subscribe to this channel and what I got. I love the video that has helped me out so much. Thank you for posting it.

I wanted to have a curiosity. If there is someone near my home who is using one of these ST-7C transmitters, can I modulate it or even better hear what they are saying once I get the frequency right? In short I would like with this instrument to detect my neighbors who are talking very low but are using special equipment. I am brainstorming to find a solution and now I am finalizing a very simple but I hope it will give me a breakthrough in my investigation. That is all for now and then later I can add more things. Thank you very much.

This is a dumb question? But It will transmit through a regular radio you have laying around the house right? Can I also just use the transmitter without a mixer and still get same signal strength. Or a smaller mixer.

All you need is a dual 1/4 inch to 1/8 inch cord. Plug the 1/8 inch part into the audio jack on the FM transmitter. Plug the dual 1/4 part on the main output with the red portion to the right and the other (white) portion to the left. It depends on what mixing board you have, but the concept should be the same.

I have a NIORFNIO desktop- TB series transmitter with a magnet base and 18' cable. The paper goes into great detail on antenna placement, 5 meters from any wall and 5 meters from the ground up, That's 16' 5". According to the actual antenna or Arial hight with the channel we run (88.3) is 77 cm or 30.3 ". My question is this ? Would it be ok to leave the unit inside and run the cord and antenna outside and sit it on a chair or box of some sort ? Do I have to get it 16' 5" high and away from the building Wall ? It is used at our church. Thanks 😊

You need to understand the difference between the terms "radio station" and "frequency". A radio station is an entity that uses equipment to broadcast on a particular frequency. The radio station can be "licensed" or "unlicensed". If they are using a certain amount of power, then then need to be "licensed", otherwise, they are considered a "pirate station" or "illegal". When you select "89.5" on that unit, you are setting the transmit frequency to 89.5 Mhz, NOT the "radio station" to "89.5". It's a subtle difference, but if you are going to be putting this information out on the internet, you should try to be accurate in your info / terms.

I’ve run sound at churches and I have my own podcast so I can help with this...
I have a headphone distribution amp at home, and it gives me four outputs (via 1/4 inch jacks) based on the output from the main outs on my board. No matter how simple or complex your board is, every board has main stereo out.
With a simple soundboard and a headphone distribution amp:
1/4 stereo male into the 1/4 stereo female out of the headphone amp channel.
The other end of your cable is 1/8 stereo male into the FM transmitter audio Jack.
You can also use a small headphone DA (eg Behringer), much less expensive than the rack mounted DAs. Depends on space and money.
If you have a clean line out from a more detailed board, and that line comes out as XLR male, you can use an adapter (XLR female to 1/4 stereo male) to get the audio into your headphone distribution amp (large or small). From there, one of your outputs is the same as mentioned, 1/4 stereo male to 1/8 stereo male.
Another reason to go with a distribution amp (rather than just going from board to FM transmitter) is that you can use one of the other outputs to send to a digital recorder (TASCAM. Zoom, etc.) You’d use the same cable - 1/4 stereo male to 1/8 stereo male. This way, you have multiple options:
      1. Sound from your main outs to your speakers.
      2. Sound from your headphone DA to your FM transmitter.
      3. Sound from your headphone DA to your digital recorder.
And - if you REALLY want to get fancy - you can monitor the output of your digital recorder (or listen to it for playback) by plugging a 1/8 stereo male into the headphone jack of the digital recorder and the other end into your soundboard input - whether that’s RCA stereo female (using RCA stereo male cable), or 1/4 female insert (using 1/4 stereo male), or XLR female on the board if you have a spare channel which means XLR male adapter.
Try those - sorry for the lack of visual aid, it’s 12:50am in L.A. - but the theory should be solid.

For low power transmissions you don't need a license. (1w)

We'll, Yes and No. I'm a retired radio station owner and broadcaster for 42 years. I happen to know the make and model of the FM Transmitter this guy is using in the video. A WARNING, This FM Transmitter is not FCC Certified, however the licensed broadcasters have been using FCC Non Compliant Transmitters and Antennas in a emergency basis, then their emergency seems to go longer "unfixed" (wink 😉), so in reality, they are breaking the law too. This very low power FM Transmitter this guy is using in the video (just in my opinion) is good enough to cover a chuch parking lot. If a major pandemic hits America again where the congregation can not go into the building for worship services, this would be fine to use, BUT, two things, 1.) use a frequency between 88.1 and 107.9 MHz. It is illegal to use 88.7 and 87.9. You can not use any frequency above 107.9. 2.) make sure, double sure you turn that little thing OFF after church services are over! The FCC Rules in unlicensed transmissions is listed in Part 15.219 of the FCC Rules. FM Transmissions or the signal must not exceed 250 microvolts per meter at 3 meters, which is a radius of about 200 feet. While there is no field strength meter to measure a power this low, the best advice I can give a church is if your going to do this, make sure the signal doesn't go too far from the parking lot or don't do it.
