  • Moeciu is a commune in Brasov County, Transylvania, Romania, consisting of the villages of Cheia, Drumul Carului, Magura, Moieciu de Jos (residence), Moeciu de Sus and Pestera.
    In recent years, rural tourism in the area has developed a lot, a favorable factor being the proximity to Bran Castle. Moeciu commune is one of the three administrative communes that make up the Bran area: Bran, Moeciu, Fundata.
    The commune was founded, in its current administrative component, in 1968 when administrative reform was carried out in Romania. It consists of six villages, being common with most villages in the Bran area, as follows: Moeciu de Sus, Cheia, Moeciu de Jos, Drumul Carului, Pestera, Magura. The administrative headquarters of Moeciu commune is in the village of Moeciu de Jos.
    Moeciu commune is located in Tara Barsei, which is nothing but the south-eastern extremity of the largest intramontane depression in Romania. The Brasov Depression, which occupies the south-eastern extremity of the county of the same name. Compared to Brasov, Moeciu commune is located 28 km on the road that connects Brasov with Campulung Muscel and Pitesti, being one of the oldest roads in Romania, known even before the occupation of Dacia by the Romanians, in 106 after Christ. On the territory of Moeciu commune, in Pestera village, the archeological excavations revealed traces of habitation from the Paleolithic period, more precisely from the Upper Paleolithic. Also within the commune of Moeciu, in the village of Drumul Carului, the archeological excavations carried out a few years ago by professor Stelian Cosulet, revealed the traces of a Roman camp that seems to complete the system of Roman fortifications in Dacia, known as the limes. transalutan. Precisely due to its special importance, after the occupation of Transylvania by the Hungarian royalty, it ordered the construction of the castle of Bran, as an advanced point of guard and defense in the Bran pass.

    Until recently, the main occupation of the inhabitants of Moieciu commune (which at the last census of the population in 2002 reached the number of 5,000 inhabitants), was mountain agriculture, the main emphasis falling on animal husbandry. In recent years, an unprecedented development has taken place in agrotourism, which tends to become the main economic activity in the entire Bran area. In fact, within the commune of Moieciu there are some of the most famous agrotourism pensions in the whole Bran area.
