    Awesome work! I had the same blower with same issue I gave up and sold it for $45 Just didn't have the patience you have here💯👍🏾

    I’m getting close to the end of the video and was inspired to check the comments. I was surprised not to see something about the GTO.

      I'm glad you noticed. That car is my father's. He bought it in 1998, trashed. He then took every nut and bolt out of that thing and restored It. It took him 3 years, but it's his baby now.

    Stuck rings. Good fix i wouldn't have been able to fix it. Wow. Good video.👍

      Thanks. Yeah, usually people will just replace the rings, but sometimes they're just stuck.

    Not perfect but you got it to work. Considering the number of people who can't do simple maintenance I think you do a good job. I like the way you do your thinking in your outside voice so we know what you are doing. Very good video.

      Thank you! I am glad you enjoyed the video. I agree, it was not perfect and I probably should have replaced some components, but it ran!

    I have the same blower with the same low compression issue. I can usually get it to start and even run for a while, but if it stalls when hot there is no way to get it running again. Cylinder looks good, but I think my ring is also seized. Piston assemblies are pretty cheap. I think it’s just too easy to swap the piston and ring. Your video is very helpful, will definitely speed up my ability in figuring out how to get it apart.

      Thank you! Take a look inside your cylinder next to the exhaust port. Look for scoring. Run your finger across the inside of the cylinder. It should be super smooth. If it's not, that's contributing to the issue. If not, definitely service or replace your ring. Also, 575227901 is the oem part number for a new ring. Good luck!

      I have the same exact blower and mine is brand new never worked since I bought it low compression

    Great job. I thought you smoked the piston with the blowtorch, but you didn't! I think you might may have left out a washer when assembling the fan, but I believe its not too important 😉

    never use a torch on a little piston, never use channel locks to grip the piston, carb spray and brass brush to clean ring groove, maybe a small pick to get the rest of the carbon off. The torch will destroy the needle bearings in the rod and wrist pin.

    • @jonahssmallenginerepair
      @jonahssmallenginerepair  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, I used a torch on the piston, and channel locks to grip it. I use that blower as my personal blower and the crank bearings haven't blown up yet.

  • @bobn8865
    @bobn8865 ปีที่แล้ว

    Supposed to be a pin in the piston groove to stop the ring from rotating and losing compression if ring opening rotated toward exhaust port.

    The connecting rod pin works its way out and rubs a hole in the plastic crank assembly cover ..so not enough compression to start..at least thats what was wrong with mine ..seen several others with same issue ..not sure how to keep the pin from sliding out..mine will fall out with the crank cover off

    Seems to be a big problem with these. I have two, and a third parts doner. I've put in a new piston and ring, works for awhile then happens again.
    Easy fix...Pull sparkplug put piston at top of stroke, or enough to be past ports. Fill with Marvel Mystery Oil to top of sparkplug hole. Sit for 24 hrs or untill all leaks past ring. Do it again. Will then unstick ring and compression and starting restored.
    Im now going to try MMO in the gas along with 2 stroke oil and see if it stops happening.

      Wow. You've certainly had a fair share of problems with these. Personally, the blower I used in this video, I still have and it still works great. However, I don't use it all that much. I would try mixing more oil in the gas, maybe try a 32:1 ratio. That should help it cool better, allowing he piston ring to not get stuck... In theory.

    I feel I would of replace the piston and ring . I feel piston is compromised and not sure it wouldn't happen again

    • @jonahssmallenginerepair
      @jonahssmallenginerepair  ปีที่แล้ว

      If I was fixing this for a customer, I probably would. But I just wanted to use this as my blower, so I didn't care if it happened again. My thought was it would run more and loosen up everything overtime.

  • @justincovington4401
    @justincovington4401 ปีที่แล้ว

    Most of the time if stuff like that don't have power. Spits and sputters when trying to crank it. Or doesn't Rev up. There's a screen in the muffler that will get carbon build up. Gotta check those every now and then. I've never come across a stuck ring problem

    • @jonahssmallenginerepair
      @jonahssmallenginerepair  ปีที่แล้ว

      How come un sticking the rings fixed the blower then? I looked at the spark arrestor screen and it was clean as a whistle.

    • @jonahssmallenginerepair
      @jonahssmallenginerepair  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately, I do not know the size of the piston ring because it is back in the engine. I can give you the part number. Maybe somebody has dimensions. If you google "Husqvarna 575227901" you should find the piston ring.
