1:33 "Rival closed his DS" is probably the funniest description I've ever heard for a Pokemon game crashing.
I laughed allot while watching this video, because with every crash, I mentally applied the same description to each crash: The enemy Trainer rage-quitted and DC'd, as closing the DS I think disables online connections. It's been a long time since I played online with the NDS (as is the same for most people, because Nintendo cut the online server for NDS and Wii years ago), so I could be wrong

Any run is possible for TH-cam views. In all honesty it's less about the if, and more about the how. And watching someone lose their patience over arbitrary rules set on an easy kids games.

Self aware? Sure. Genre aware? Absolutely not. There are plenty of channels making this kind of video that will ABSOLUTELY make a video even if it's impossible, like Gamechamp3000's VG Myths series.
Of course, all the good ones will see that it's impossible and go "ah, that's a shame. *but what's the minimum?"* and continue from there.

13:18 Pain Split is not technically an attacking move, since it does not technically deal damage, it just evenly splits the total hp of the two pokemon. that's why it can hit ghost types.
That's just silly. Most status moves ignore type immunities.

I would never have expected nosepass to be able to learn pain split but it gets it via tutor in every game from hgss to usum

Noob stomping is important. Someone needs to tell these folks that legendary Pokémon don't auto-win battles if the trainer is stupid. Half of a battle is done in the teambuilder before said battle starts.
@@gengarzilla1685 it’s literally AG. The whole purpose is to use broken mons to win. Temp knows they’re children but still argues with them anyways and trolls them in his videos to get views.
You miss the point. Lots of his opponents use god-like mons as if having them in your team makes you instantly autowin no matter what, and then Temp brings these folks down low with gimmicks. Broken mons need a good player at the helm, not overconfident children who swear enough to pay all your bills for a year with their swear jar money.
Playing AG is no excuse for one to shut off their brain, I can tell you that much.
I think what makes this run funnier is that I can just imagine some troll Showdown player with this team and you KNOW they're picking Rosa as their trainer Icon.
Alpharad is just the in-game manifestation of that trainer
The whole Pokemon Showdown bit not only was amazing to watch, it also gave context on how stupidly powerful this team is to people who don't play pokemon competitively

So, what I'm hearing is: The greatest challenge you faced wasn't the main antagonists, or any of the gym leaders, or even the Elite Four or legendary Pokemon.
The greatest challenge was that the game was as stable as a _house of cards built on sand._
It's not a stability question, it's a "how much does Nintendo hate emulators" question.
Er, I do believe that partially burying cards into sand (or dirt) makes for an even more stable foundation for a house of cards than building a house of cards on a solid foundation of, say, wood, stone, or metal, right?

I like how so much of this video was Alpharad doubting his skills as an entertainer instead of talking about the Pokémon battles themselves.
Him playing that one Dream soundtrack at 11:37 when he said he cheated is something else.
I feel with these challenges the real "story" is the puzzle solving of the game, not the "can you" aspect. As you showed, Colress could mess up nearly your entire team if you weren't careful and triple battles were nearly a run-ender.
This is what battling Lt. Surge felt like as a kid.
Also fun fact: I literally spent 4 years trying to beat Iris.

Reactions are very challenging
TBF, the video he was reacting to was a pretty legendary Pokemon challenge run. It's Gamechamp's video on beating Pokemon Blue without taking any damage, which is especially hard/stressful in that generation because of the 1/256 glitch- almost all moves, even ones with "100%" accuracy, have a 1/256 chance to miss in Gen 1. She also, like a madwoman, decided to do the run savescum-less, unlike smallant's Pokemon Platinum no damage run: ANY damage would result in a deletion of her save file and force her to start over from the beginnning.

This was actually kind of a strat back in gen 5 competitive, when the meta was flooded with op dragon types when you wanted to confuse them
Gen 5 players when they learn what taunt is
This strat only worked against people who spammed legendaries and had no idea how to play the game competitively.
Competitive players would always set up weather, stealth rocks, and use status effects, and they had no problem defeating such a gimmicky team.

It's a strat in any generation in 4 and beyond. Competitive players in any generation are stratified between those that know how to use non-attacking moves and those that keep attacking into Pain Split Nosepass until they lose.
Seeing "Attempt #5: (TABLE HIT)" in the script and knowing that it took *eight more attempts* after that is absolutely brutal.
I think Pain Split worked on ghosts because it's a status move. Only damaging moves are subject to Ghost immunity, moves like Growl and Odor Sleuth work too.
I have seen an incredible spike in the rising popularity of the Unova Games lately.
PointCrow, Smallant (both of whom you mentioned did challenges like this) and you all made a segment with the lone purpose of giving a shoutout to the massive effort that the BW2 Team put into these games. And it speaks volumes.
Black 2 was my first Pokémon game, and it will always be my favorite one, no matter how many games they make.
So I just wanted to say thank you, Icarus.

I think it was Pokemen7 or MandJTV who noted that part of why they're so popular now is because the people who were kids playing them are now older fans who can have nostalgia for them. This was mainly said in context of SWSH being seen that way about a decade from now, but I think it holds a grain of truth.
I seriously appreciate the section at 13:18 where he just talks about how good this game is, it sucks how much this game has gone under people’s radars but its truly the best pokemon game.

Awesome video, definitely sympathize with your struggle against Iris, back when I first played the game, I borrowed someone’s action replay to unlock the Challenge Key, and oh my god, Iris was pure EVIL! I legitimately struggled against her far more than I ever did with Cynthia(who I always brought a Weavile to immediately invalidate her “balanced” team that is half weak to Ice).
Long story short, Iris is deceptively tough to battle, and her Haxorus is challenging to fight regardless of the type of run you’re doing.
I appreciate you did this challenge in the Unova region especially black/white 2 because they don't get nearly enough love
The biggest challenge of this run was trying to predict when the emulator would crash in the middle of a fight.

My favourite part of, what feels like, every Black and White challenge run is how Heartbreaker Charles always seems to literally break the heart of the person playing, as they fruitlessly struggle to come up with a strategy to get past him.
I had a nuzlocke where Charles killed a Pokemon because she literally got targeted by both Pokemon he had that could target her when I tried healing.
Charles can go ride his bike off a cliff.
Everyone else: I literally can't comprehend what this player is doing
Charles: ...kid, what the hell are you doing?
Now that is what we in the business call a "no shit Sherlock" moment!
For the triple battle you couldprobably swap out one member for a mon with wide gaurd to deal with spread for a couple turns, or just use fake out and attack into it with 2 other pokemon.

One of my friends decided to try this before. His entire team was 6 Rattatas with quick attack, endeavor, and a focus sash.
Rattata takes damage, endeavors, and then quick attacks.

Man this bring so many memories, I had over 500 hours in White2. Even though I didn't know nothing about actual strategy at that time I still just loved fighting the same trainers every day and going around, now I even think twice if I want to make a new team in the recent games.

This was a hilarious video, especially the Showdown part. But I also liked seeing Jacob rapidly descend into madness as he just rambles about trying to make a script about doing the exact same thing for an entire game. I do love Unova, though. I played a lot of Black 2 and it was my reintroduction into Pokemon. Seeing Kyurem legit try to kill the player only for N and his dragon to save the day? The cutscene of said dragon being spliced into Kyurem? The sheer perspective of Castelia City? Love it. Love Black 2, love the look of Gen V.

Weirdly enough, this made me appreciate Gen 5 and BW2 a lot. There's a lot of really cool aspects of this gen that I'm v excited to see come back in whatever remake ends up happening (because we all know it's happening.) Unova is just a really cool place. And even though a lot of it wasn't shown in this video, they have some really tough trainers, gyms and battle styles.
