@@arnavbhagwat4232 Randy was an awesome worker & he was a decent baseball player before he went into the business. He obviously inherited his Dad's athletic talent & would've been PERFECT for Watts's territory not just because of his own talent, but because Bill was great friends with Randy's Dad. As far as what you said about Hogan & his days with the NWO, he was more believable as a heel back in the late 70's-early 80's when he had Freddie Blassie as his manager then when he was with the NWO mainly because it was ridiculous to see half a promotion's roster helping an old has been keep the world title.
Imagine if Watts gets the WTBS time slot in 1985 instead of Crockett and he signs Savage instead of going to WWF. Then he gets Magnum to come back as he’s a national company. A Magnum vs Savage feud would of been intense for sure!!!
It would have been great, but by the end of 86 / early 87, both guys would have been in the WWF (assuming Magnum doesn't have his car wreck) just like most of the other top names in the Mid South territory were by that time.
IF Macho goes to Mid South and stays on TBS, I would eventually have Savage as my #1 guy. BECAUSE he had the IT FACTOR to match Hogan and Flair. Plus he was one of the best in the ring as well. For my money, he and Flair were the top two total packages in wrestling for a large chunk of the 80's. And even heading into the early 90's. But Macho was the NEW AGE TOTAL PACKAGE who added the great aerial assault to the technical skills, main event IT factor, great mic work, and ability to be great as a face or heel. But Magnum could have ALSO been that guy as well. He had that star power as well. Just didn't get to reach his potential with it. And then you also had Dibiase as well who could have been the top guy. So u have three great options right there! Just think Savage's IT factor was on a bit higher level!

100 years from now, kids will be listening to this for a college course on 20th century pop culture or maybe even a class on the history of professional wrestling/sports entertainment, to me listening to this now, its a cool thought.
Randy wouldn't have been able to do the flying elbow in Mid South without breaking the rules. He'd have to have been a heel or pick up a different finish.
His other finishing move, the piledriver, was banned then too. From what I know, flying elbow from the 2nd rope is legal. But yeah, you can do anything as a heel.
Someone asked a question last week, "do you believe if Savage didn't sign with Vince would he be a huge star?"... I've been thinking about that question.. How the hell would Savage not been a star anywhere?! Size, athleticism, in ring ability, psychology, promo, it factor, there's just no way he couldn't right
1:51 Future question for the Drive-Thru: Since Watts was so intent on keeping Kayfabe, did Volkoff actually file a complaint with the embassy in case someone bothered to look for it?
Randy Savage was in a league unto himself. From the day he premiered in wwf I knew he was destined to be wwf champion even with Hogan on top unlikely to have it work for him brother. Ahhh Jamie Dundee the man who had no self control
I'm also thinking based on how II was acting maybe he turns early and teams with Savage. Randy and Angelo getting color on Lanny for his comments would have been enough back then and it also sounds like they started jobbing him once Randy wasn't coming in. It all happened so quickly that point gets lost in the shuffle. Plus I'm thinking Lanny left pretty quick to go to Memphis. If so they just jobbed him on the way out like anybody else. They would have played it totally different if Randy came in.
If anyone's interested, there's a clip of a Savage-Magnum TA vs Mad Mongolians tag team match on the network and WWE YT channel. It was part of a GCW Thanksgiving tournament in 1983. Not Savage's finest work but damn, that's a dream tag team right there.
I know Mike Jackson must have been a little respected by the other guys who were higher on the card. I even remember the nature boy letting him do some stuff in a singles match on TV and he didn't usually do that with job guys
now I'm trying to imagine Randy and Lanny both in Mid-South...then Angelo appears....and reveals plans to take over Mid-South.....and the unthinkable happens, and the top heel team in Mid-South takes a stand for Mid-South, and you have what is essentially two heel teams facing off, but Corny's epic promo rants are now getting major face pops from the crowds...
I wonder if they (Mid-South) were working up to showing footage of Magnum T.A.
