Chrystal Talifero. She also sang on a Northern Pikes tune called Girl with a Problem. She was a highly sought after singer in the late 80’s and 90’s. So much range with soul!
@@nicholashill7462 Rascal Flatts butchered this song and unfortunately most people under the age of 30 think they wrote it. What a cursed legacy for this otherwise fantastic and highly original song.
Tom and the band and female back up singer just nailed this. What a damn good live performance--the last minute of the performance gets in your soul--brings happiness.
I wouldn’t exactly say they nailed it. There was an obvious moment at the beginning where Tom wanted to continue his harmonica solo, but the band went on to the next part of the song and he had to cut himself off and catch up with the lyrics
Love it when the live performance sounds just as good or even better than the orginal recording. This one hit it right out of the ball park. Fantastic.
This was my favorite song back in high school Tom Cochrane absolutely fucking sexy and handsome plus a harmonica solo amazing and Paul Shaffer and a great backup singer brilliant my dear
Micky Dolenz and Paul McCartney, 2 of the best harmonizers in the history of Rock-and-Roll, would surely commend the female singer's background vocals.
I love this live version I was 11 years old when he did this but there's a high quality version on TH-cam that's awesome I've listened to it a 100 times
What a great musician/songwriter. For anyone who's introduction to Tom was through this song I have a feeling they were blown away by his work with Red Rider too!
I gotta say this man plays the harmonica like a freaking blues master. If There’s any blues songs this guy did let me know and I’ll be the first one here on TH-cam.
Today is May 5, 2022. Hard to believe so much time has passed since this. Kudos to Tom, especially at the end where he acknowledges Paul Shaffer. (Paul was a lucky guy during his tenure with Dave to have played with so many fantastic musical acts)
Wish you would come back to Vancouver!! Unreal you Sing No Regrets, that's my tattoo on my arm for many years!! You have a amazing Voice and at your age Still sounds the Same 😊awesome!!
Rascal Flatts was great at performing this too in my opinion. And this song is sooo good! Love it! Reminds me of summer. Sun, the warm wind, warm summer rain... the beach and the sea... :)
I LOVE Tom Cochrane;s version.. You can't sing, play the hamonica, AND the guitar ALL at the same time! he he... I , myself, can't do ANY of those three! Classic tune!
As of today on Remembrance Day 2021, 30 years since the song was released. Note that Paul Shaffer and Tom Cochrane had a reunion here: the last time they performed was in 1985: they were in the onetime supergroup Northern Lights singing Tears Are Not Enough. 🇨🇦 Life is a 🛣
I remember this performance. I video taped it and played it to death. Definitely one of the greatest cuts of 90's. Remake is garbage, but I'm glad it made Tom some loot.
true Haha the clothes and make up of the girl SCREAMMMMMMMMM the 80s + early 90s. Rascal Flats wishes they could sing that song that good. Tom Cochrane/Red Rider forever!!!
At 3:09 then at 3:24 you can see him cuing the back ground singer to go for it, while i play this harmonica....A professional live player, playing with a house band. bravo.
I'll mention it here, because no one else has - joining Tom on guitar is Toronto (Etobicoke) musician Syl (Sylvio) Simone. Syl is an old acquaintance of my brother, sister, and myself and one of Canada's most underrated guitarists. He once played my cheap, plywood Telecaster copy and made it sing like I never could. What happened Syl? You shoulda been a star!
Dave was such a good music curator. Anton fucked up the beginning, but, in his defense, this song is so upbeat it takes concentration and self control to serve this song. It's a really simple, and 30 years later and i can never play this straight...
Tom and Red Rider would play Lunatic Fringe live, and it sound as amazing as the studio version. If you know that song, you'll know that pulling it off live is a stroke of brilliance.
It's different because it's a live performance...none other like it...it's a chart topper across the border which isn't very far away for me fortunately.
Great live performance....Story behind it is funny.... Syl Simone (guitarist at back blue guitar) said Shelly Winters was in the green room pre show... and hitting on him.. 🙂
Say what you will about David Letterman but he had so many great and influential artists and acts during his time on the air. The David Letterman Show would be what would have happened if the Ed Sullivan Show persisted until the early 2000s, in my opinion.
That female backup singer really brought it. She electrified that version. Good stuff.
Micky Dolenz and Paul McCartney, 2 of the best harmonizers in the history of Rock-and-Roll, would likely agree with you.
The backup singer lady is fire
She's been in Billy Joel's Band sense 89 but isnt listed much for Obvious reasons. Crystal Talifero.
@@ME143-c1d She was also in John Mellencamp's band in the late 80's.

An example of how African American back singers are needed but underrated.

This song is still elite. He jumps the octave up on the second verse...sings in both the low and high range with excellence.
what a great live performance
Ummm
Listen to Future Islands “Seasons” performance on letterman. Incredible
I love this song, however, this was absolute trash for a live version. Terrible
Tom and the band and female back up singer just nailed this. What a damn good live performance--the last minute of the performance gets in your soul--brings happiness.
That was the real thing by the real guy. shucks

Damn they were feeling it. Amazing vocals from the entire band really
This the version I will always remember. Tom Cochran and the World's Most Dangerous Band.
I never get tired of hearing this version, I always get tired of hearing other versions.

The guys in Rascal Flatts need to see how the original, and still superior version, is sung.
Fuck'n eh!
Rascal Flatts are awful man.
@jefferyhoeschenhoeschen5767 no, they aren't!
One of my favorites from back in the day.
That Fucking harmonica solo
