how do you know your speed is 315 from out side and how do you know what direction the missile is coming
Okay, yes. At battlefield3 wiki it goes to say, "The ECM Jammer is a specialization for pilots of air vehicles. When deployed, the ECM prevents enemies from acquiring weapon lock, ECM jammer might also deflect any incoming Javelin, Stinger and Guided Shells coming towards you if you use evasive maneuvers."
So yes, it helps with regular heat seeking missiles, but flares cant hold a flame to guided locks, so all in all, that's ECM's job
hard breaking down to 250, then afterburning out of the hardbrake is much quicker than 315 turning - have you tried it?
you want to try and predict the enemy jet's movement. For example, picture a jet flying in a straight line right in front of you. He flips the plane in a way so that his right wing is facing up and his cockpit is facing left. You can almost guarantee that he'll be turning left. It becomes a lot easier to see what an enemy jet is doing in your proximity once you unlock air radar. Hope this helps :)
315 kph turn speed! I've been looking for this everywhere! I had been going for like 295 but I wasn't quite sure what the absolute fastest was. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

some other tips would be if you can't shake enemy from your tale and you have "Below Radar" go directly down and stay low untill far enough and face him again or if you don't want to do that and you are too close to each other put your nose down press "S" while turnning and then go up or whereever he is, you will do the turn closer
Well one thing i do is map the space bar to pitch upwards as if you were pulling back on your mouse.This allows for quick turns and more freedom for your arm.Now to actually shake off an enemy jet all you have to do is hold space, shift and s.The reason you do that is so you turn faster from "braking" but don't actually slow down.This is the fastest way to turn.I rarely and i mean RARELY get out turned by an enemy jet.
Killing Infantry with a Jet feels even more awesome on Hardcore Mode - Teammates telling you the exact enemy location and requesting an air strike = priceless
the way you get rid of jets on your tail... is..amazing
3d icon is the red triangle or symbol above an enemy. When you spot a guy, the triangle pops up. Unless you are in hardcore mode.
ECM is an unlock for jets (the last unlock) and when you use it, it breaks locks and keeps you off the radar for a few seconds...
See what he did at about 2.20 with the missile? Go for a half barrel roll, then do a nosedive loop de loop thing. A lot of pilots won't expect it so you'll be able to catch them off guard.
Can't wait to buy this game,I am planning to buy it now because I was saving to upgrade my pc so I will buy BF3 soon :) I hope that many people still play this game.
You just have to guess, mostly if its from air use your air radar to see if there is an enemy jet/helicopter, if they are out of your radar bounds, they won't be able to lock on to you. AA - try to spot it by firstly getting away from it, then you will know where to fly, Stingers - just blank guessing
Fly to the mountains and fly as close to the ground as you can get. They won't be able to see you anymore. Also when you fly really low over the ocean in this map, you're a little harder to spot. You can also just slow down your jet and fly in circles, boosting every now and again, and you might end up chasing him, instead of him chasing you.
we´ve got 2 ways where the missile can come from:
1. Air (enemy Jet or chopper)
2. Ground (Tank or Engineer)
-->reaction to 1. : look at air radar ..u can see where the enemey jet or chopper is shooting from
-->reaction to 2. : fly out of the area enemy ground soldiers can reach, than the missle can only come from behind
the 3d icon is the icon above the enemies heads, and Q is the button for spotting.
Typically you are being shot from behind. Here is a tip for his tip. When being locked on, if you cannot evade the lock, afterburners in a straight line will allow you to flip your plane and dodge the missile. Pull up so that you won't nose dive. Then maneuver behind the enemy jet and light them up.

OMG! THANK YOU! I've been having the hardest time actually spotting targets whenever my shit-of-a-team never reads "Spot targets" they just go for objectives, while there are some snipers who will do their job...
Just use brake when turning. No throttle & no afterburner. Practice for a few mins on an empty server just doing horizontal circles. At normal cruising speed start your turn, hold brake for half a second or so then release. Hold, release etc.. What you're trying to do here is maintain the optimal turning speed which is 313kts. Once you get the hang of that, get used to how gravity affects things. Turning going upwards don't brake at all & turning downward hold the brake a lot more.
Go down in a 360 turn at the speed of 312 km then reverse and turn the other way then go up, kick afterburner and keep going up, ECM if you can, if he's behind you while going up, make a half turn and quit it going sideways trying to shake his aim, then when he can't have a shot at you, Go straight up with an afterburner, turn around, and try to spot him and get on his tail
when you are first person there are two boxes above the crossair one on the left and one on the right. the one on the left is speed and the one on the right is altitude
In the cockpit, to the left of the screen, the small box tells you the speed. The right is altitude.
It is useless to you, but to ground soldiers it is priceless because you are still spotting. The PS3 can't render that fast or that much, so you simply won't see them until you are really close. But, vehicles will pop up immediately.
@Bostonsoxboy 1)yes, it works with all jets 2) you don't know you just get used to the speed when you turn at around 315 enough just do it in first person till you get used to holding it without looking at the speedo
I will stop turning, only for a while, then turn brake the opposite side. this way, you'll find yourself practically face to face to your opponent and try to line up for a quick shot. If you fail, you can still try evasive maneuvers until you can get behind him again.
I have a tip for you. Xbox only. Use (Guided Missile). You can use this to see long distance spots and it will give you the general direction to attack and when the red pops up you will be in position to attack. Good Luck
@mummoforce ECM is useful BEFORE they shoot the stinger. Instead of Flares which dislocate the stinger. ECM is used before they shoot at u
thanks 1ron, at the begining I wasnt able to kill anyone with the jet, but then I found you and my jet got 20 stars now + I've reached my killstreak record 66-0! Btw I played against you once in the public alborz mountain, you were killing me repeatedly from the chopper with TV missle :P I bet you dont remember that though
@Sortsimies u see, when u flare 1 stinger, another one can lock u faster than 5 secs
Good tips. I've been using ECM a lot.
below radar is automatically equipped when you get into the jet. its not a glitch and does not need to be equipped, so your okay to use air radar.
but the thing with flares is that they can actually divert missiles that have been shot. with ecm, you have to use it every time someone locks onto you.
ecm is for using before you were locked on. flare is after you got locked and the missile was fired.
He is like in the top ten if not the worlds best bf3 jet pilot on the leader boards.... he is quite pro
for tightest turns your speed needs to be 305-310, but 312 is the sweetest spot
think about whenever you have chased a jet and you just couldnt hit them, do what they do. and if that doesnt work just fly straight into the air and stall
@windyfire18 depends on how far away ur target is, normally, u shoot around 0.5 cm under the 3d icon
You know what hurts me? after patch you won't dodge stingers like that. Also there's a tip that I can give for consol players: use guided not pods even though pods are better. If you want to kill infantry use guided's cam to locate them.

Console: Guided missile, for spotting ground units so that you can take them out easier.
PC: Rocket pods.
You jet guys always make it looks so easy..Then when i try it out my stats fucks up bad. Really nice vid btw
get to a fast speed (full acceleration + afterburners) then the a sharp brake-turn . i like to follow it up with a wide afterburner loop to further confuse my pursuer then if you loop backwards you can reverse the chase and get on his six.
the thing is if you have under/ground radar, people will not be able to lock onto you for 2-3 secs. If they already have a lock on you then it will break it.
Hold S for slowing and then Literally scape your jet along a flat surface which will slow it down faster and it will make the wheels come out!
Epic is the proper term to use here.

oh in this video for example. since you really dont know where they are, your best bet is to fly towards the battlefield, since thats where everybody is. (vs away). but remember, it could be air units locking on too
No problem mate :-) oh and btw, just make sure you are a little bit higher than him when you do the afterburner trick, cuz if you are going same hight as him you will destroy both of the planes, also if he tries to lock on you from behind, this trick (if you are lucky) can make him shoot himself with his own heat seekers! :-D Cheers mate
Love your flying. I just cant seem to be able to shake anyone off my tail lol. They come towards me, then I try to turn doing an up circle and he ends up behind me. Then its all downhill from there lol. Nice tips. Thanks..
Intuition. You pick up on these things, most players are repetitive and will attack from the same spots. Once you fly for quite a while you'll be able to guess where you're being locked from, this trick no longer works however, since the first patch, missiles will turn and hit you instead of just veering off.
from the battlefield (: if he is over the ocean and a missile is flying to him, he flys to the middle of the island or to the chopper.

You forgot to mention that the ECM jammer also makes you invisible on the radar for 5 seconds or something. ;) Nice video.
@Henners2908 it means before you turn brake down to 315km/h, your speed is in the top left of the screen, so that you can turn faster in a dogfight :)
Use the following setup : Air radar - ECM/flares ( I find flares better cause of patch but you can dodge stinger and heatseeker easily still so it's your choice.) and guided missles.
Guided missles plays a roll on consoles and that is, you can use it to spot normal infantry from a distance of likely more than 400-500m I think? Even more probably.
Ayway use it to spot infantry and then switch to main gun, it's pretty easy and good aim practice :P...
U can see your jet speed on the console. Its at the top left on cockpit view
PRO TIP 1:
- "Pro" means professional. Meaning if nobody pays you to play BF3, these are not Pro tips at all.
PRO TIP 2:
- 315 km/h is landing speed for most of jets. In reality an aircraft can hardly bank 10 degrees with this speed to maintain lift. Most of jets have optimal turn rate at about 700 km/h, which is about 377 nm (nautical miles - standard speed measure for aeronautics). I think we can conclude these are not in kmph at all, the measure is nm.
I don't know if this works for Xbox and/or PC but I noticed flying as close to the ground as possible when being locked on by enemy missiles breaks enemy lock. I don't know if this is a glitch but it comes handy when your flares or ECM jammer is on cooldown.
Another advantage of flying low to the ground is disappearing off enemy radar, which can come surprisingly useful when tied in with doing quick turns behind obstacles such as cliffs, buildings or the battle/cargo ships on kharg island.
the ecm over flares might change whenever they release this next patch as the flares will get rid of javs aswell as stingers and you won't be able to dodge stingers
@kryptikkk777 3D spot icon, slang for the little orange triangles that appears on normal setting servers when you use the spot function and aiming on enemy.
flares do give you few seconds of cover, not less than 1 sec, that doesnt change anything but i wanted to feel special :3
thanks, usually when i look up for these vids to see if i havent heard of something usefull i usually get the same crap... "you gotta aim INFRONT of the target mannnn...." but that missle dodging trick is awesome, and i actually used to think flares > ECMJ, and heres a tip for jets in particular: play IL2: Sturmovik, its mostly not jets, but I played it before bf3 came out and im guessing its 404's engine for that game that helped me be an overaverage jet pilot on this game
@irontjunfisk and when this next patch comes out, flares will only distract missiles, not cancel the lock on.
now you cant top that for a noob question guys.. spamming q works like this, play the game.. and press Q every second or so,i do it more often the that but the point is, pressing q everytime( not press it and hold it down) is you spot, spotting emans you know where to shoot at and if your any good, or your teammates are you/they kill the spotted enemy, simple!
Also, IF you are a fan of using full flight controls, I would suggest PC for its custom control surfaces.

If you fly at really low altitudes your hreat signature decreases, so you can't be locked on. Helps a lot after poping the ECM and flying away, of course on big maps with enough open space to do it like Caspian or Firestorm.
Aim under the 3D* icon.....the 'spot' icon is what he's talking about.Since the icon is above the soldier.You should aim under the icon.
I don't use ECM because if you hit to late the missiles will spin around you and when the ECM is done dispensing they hit you which is BS.
There is a reason why people hit it as soon as they are locked on and don't wait for people to fire. The reason is because stingers are expensive, and jet people are cool and environmentally friendly :)
I have a rush defensive and neutral setup for jets rush is faster locking perk, ecm'cuz its not bugged now and is 5 sec reload and it gets you off enemy air radar for 5 sec, heatseekers cuz its rush. Neutral is stealth, ecm, rocket pods or heatseeker. Defensive is air radar, ecm, guided missle. Usually goes on f35 cuz i like is main gun. Also i fly low to attack unless i use guided missle or rocket pods.
ECM is some kind of "flare" that stops devices from locking on to you. Search for it on youtube
I've done some research and watch alot of jet vids, apparently, for best results, people use a joystick, however, if that isn't available, Keyboard alone for the most part, but if u need to make precise shots against infantry and helicopters, u can switch to the mouse!

I still prefer flares to ECM. I don't feel so comfortable with missile dodging, and most of the time when you're getting locked, enemies won't actually shoot the missile. I prefer flares because you will use them only when you need to, and even after I deploy them i will just pull up to 450m + altitude and wait for them to reload. Also you can break locks by flying behind the objects/terrain. Only time I'd switch to ECM, would be when enemy team would get mad and try to soflam/javelin combo me
use throttle up/down and aferburners to maintain it. there is no 'cruise control' on bf3 jets.

try binding "nose up" to a key on your keyboard it made a huge difference for me
When you fly dont press the accelarator button ALL the time, when your chasing someone in an endless circle, try brake turning, that way you wouldnt fly past them. about dog fighting, if the other jet (enemy) is flying in a straight line you can just aim and shoot, but if he flys to the right or to the left, aim head or above the jet cuz the bullets take time to reach the target, remember this is Battlefield, not Call of duty.
@Toddiz29 ja :) 5s laddningstid istället för flares som har 10s. Och sen räcker ECM i 5s ungefär också. Och Flares bara i ca 1.
intuition and guess work usually, it is very difficult to actually see the smoke trail from the missile
I just have to say thanks a lot dude. I didn't know about the missile part and where you could doge it easily I always got pissed off at those when 3 or 4 Engineers were staring to get pissed at me.
Migrate to PC version. I know you probably heard this many times, but when I went out to buy BF3 I took my time choosing for PC or Xbox. Biggest thing that made me choose PC was the graphics and the fact you can play with so many other people. The current generation consoles can only handle 24 players, which is way too little for you to really get out of the game what it was designed for. Plus, with PC you can get better graphics to help you in your problem there.
use keyboard to do manuevers and stuff but when you line up or go into dogfight, keep your mouse in hand

You can't know it you have to guess
You cant change mesh quality but you can see your jets speed, its the same as PC when your in the cockpit view, the speed is in either the box on the left or right not sure...
ECM can mislead any missile if it hits the chaff cloud that the ECM creates on your tail. You must be skilled or lucky to let it happen, but it's possible ^^
the thing is you do not equip below radar, once you unlock it, it'll always be there.
Next time look for below radar in the selection panel, tell me if u find it, u wont. go do some research, you'll see. (sorry if that sounded kinda rude, no offense intended)
Hey, I have a question. My computer can't hold decent frames when I set my resolution to 1600x900 so I drop it down to I think 1280x700 or something similar that has an aspect ratio close to 1600x900.
Am I possibly at a significant disadvantage, especially when it comes to jets?

@Icanize on xbox it's the "back" button. I dont know for PS3, but I guess its "select"...
166 point spread at the start of the video, only 78 points at the end. They were gaining ground during the entire video.
when smb is locking on you, you hear a sound when the missles are launched you hear another sound.

Put 1st person and look at the number on the left rectangle, that number is your speed in km/s.
Quick questions:
1) Does the missile evasion work in Rush jets (Thunderbolt/Frogfoot), too?
2) How do you know when you're at 315 km/h when using the 3rd person camera? Any visual clues?
Pro Tip: if your having trouble taking out infantry use rocket pods (never us heat seekers)
i play on low 1280*720p and get 45-50 fps avg but when i fly i get knocked out easily because of lag ....also the enemies are not visible from above
@MoxieTS i usually try to get low an go into the tres on caspian border or somehow get away really low far out of the map an turn around to see where they are all flying at but somtimes the see me then i get shot an jump out only to suicide lol works somtimes... but thats for the tip on turning into the missle that helped a lot !!
Top left in first person it goes from 0-450 (i think) 310, as he said is the best speed.
