Heard this song in “10 Things I Hate About You” movie with Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger. What an amazing talent and beautiful song. How have I never heard of this AMAZING singer? I will be looking for more from her…she is fantastic!
It's a very personal song for me. I got involved with an older woman some years back and she used to play this to me. She wasn't in a relationship as such, but her previous relationship was still hard for her to let go of. In the end I backed out, not out of any moral reasoning, but more for selfish reasons.
I have just seen 10 things I hate about you, and heard this song; now I just found this from 2 years ago AND GOSH HER AMAZING VOICE AND MUSICAL TALENT ON THE PIANO BLOWED MY MIND 🤯. REALLY WHAT EXTRAORDINARY VOICE SHE HAS AFTER ALL THESE YEARS ❤
"Are you so strong or is the weakness in me? Waking from tormented sleep." Two of my favourite lines ever. An absolutely mesmerising performance. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Though officially retired from touring, I hope Ms. Armatrading still does mini tours....she is on my bucket list to see her one more time in concert before leaving this planet.
I remember seeing her at the Albert Hall in about 1980. Her voice and songs are something we never hear these days. They are beautiful, sensitive, touching and sung with the most wonderful voice. She really stands out yet I don’t think she was appreciated enough.
Come across this lady on a music channel playing 80s music, had to ask me dad who she was and why shes not a household name, he said she was amazing, great voice and artist. Criminally underrated. Seems like she still got it. Fantastic artist. Go Joan 👌
I wish I could remember how I first hear her; you say '69; mine was a wee bit earlier. My parents were worried because I'd pick up the needle and play this song over and over. Still makes me cry. Massive talent and magnificent woman, Joan Armatrading.
Wonderful just wonderful Joan one of the greatest artists the uk has ever produced! Exceptional singer songwriter not enough airplay for this legend shame on you, give us more please
I heard a busker doing it on Broadway Market in London maybe 5 or 6 years ago and it took me right back to being a child and watching / listening to my mum listen to it in her living room. I gave some money and asked him if he'd be so kind to play it again....and I think that's as close as anyone could come to nailing a cover of this song.
1 dislike, WTF? Do people just dislike stuff for the sake of it? Even if your not a fan of this type of music surely you can still appreciate a wonderful talent, she is a master of her craft and this is masterful.
Amazing! A beautiful friend introduced me to Joan's music in the late 70's and she continues to be my # 1 fav of all time! Through all my up times and down times ... Joan has been there. My life would not be complete without the sounds of Joan Armatrading! Much love and respect to you Lady J 💖
Love this I related to this song back in 1990 and always wonder what if?I had chosen another life with another person,I guess now I will never know but it still cuts deep sometimes…..and you can’t help wonder…..
I got to know this song, from the movie "10 Things I Hate About You". Since then, I've been in love with this lyrics, what a beautiful thing. Even more so, in this version.❤️
Thank you from the depths of my heart and soul for your lyrics, voice and music Joan. You’ve made life so much better for so many of us with your poetry.
I'm here to tell you, that Joan is as good as it gets!!! And always has been. Love her and have all of her recordings. I remember when she first hit the scene and she still sounds great and is an absolutely fantastic songwriter.
This song hit me when I watched 10 things and I at first thought it was tracy chapman but now I find myself listening to a new talented artist wow I do love her conviction in this song.
Can you believe that this lady sings and looks like this at 70! A living legend.
Daniel have loved her for almost 40 yrs❤.
As I have. Didn't catch on in USA like She should have, but nevertheless she continues to put out terrific music.
I saw her play 45 years ago at Berkeley High School (venue in US) drove 5 hours to see her.
Does not get any better; the woman's a superstar.
This has been making me cry for 40 years now xxxx
Probably the best song about the frustration of split attraction ever written - a timeless masterpiece.

Damn.... this song and her voice make me cry every time.
me too...
Yes. Every time. Which is a hundred times by now. It’s the weakness in me.
Incredible artists like Joan don't need much. Just give them a piano or a guitar, and the show is "On!"
Same, so brilliantly written just beautiful
Wow! She's still got it! An under-estimated, under-recognised legend! I want more! ❤
"Are you so strong or is the weakness in me? Waking from tormented sleep."
Two of my favourite lines ever. An absolutely mesmerising performance. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

This song literally always makes me cry. She sounds so heartbroken.
First saw JA live supporting Supertramp in 1975 at the Birmingham Odeon. She blew them off the stage. Been a massive fan ever since!!

An emotional song about a difficult real-life conundrum.
