I had the same problem with my .223 shell plate. cases would tip even without the spring. Was thinking it was the same problem you're having here but before I called Hornady I took the shell plate off and sanded the lip of the base plate down with a dremmel. that is where it was catching and it seems to have fixed the issue as it works well for me now.

Thank you so much, found others that have had the same issue. I have become extremely frustrated, and I am glad there is a solution.

I wonder if the thickness difference was playing a role where my .223 would seat different depths depending if I was running a single case or multiple. With 9mm I am using 3D printed case feeder and once in a while the case would tip but for the most part it's fine, it just might be there is too much play in the plastic part that pushes the case.

The brand new #16 I got was .002 to .003" thicker in each slot. As far as I know, standard shell holder (single stage) floor to deck height is exactly .125. I've measured and antique rcbs and it was dead on .125. I just sent mine back for inspection and got it back in the same condition. They never touched it. They just wiped off the sharpie writing. I think they have too many pans in the fire right now

Lucky you, they did nothing for me.

Maybe 7 years late, but think I see a width difference in the center slot? That might cause miss alignment. In the third plate it looks like the center slot is thinner.

I see the video is very old but still. Does noone else have the problem with cases tilting inward when indexing to station five so that the case mouth collides with the mouth of the crimp die instead of entering it? If you place a tall case ie .357mag with a bullet seated and watch it while slowly indexing the shellplate through all five stations, does not your case tilt inwards when indexing to fifth station? This is a problem on both my ap's in several different calibers, this is the biggest problem with the ap and have ruined many cases

I may be 2 years late, but did you ever find a fix for the case tipping at the last station? I just got a LNL and am having this issue.

@@scottpaic I'm sorry to see you have the same problem. I never found a solution to the problem, a workaround however is to use a dillon crimp die in station 5 since the dillon has a generously beveled die mouth on the crimp die so that the cartridge sneaks in there even though it is tilted.. The spring that retains the cases on the shellplate dives down in the groove on the shellplate carrier when the case enters station 5, to prepare for case ejection, that causes the spring to dive under the rim of the case and lifts it up causing the case to tilt inwards.. Have tried with delaying the spring dive by filling the start of that grove with i.e. jb weld or some tape, but delaying it too much causes other problems so I have not been able to find the sweet spot.. Another problem I also have is that the finished cartridge not always ejects from from the shellplate and locks up the press. It is highly suggested to use a stopwasher in combination with the normal washer for the bolt that holds down the shellplate, to keep it from coming loose, but it has not solved the problem.. With manual indexing and one station less one might not think of a dillon 550 as an upgrade but it is in fact an upgrade and I achieve much higher productivity on the 550 since it always works compared to the frustrating lnl ap.. I have thought of redesigning the case retention system of the lnl ap with some sort of 3d printed parts to replace the spring retainer, but have not bothered since I moved on to the 550.. Good luck and sorry for not being able to be more of a help.

@@MrTrollHunter thanks for responding. To bad you never found a fix, I wonder if Hornady is aware of this issue and if they have came up with anything yet.
I’m glad you have found success and are happy with the 550, once again thanks for responding

@@scottpaic I just discussed this problem in a different video, and got a tip of using an o-ring in stead of the retainer spring. I have not tried this yet, so I don't know if it will work, just wanted to let you know in case it helps

I had case tipping last night and just adjusted the cam wire up about a eighth of an inch. If you’re putting the plates in exactly how seen in the video (the part you’re pointing at being the top) then they’re upside down. The balls should be on the bottom.
