    An interesting video, Sarah. The Templars were an interesting case of religious over-reaching in a time when the Church had lost a lot of its influence in France and Philip could walk all over them with no real danger of papal retaliation. I think there was a pope in Avignon at that time. Anyway, we visited the Hospitaller headquarters in Valetta some years ago. Very impressive!

    The Templar’s where the 2nd 3rd sons of the king that were booted out of the castle as the first born son got the lot

      In England the law did favor the eldest. Occasionally the second son received something, depending. In Wales, of course, all sons inherited equally, even if they were illegitimate, as long as the father acknowledged them.
