- WhiskyJason reviews Craigellachie aged 19 years Batch 04-6140 Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky Review by
The Craigellachie distillery still uses traditional copper Worm Tubs. This original bottling was aged for over 19 years in ex-bourbon casks and was post-matured in 50% first-fill sherry casks and 50% first-fill bourbon casks.

I do appreciate your take on how this Craigellachie 19 came to be.
Retailers in CA are asking upwards of $259 for it. Ridiculous..!!!
I picked up a bottle of the Bas Armagnac finished expression and I must admit it has grown on me quite a bit. Good stuff.
I still prefer the normal Craigellachie 13 to the Bas Armagnac
"19 year old has to be better than 17 yo! Not necessarily as i am demonstrating right now"
I like your humility there😂!
It's only a matter of taste Jason, you have always prefered the 17, even over the 23 and i know plenty of well respected tasters who would beg to differ!
Thanks for the review though, Craigellachie prices are getting ridiculous, got to agree with you on that part!
Craigellachie 23!
whisky prices are getting ridiculous :-(
I remember Ralfy reviewed the 17 year old version and after scoring it 91 points, the price jumped up an extra £30.
the Ralfy effect :-(
Great comments Jason. have you ever had a 100% ex-bourbon Craigellachie? I found a G&M CC CS bottling and being a huge Craigellachie fan I'm ready to pounce. It's 20 years old and it is 127 euro in my local market (Alberta Canada).
Mosty independetly bottled Craigellachie that I have tried were not that great. Bu9t your bottle sounds interesting - Happy New Year!!
I saw you posted your German review of this weeks ago and was hoping we would get one in English😁 Thank you as you have saved me some money! Love your reviews and have my fingers crossed that you review the Glencadam 15 oloroso.
Serge Valentin never gave Craigellachie 13 more than 79, still i bought it and actually liked it a lot.
no plan for the Glencadam 15 oloroso at the moment - sorry
I've tasted the 13 yr and I think remember enjoying it. I own the 23 yr and I do not enjoy it! You want to talk about SULFUR. It even says SULPHURY flavors on the label. This bottle will remain in my bar for quite some time. Great review.
One day you will love it :-)
@@WhiskyMystery Not until that Sulphury note goes away.
@@keithpetersen560 haha. Love the 23
I also have major problems with SULPHURY flavors
I have never seen the 19 year old, I agree with you that the 17 is the key in the series and even that is expensive in Canada... I am finding that age does not work in many cases.
Craigellachie 17 is great - but the Craigellachie 13 is the better value for money
I had the 19 once and i remember it being amazing, but it was independent bottled from Gordon & Macphail so possibly different. I never tried 17 but now im very interested
Craigellachie 17 is a must try in my opinion - but the Craigellachie 13 is the better value for money
Very interesting....mo money for lipstick on a pig...
well said!
@@WhiskyJason1 it's a really good lesson here. I love the 13, especially because it was very cheap here in the US up until last year. It's as if we were buying old stock.
I have 23 & 17, both were fairly priced. But I know they command big numbers sometimes.
I would only hope that I would see the red flags and hesitate before buying something like this. I'm looking at an 11 year CS indie for $69. Seems like a great value.?
I saw on another website this and 2 other different 11 year Craigellachie's for $79-110. All the same vintage...wtf?
good questions
How sad. I am not a fan of 'Grey' oak
grey oak - interesting
you should have tried the 23yo😂 F-- whisky
