I have a Swiss champ, a mini champ , a climber and an Alox pioneer x, normally carry the Swiss champ. I find that when I don’t have the Swiss champ I need one of the tools that aren’t on my daily carry!
I've carried victorinox for 25 years. The explorer, deluxe tinker, executive, cyber tool M, Hercules, one hand trekker. One thing I can say is I have never really needed the saw, but I hear so many people say is such a necessity 😂
I use the saw whenever I am in the yard doing work. Sawing off roots or small branches. Also a saw is great for making notches. But you are right, many people do not use the saw. Thanks for comment. I am sorry I replied so late.
@@SubUrbanNinja-EDC I have an avocado tree and a lemon tree... I tried to cut branches once with the trekker... I stopped after 10 minutes and got a proper saw 😂
@@NJRey Haha...I know what you mean. But sometimes I am so lazy to walk to the garage to get a regular saw, I use the SAK or Leatherman saw I have on me. Yeah, probably just faster to walk to the garage and get the saw. But sometimes the SAK or Leatherman saw works fine.
I use the saw a lot while gardening and doing lawn work, mostly removing roots and vines. I have more than one SAK, though, and don't carry one with a saw on a daily basis. My grandfather used a SAK with a saw for whittling and used the saw to harvest a piece of wood or to trim it to the right size. You know what's weird? I hardly ever use the scissors even though it's one of everybody's favorites.
@@shawnpatrick1877 I use the saw to cut off a piece of branch for whittling too. One time I was helping my father in law trimming some bushes and we tried to remove one but didn't have a saw to cut the root. That day, I only had a pocket knife. Since then, I never carry a multi tool without a saw.
I agree that belt carry is the way to go with the Swiss Champ. I carry a compact for social events, like parties, though - it always impresses and never intimidates! But I'm most comfortable when I have my Swiss champ. The Walker is an amazing knife.
I used to carry ( belt ) a SwissChamp. I hardly ever used half the tools. So I started carrying the Deluxe Tinker ( w/ Plus scales ). I regulated my SwissChamp for my hiking/camping knife. Great video! Keep up the great work! 👍👍
I highly recommend you get one and put it in your check in luggage when you go to Taiwan. It is basicallly a micro tool box for all your hobby and utility needs. Being in a foreign country temporarily, you are not going to run to the hardware store to buy tools to get things done. It has a metal file for cutting metal too. A Swiss champ and a good compact pair of pliers like the Knipex would do a lot of the tasks you need done.
My Swisschamp fits in my 5th pocket no problem and as it's held snug there it doesn't bounce around or move so it's easy to carry...but I still carry other SAKs too, like today I'm carrying my Climber with plus scales and pocket clip, a Knipex Cobra XS, and a Wera bit driver (about the same size as a Bic lighter) plus a lighter in my 5th pocket. Other days it's my Farmer X (I put a pocket clip on that too) with the Knipex & bit driver. I have more but I tend to rotate between those 3 most of the time. But you're right, the Champ covers all bases.
I have swisschamp in a black lether pouch so it is easy to carry in the belt.❤and the pouch is victorinox product and its very cool and its cost in europe like 22€ so i live in finland.
This video is spot on! I've been geeking out hard this year with EDC with lots of exoerimenting and keep coming back to the Swiss Champ. It's incredibly solution-dense. Most my shorts and pants have a small pocket that this fits perfectly and I barely notice it. I often pair it with a leatherman bit kit (the one with the adapter for their models without a bit driver). That mounts perfectly to the champ's straight screwdriver on the back. Throw in the knipex xs cobra pliers (that fit in my wallet) and you are beyond plier-based multitool capability with less weight.
And I ACTUALLY use the fish scaler for lots of non-fishing stuff. It's a great longish pokey thing which has good general use. It's also a good depth gage and it's a good cardboard saw (especially for kids).
If you want to go thin, light weight and functional you could also go for the Bantam. It just has the knife and the combo tool. The combo tool is awesome. It's Flat head, cross head, bottle opener, can opener, wire stripper, prying tool. Even used it to tighten an ikea imbus screw. It's an awesome tool. The waiter is the same but with a corkscrew and strangely enough 1 euro cheaper in the Netherlands
Nice video - subscribed. I happen to EDC a Cybertool S on my belt, and a Midnite Manager on my keys/in my pocket. The MM replaced my flashlight and provides my pen solution. When I'm working in the garden, I have my Ranger Grip 71 Gardener. When traveling, i try to find a themed Victorinox knife as a souvenir.
I have a Rambler for daily carry, Huntsman for hiking/camping. I added bright yellow hi-vis Plus scales to my Huntsman, opened up the 4th tool slot for a small toothpick, as it’s original space is taken by the ferro rod, and second pinhole for a sewing needle.
Very interesting. Although I have the Huntsman, I am now leaning to the Ranger. Suggestion, mount the camera. A bouncy camera is very annoying. Also with a bouncy camera, and you lifting the knife up and down, where do we focus?
The main blade position is kind of awkward, a bit too much to hold comfortably. But I get it, this is a great knife, no doubt. I prefer my Ranger, less rarely used knick-knacks and still pleasant to hold. Just my two cents worth here. Great video.
Great video thanks. Like they say the best Victorinox is the one you carry in your pocket. But what if you also carry one on your belt? I EDC the Handyman hanging off my belt into into my pocket. I EDC the Swiss Champ XLT on my belt. It is the best of both worlds as when my Swiss Champ XLT SAK is to big for a task I just use my Handyman SAK. And when my Handyman SAK does not have a tool I need I just use my Swiss Champ XLT that has almost every tool. Sometimes I EDC my backpack where I also EDC extra SAK's. The Midnite Mini Champ, Alox Harvester, Champion Plus, CyberTool M, SAK Skipper and Ranger Grip 79 with locking blade & big saw. You can never have to many SAK's as they are to fun.
9:35 Here you say the Swiss Champ covers everything, yet later 10:12 you say that you carry a Spyderko as well! Huh? For that matter, and for the weight of those two knives you could just as well carry a Hercules, with its 4" locking blade (and including 17 other tools!). I have carried my Swiss Champ for decades, and it has done tons of work. However, if one is contemplating whether to buy a pliers-based multi-tool or a multi-tool knife you have to settle one BASIC question first - "Am I really, really going to need a full size pliers?" If the answer is "Yes! I can't do without it!", then the answer is get a pliers-based multi-tool, and there are tons of them on the market, including the Victorinox Swiss Tool! Then you can have fun deciding on which one to buy. Sorted! If the answer is: "No, I can get by with something less robust." then you have to go a bit deeper. In my case, I already have a Swiss Champ. If I was buying new, I'd ask what my greatest need is, and that is probably, going outdoors. With what I know now, I would not even hesitate - I'd go for the Hercules! Don't get me wrong! That would definitely not be the only tool I'd take. I'd in any case have a belt knife (Cold Steel SRK), and a large knife (Cold Steel Trail Master, which I also have). As you have probably worked out already, I do not believe in the whole "only-one-tool" nonsense. One prepares properly and part of that is having the right tools, for example a saw! And the right kind of cutting tools. I'd love to share ideas about this. Cheers mate!
It is my fault for not clarifying why I said the Swiss Champ does everything but then I still carry a Spyderco and other knives. All of the blades have a different purpose. I only use the Swiss Champ blade for food stuff and tasks that are not toxic. The Spyderco blade I use for my hobbies and only on occasions I need a super sharp blade. My Ontario Rat One, I use as my beater knife to save the edges of my Swiss Champ and Spyderco blades. Far as pliers base vs Swiss Champ. Here is an example. I worked at a place where I carried my Swiss Champ. One day I had to straighten up a bent up locker door so it would shut properly. I needed a plier. So the next day, I left the Swiss Champ home and wore my Leatherman. I fixed tbe locker with the Leatherman and I decided to carry the Leatherman at work. Then several days later, I kept needing scissors and a smaller pliers of the Swiss Champ. This made me realize something and I decided to carry the Swiss Champ and a pair of Knipex pliers. I appreciate your recommendations on the Hercules. I will study it. Thanks!
@@SubUrbanNinja-EDC No problem at all mate! Your experience mirrors mine! For many years I carried both a Leatherman Wave and an SAK, and carried my 8 1/2" blade Bushwhacker! But, yeah, the Hercules is really nice! 👍
Never owned or held one before but from looking at it, I would say it belongs on a tool belt, glove box, tool box, or kitchen drawer. Plus it really does not add any special tools like magnifying glass, parcel hook, fish degouger. Swiss champ is the perfect size and number of tools for edc. Nothing beats à victorinox fieldmaster, in my book, it's the perfect size for edc and the right toolset
For me as a photographer, pliers are more useful than a saw, for me is the deluxe tinker
On Amazon they usually come in a blister pack, from Victorinox they come in the famous silver box!
All of my Victorinox I got from Amazon was in the silver box. The blister pack of the Walker is from SMKW.
