That is the funny thing here. With the Land Rovers it is "do this, do that, do the third thing, get a perfect line." With the Suburban it is more like "yeah, if it gets stuck, we'll deal with it, otherwise who cares."

I negotiated this trail in a Duramax. Not just a stock Duramax, an overland Duramax with a camper shell on the back of it. Now to put a 6.6 into my Tahoe and Suburban, and turn them into overlanding machines :)
Hey, just curious I’ve done plenty of off-roading in my suburban in Texas mainly desert and dunes though, just last month I rebuilt my transmission fully and also got a 06 5.3 motor swapped from my old 01 5.3 which it originally had but most of my off-roading has been in the desert nothing with trees and rocks as such, so my question is what kind of lift do you think would be best for over landing? I had ordered a 6in lift and planned on putting 35s by 12.50 with 17in wheels but I’m thinking now would a 4in lift be just as good? because I plan on putting a pop up tent on my roof rack for camping out in the surrounding areas where I live which would be New Mexico, Colorado and other parts of Texas I haven’t been to yet, what would you consider since it seems you’ve been through the woods with rocks of that size? My 01z71 Suburban as it sits right now has 285/70/17 with just a torsion keys so it’s leveled out and does great just as yours but I want a bit more to it now, I also plan on putting a snorkel on it now that I’ve swapped the motor out and with the old one I went through so much mud and water and it didn’t give it out at all but it was hurting after a while and I didn’t want to rebuild it so I swapped it out instead. I’ll also re gear the axles this month or the upcoming possibly, But any input you may have would be appreciated.
I have a tahoe with a 3 inch lift and I live in Arkansas (trees, mud, etc) and it handles it well. I know a guy who lives in Utah who put a 6 inch and 37s on his yukon xl and it takes everything like a champ. If you already installed the 6 shoot me back a response and tell me how you like it. If you get the snorkel added tell me how it goes because I've been wanting one but it's hard being that no one makes them.
I have a 03 with 5.3 supercharged. 6in lift 35 12.50 20s. Custom front bumper with winch. Goes where I want. Love my burban! Check out dirtnation on TH-cam we do lots of trails desert/mountain and rock crawling. Diverse group of rigs. Stay safe man
Does your Z71 have the G80 locking diff? It looks like it does at 6:08. Very cool. I just bought a 02 Z71 in white just like yours (equipped with the Eaton locker) and I'm looking forward to getting it out on the trails after it's fully sorted and has better tires.
@Dboii Nasty Your option paragraph of codes in your glovebox will have a "G80" as a part of the series if you have the locking G80 Eaton diff. I'm not positive if non-Z71 trucks could get it, maybe they could. I'd have to research it. A good test is to climb a steep hill or cross a a ditch at a 45 degree angle in 2WD until you lift a rear wheel off the ground or it totally loses traction. Give it enough gas to get the free wheel spinning. If you hear a loud click and the wheel stops spinning and the axle locks it to the opposite wheel enabling you to keep climbing without wheelspin, you have it. If the free wheel spins freely, there's no locker.
@Dboii Nasty Look in the glove box there is a sticker that has random numbers and letters... look for combos like g80 , gt4 .... if you see those then you have the locking gears ....

The Suburban was probably carrying everything else the Land Rovers couldn't and it has a resale value.
