    I must say I have been fortunate to come across this amazingly meaningful documentary. Being a Cape Verdian ( at heart) since 1985, having visited all the islands, having read most books that came out on Cape Verde ever since ... has enrichened me immensely and so has this documentary. Thank you.

    I love this documentary but I think it’s very sad that they were taught not to intermingle with African Americans not realizing that a lot of African-Americans are Afro Portuguese as well and the only difference between them and us is that we were brought all the way to the US first as slaves.I am Afro Portuguese in ancestry but I’m proud to be black American.

      Did you hear the part on this documentary that the early Capeverdeans did try to be part of the African Americans in the area through church attendances etc but were somewhat rejected and that’s why we started our own churches? We have all been affected by yte supremacy and that’s unfortunate but now that we are all learning together, we are becoming more united I believe 🙏🏽❤️ thanks God!

      Lol 😂 😂😂😂 Stop lying!! Africans Americans do not have Portuguese ancestry like Cape Verdeans and Brazilians. Most of your people European ancestry come from British and irish people. You people want to be Latinos so bad.

    • @char08fal
      @char08fal 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Same for me (well partial), we have some Portuguese, Spanish, Basque-Spanish & French and of course Scottish and Irish in terms of Europe. But it also turns out that some of my original maternal ancestors were either in Cabo Verde or came through Cabo Verde and sent to the colony of Louisiana. My direct maternal lineage is traced back to Senegambia and I have talked to some of my dna cousins from Cabo Verde about our origins. But I also have a friend whose family was owned by Portuguese in NC, so we're definitely all connected.

    cape verdeans were also used during colonial times to do some things on behalf of portuguese gov. in other parts of africa that other africans refused, violent stuff.

    • @amunetbahiti9084
      @amunetbahiti9084 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      May I ask what was your deeply held intention of your comment? You are preaching to the choir when it comes to our history. Just like there weren’t any perfectly obedient slave or indentured servant in the Americas the same happened to us Capeverdeans. Imagine being the first ever miscegenated group of people in the Atlantic and being forced and brainwashed to not identify with your African side from early childhood. It’s funny that many AA justifies the ills and mishaps of other people of color but when it comes to us Capeverdeans it becomes grounds to hate us and treat us indifferent. Just know that we are aware and watching to this day going forward.
