As others have said not a great guitarist but that doesn’t matter at all IMO. Two great strengths- first a very gifted songwriter. Second one of the greatest fronts (man or woman) of all time. Great visually, fantastic vocal stylist and 110% spot on attitude. You know she’s trouble but also vulnerable. She owns herself in a way few people do.

I bought this album as a teenager when it debuted, on 8 Track no less, and then again on cassette when the 8 track inevitably gave up the ghost. For a long time I couldn't figure out what this song was really about -- many of the lines strongly indicated that this was about a rape, but I just always assumed that Chrissie was probably a pretty hardcore feminist, I always kind of make that assumption when I see a woman from her era kicking butt so thoroughly in an area that was still quite male dominated at the time. Due to that assumption I was really puzzled by the lines that indicated that she accepted much of the responsibility for the incident, something that i never imagined a strong feminist saying. I'm still really puzzled by her acceptance of the incident, i can't imagine anyone coming through an experience like that with that same assessment, but I'm really impressed by her courage to speak her mind and her toughness. To be able to get through that and come out the other side with that attitude, and then be able to go out and accomplish what she has, man, she is STRONG.
She teased biker-gang types as a teen. They "pulled a train" on her. It is a humble-brag (jntra sex) on her part. ...Demonstrates that she can attract the best (of her locally-shaped mind space) and can hack it ('cause she's a bad ass).

For girls who had a similar experience this was a life saving song due to the shaming of SA victims. She also got some heat for explaining her experience in her book while on her book tour. It was heartbreaking to witness as a lifetime fan. She is the first feminist of rock. She laid the groundwork for alt Rock as it's called now. Female's didn't lead a band and sing with compleat raw emotion that called for the downthrow of sexism and patriarchy! I ❤️ Chrissy 4 Eva!

FINALLY! After years here of having to watch an old VHS taped off of MTV, transferred to DVD and posted by a fan, we actually can see this as it was intended. Love the wallpaper, so evocative of a small British neighborhood bar, or even a house party.
I became a Pretenders fan from the first time I heard them. RIP to James Honeyman-Scott and Peter Farndon. Both died much too young and just when the band was hitting its stride.
There was no other band quite like these guys, you can hear the 50's fluences of Rock n Roll, Punk and I believe these guys started Alt Rock. RIP James and Pete, imagine what could have been damn shame!

This is the 1st video I ever saw. It was on a show called the Midnight Special- hosted by Wolfman Jack. It bent my mind back there in 1980.. I don't think I ever recovered.. I love their individual 'behind the screen' breakdowns.. 1:20
When I bought the second car I ever owned around 80-81 from a guy in my neighborhood we were negotiating the deal when I noticed he had big stacks of Albums all about his Apt. and I noticed he had the first Pretenders album. I half jokingly said throw the album in and we have a deal. So he did and That’s how I acquired this song and album and still have it scratch’s and all.And still one of my all-time favorites.

The way that guitar hook/lick ties the rhythm and the melody together..and the sound of that Boss Chorus...whew JHS had touch...can't think of a much better album for melodic guitar runs...so catchy.
Chrissy is one of the top if not the top female vocalists in rock. What she lacks in range she more than makes up with attitude, passion and feel and she is an amazing songwriter too. One of the last of the “old school” rock stars but still the best
Still one of my all-time faves. In the 1980s, I had a collection of mix-tapes all called, "Playloud. This is not a test" and Tattooed Love Boys often opened them (along with I Don't Know What You're Talking About" or "TV Eye"). I was devastated, tho, when I found out Chrissy's true story behind "Tattooed Love Boys". This woman KICKED ASS!
Hard to imagine how the early 80's has morphed into 2022. Nevertheless, The Pretenders are as powerfully hip now as they ever were. Truly Great Music stands the test of time!!!

about 4 beers into a 2 hour stint of getting the kitchen in order is when I usually would start repeating this song over and over back in the day. I miss those days...........I'm someone if I ever did Coke I would have liked it too much. As a guitarist and songwriter myself........I love James Honeymann-Scott guitar on this, they never did songs likes this without him and James Farndon. Makes me think they were the edge to this sound along with the explosive drumming.

The amount of musicians we've lost to drugs is criminal. Jimmy and Pete could and should still be touring with Chrissie.

James Honeyman-Scott was one of my favorites at the time. Right up there with all the great British rock guys

about 4 beers into a 2 hour stint of getting the kitchen in order is when I usually would start repeating this song over and over back in the day. I miss those days...........I'm someone if I ever did Coke I would have liked it too much. As a guitarist and songwriter myself........I love James Honeymann-Scott guitar on this, they never did songs likes this without him and James Farndon. Makes me think they were the edge to this sound along with the explosive drumming.

Chrissie lived a hard life. This song was written for what she endured - and if wasn't good. But she survived & persevered.
I had a friend from Akron that hung with the Chain Gang motorcycle club. Rough.

The Pretenders "Learning to Crawl" tour was my first concert. THANK GOD. AND Stevie Ray Vaughan and the Alarm opened for them! In Williamsburg VA in 1983
