    For the negative comments about being easy targets for the enemy. This is ceremonial. Furthermore, Haka has been performed prior to assaults in cover. All men can have fear but haka (especially war parties) are actually invoking an ancient God of War. Men in the past performing these things knew full well that they will probably die in an assault but invoking the god will give them the best chance of success. I personally would not want to test an assault formation after they have performed one especially when the Haka has fully possessed them for battle in combination with Tumatauenga and excellent leadership. Just my 5 cents.

      unicorn magic was also performed at night time when enemy soldiers were resting. Imagine waking up in the middle of the night hearing these guys all in numbers getting ready to kill.

      Ancient Maori Toa (Warriors) understood to die in combat was an honourable ending. So running away from battle was considered the lowest action one could do in the face of death. If your enemy came to have you for lunch. What is there left do? But fight to the very end.

      People are just dumb. Think about it in the ancient context, dark night, thick vegetation and you start to hear this stuff, north of a thousand men stamping their feet and chanting, with the mountainside echoing every single decibel.... Your pants would pee their invisible pants man😂😂😂😂😭😭😭😂❤️

      There is more tradition in the act of war among my people, the act of a haka is the end of the process, the start of this process is called Te Takapau Wharanui o Tū-kai-tauā, the dedication to Tū Devourer of War Parties. Our warriors would go through a process of tohi and pure to prepare them for death, that death was preferable than shame and cowardice, because we traditionally for our wives, our children and our homes, which made us men fight all that much harder. Our women used to weave tatua, or war belts, which was their way of giving us permission to die on the battlefield and that we took their love with them, many of our laments are composed by women who lost their men or sons in battle, and that is how our warriors were immortalised. We had what was called atua kahukahu, or talisman, that would be carried into battle and incite our warriors into extraordinary feats of bravery and daring, unfortunately, much of this tradition hasn't been practiced, because tagged on to this tradition is the feasting on your enemy's flesh, and cooking prisoners and eating them, this is against the Geneva Convention and would give us an unfair advantage in the fear stakes LOL

    My uncles fought in the 28th Maori Battalion against the finest that Nazi Germany put in the field, in North Africa. Haka were always performed prior to combat engagements and always just before dawn. Across no man's land close enough to the German lines too, just so they knew who and what was coming next. Incidentally, bayonet was a favourite weapon of the Maori in close quarters combat.

      It is with regret that NZ participated in that idiotic campaign.
      It was a half-baked attempt to end a war that was meant to have ended 6 months previously
      Churchill and Kitchener underestimated the Turkish resolve to preserve their homeland.
      I have heard stories of the Te Hokowhitu a Tu (the Pioneer Maori Battalion that was at Gallipoli) performing haka but it was not their primary role.
      They were pioneers, not shooters.
      But they got to do both.

    Haka is a necessary part of soldiering. It serves it purpose of lifting the fighting spirit. The haka worked its magic for the Maaori Pioneer Battalion as they put the fear into the Turks from atop Rhododendron Ridge on their way up to Chunuk Bair, Gallipoli. Sure our lads took Chunuk Bair the first time but then lost it later, along with a few good men, but that haka worked its magic and got our lads primed to fight even though death was certain.

    Where and when did the haka originate, and what are they saying? They are fierce, and would certainly encourage me to run the other way! Its amazing that such a large group could all be in synch and perform better than some large practiced performing companies! Awesome!

    • @DonW1953
      @DonW1953 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Every tribe (Iwi) has their own haka that relates to their history (Whakapapa) which goes back millennium, haka and other ceremonial customs are learnt by the children before they can walk so they grow up watching learning and participating, the haka comes from the heart, there is no need to practice because it is inside you and your heart, if you see a haka performed by a group of adults, it will make the hair on your neck stand up, it is awesome and you can feel the performers full emotion because they give it their all, I am a kiwi born Samoan and have total respect for my other island brothers and my Maori brothers, we all have one thing that connects us, the oceans that we sailed on thousands of years ago to get to our homes, the haka is a war dance and it does strike fear in enemies that hear it, in war it is done behind cover to make the enemy shake in their boots before running away, much Aroha to you Pat from Aotearoa

      ***** Yes. This Haka was performed on ANZAC day commemorating 100 years (2015), since the Australia New Zealand Army Corps was first formed and assigned during WWI. Hence why you see some older vehicles in the background :)

    I wonder what's the guys think of the Civilians having to be disarmed and do they feel its a good move or make their country weaker. Also will they vote in a PM that care more for New Zealand. Civilians have a big role in protecting their country also. Good luck turning in your weapons what next.
