I am retired military and have rental properties and a dividend income portfolio I have been building since the nineties. I tried to live in the PI for 13 months and didn’t like it. I traveled around Asia four over four years and decided to come back to America. I was super lonely there and bored after awhile. The expats I met there were not really nice people and the locals seemed like they always wanted something from me. I am significantly happier in Arizona and glad I moved back. I genuinely tried to make it work and just couldn’t.

We are over here for 6 months to see if we like it. I agree with you on the expats. Most of the expats I've said hi to just look at me. Like what do you doing even looking at me? I've only had four or five say hi back. Probably about 100 times that I said hi to acknowledge me. Most of the expats seem very stuck up. I enjoy the Filipino people, but the expats have something else to desire.

It's certainly not for most. I pity those with stars in their eyes that "sell everything" and move to the PI without ever having visited. Most vloggers only show the "good" side.

Being in the military helped a lot. Being transferred overseas to Europe was great for a total of 9 years. I was able to visit other European countries and a quick tour in Saudi Arabia. I was able to vacation in Bali and Singapore. So others who haven't done a vacation (over 2 weeks) are missing a lot. Excellent subject Steve, Thanks.

If your a happy person you will generally be happy anywhere as you tend to be positive-no need to humble brag with others and happy with simple things (reading kindle, hobbies on you tube, watching sports, gym/pool/steam in 🇹🇭 -younger pretty Thai gf) and times have changed and alot of us have toxic family members so there’s no need to interact with them anymore so hence Asia!

It's the fear of the unknown that prevents people leaving their safety bubble. Thank God for the army introducing me to the rest of the world. Problem now is cost, have to have that safety net. I'll get there!!!!

I am a FilAm, and I have a 20 percent discount. Ask PRA to lobby for 20 percent of ex-pats living permanently in the Philippines. Steve, you are correct. Those people who do not travel are usually grouchy, and their personalities are very negative.😊

For me, it's all about the people here. Heck, I can go a whole week in Hawaii without interacting with a soul - not here. Everybody knows me by name, from my friends in the gym, restaurants, and the ladies that do my laundry. i like it here, so much I've decided to go for my Classic SRRVisa - but whew, i don't think I could've done it on my own. Just the process of getting some documents apostilled was a venture back home. Currently waiting for my NBI Clearance, and I'm hoping they will accept my cashiers check for my $10k deposit. With the SRRVisa, I'm hoping to take college classes here to keep me busy through my retirement. Thank you for what you do to keep me informed.

I’m planning on visiting the Philippians in the late Spring or Summer of next year. I’m an Army Veteran. I’d like to live in a year around cool temperature environment. The Baguio region looks to be promising. I would love to meet up with you and fellow expats while I explore the possibilities of becoming a permanent resident.

Personality has a lot to do with what one needs to be content. I have not experienced loneliness.

By what your title of your video suggests? NOTHING at all because I did what you are doing at age 42 and in the same country. Made it 9 months and bailed. Haven't been back and I'm coming up on 67 y/o married to a Filipina I met here in the US. The older you get in my opinion the less your desire should be to live there mainly due to their wacky health care system. If you are ok with it than fine, you can have my place. I can afford to live in the US so no, I'm not missing anything!❤❤

Steve - I have been looking far and wide in the US, for a one bedroom for $1500. Still cannot find a decent one. Plus, they also want at least one year lease.

Thinking further on this, when growing up we had community, not just immediate but neighbors, almost everyone. A supportive network. That's gone now and everytime you leave the house , sanctuary, its a war out there, rudeness, etc. you're seen as just get out of the way you're in MY way. Don't leave the driveway is best policy. So how can the average even think that by leaving their home another country is going to treat you as a person. Accepting and open to some sort of relationship. US gave up personal interaction and support and replaced it with the acquisition of more things. So the fear is one spends all the money, throws themselves without protection into the unknown withbthe perceived idea why would other cultures treat me better than my own

Many health insurance plans are good in the Philippines (Not Medicare unfortunately). Health care is way cheaper and some people self insure.

Do yourself a favor and don't look to buy anything in the Philippines for at least a year. Most expats will say don't ever look to buy anything. Expats can own condos but not land.

At present, concerning how things are in PI, wife and I ain’t missing anything by living there full time. Minus possible housing outside the big cities, things ain’t cheap. I actually live cheaper in the USA MidWest. Watching TH-cam food is expensive, unless you can live off fish and rice. Watching TH-cam, i just not convinced, PI is so dirt cheaper than areas of the USA can be.
