At one point in the quest, you find a memory of Olgierd washing blood off his hands, when Iris asks him what he was doing, he says he was working, or something like that. I like to think he was constructing what would be the body of the caretaker.
I was really sad when I tried to display the shovel in Corvo Bianco, and found out that the weapon racks won't take it. I really wanted that nasty piece of work on my wall.

@@Chris_128 Relic weapons can be displayed though? I think not the super odd ones like the Caretaker's shovel, but normal swords and axes can be displayed, even if they are relics (although I'm not exactly sure)
So why does the caretaker have a flap of skin sewn over its face? Could it be because maybe Olgierd used a body that Iris may have recognized. Her own father's body perhaps?
Geralt: Sees blood and tombs everywhere in the gardens. Also sees the body of the thief in the distance near a weird dude digging his grave Also Geralt: "Sup?"
In German he is called the „Pedell“, which is an ancient word for caretaker. Those old middle-german names appear often in the german game which I think adds another mysterious touch
The whole witcher 3 plus the expansion packs had an amazing storyline the lady iris story is my favourite cos it a sort Edgar Allan Poe gothic horror with scary monsters, ghosts etc plus the story has quite a sad theme when you hear the suffering of Lady Iris and her broken heart
One trick that helps immensely in the fight is using freeze grenades on him when he summons spirits to heal himself. He actually is affected by the grenade and it stops him in his tracks while you can go about killing the spirits he summoned, which go down in one hit thankfully.

From the sounds of it, its a type of golem. A flesh golem to be more exact which happens to be a type of nechromancy. Atleast from my knowledge it is. The difference between a regular golem and a flesh golem is that it requires a sacrificial body with fresh parts and as was stated a special ritual. As it can be seen it only does what it is commanded to do which is actually due to the lack of a soul since it doesnt have sentience. Each piece that looks like it was hacked off and sewn back together are most likely tethers for the black magic to move the body parts like a puppet. The tethers could be anything that the summoner used to store his or her magic into to allow for the black magic to move the body more freely. This is just my theory.
I've been playing this game for about a month now and fully intend on getting both expansion DLC's and all i can say this is one of the best games i have ever played and i think it's my number 1 favorite. This remains the only fight that ever really challenged me. It was very hard to figure out. Seemed as though nothing worked. And he does a lot of damage. Was a crazy fight, and cool character.
I think what makes "demons" intriguing in The Witcher is that they aren't explained that much. Like we don't really know much about O'Dimm, just that he's The Witcher's version of Mephistopheles. I wonder if Hyms could be demons, they're so unlike any other monsters and they possess hosts...
Hm, maybe they're classified as such because "demons" don't yet exist as a classification. Like before vampires were a classification, I'm sure some older Witchers classified some of the more animalistic vampires as relics. It makes me curious if Witchers adapt their classifications as they find new monsters, if monsters evolve at all over time, and what category would someone like Gaunter O'Dimm be under, since he's clearly not human...

you know, i agree with you: given on how the body is all stitched together, he is a blind servant, and as you said, when he dies it looks like a spirit is released, I think that the caretaker's body is just a vessel that had been created and in which Olgierd imprisoned the will and strenght of a spirit of some sort. After all, even the cat and dog spirits said that their animal form is not their true form and again I agree with you, I find highly improbable for it to be a true demon, as in the book "Season of Storms" it is said that controlling a true demon, even with goethia, is almost impossible, and the vessel (human, animal, or makeshift) goes on a rampage and kills and mauls until it gets stopped. But, it might also be that, like vampires, humans and other beings, demons are a very varied group of beings ranging from the nigh omnipowerful O'Dimm to the omicidial beasts, so...who knows. Since Season of Storms came out in 2013, 14 good years after the end of the main serie, and is actually a prequel to the whole Striga affair, Sapkowski might make another book exploring the demons a bit better
I find fascinating how much we don't know about The Witcher's world, for example the plane where these demons exist. How do you think that world looks and works? Those misterious and almost never discussed topics are always cool to explore.

02:13 - To be fair: Most monsters in the Witcher universe, are from another world or at least came through another world into the one where Geralt lives.
Honestly? i like this guy, always feel bad when i have to kill him, i mean, Olgierd summoned him to take care over the house and don't let anybody in, and that's everything he's doing, literally, he's not really "evil" he's just doing his job, and the thieves he killed? come on, if he didn't kill them i would, don't steal from Olgierd fellas
I have to agree, but I see the thieves point of view too. The war has broken out and also you might not be rich and want to buy food so you loot some stuff from Olgierds estate, which was pretty epic and rich. The Caretaker and the thieves aren't evil, I think.
Yeah man, you're missing out. This is easily one of the best games I've ever played. I'd happily pay double the price of this game, there's just so much content, all of it memorable and polished. Amazing DLC's as well. Do yourself a favor and buy it. The only regret you'll have is not getting it sooner.
Not gonna try to convince you too buy the game. You gotta be ready to give up a lot of time. Most people who beat the game (plus DlC) easily put in over a hundred hours.
Great video as always. I just beat Caretaker today and was looking for an explanation video. MAN it gave me serious shivers and cold in my backbone. Definitely the most fearsome character for me in entire game.
What if it's body is composed of bits of Olgierd? Like he cut pieces off of himself that regenerated and he didn't want to cause Iris to freak out even more so he didn't use his own face.
In this fight I first assumed he is some sort of a specter so I used specter oil, but then I noticed my damage output is kinda weak so I assumed he must be a cursed one (since Cursed ones are usually creatures that were human at one point and this guy certainly looks like a humanoid)... Well, only after the fight was over and I read the beastiary I learned that he counts as a Relict so I should have used Relict oil. :/ I mean now that I know he is a demon summoned via use of black magic it does make sense but before that I couldn't know :P Still an awesome encounter and this detail of my ignorance of how to approach the fight sure made it more interesting, I was as clueless as Geralt was to wtf is going on (well except he was sort of surprised Iris was dead which I thought was fucking logical as soon as you look at the house from a distance lol)!
I believe the Caretaker to be a FleshGolem of sorts. That'd explain it's mannerisms and the oddities concerning the body, especially it's face. And golems as we know, can be controlled, so that'd explain it's docility in it's chores, and then it's ferocity in it's defensiveness, as it must protect it's masters possessions.
the caretaker is the only character who genuinely just creeped me out... i was frantically searching for an oil to use against it but obvious, i had no clue what he was. TW3 has so many surprises up its sleeves
Fighting him was one of the best adrenaline rush I got during the game, and the spade was worth it in the end. Also, I think Hearts of Stone is a better story than Blood and Wine, I hoped it would be longer.
Caretaker was the 2nd hardest fight on DM and DM NG+ behind the damn ciri crones fight. It was basically a Quenn and stall until he has all 3 healing phases finish
i played this quest for the first time at 4 in the morning. was not my brightest idea. The Caretaker, the cat and dog, and the Lady in the Painting were 10x creepier

I guess this guy is a mouthbreather
Love these vids !!!! Subscribed for sure ! Time to binge hahaha
You should do a video on the skelligan werewolf not morkvarg but the ones native to skellige, keep it up dude luv the vids
I always got a strong silent hill vibe from the caretaker, I can very easily see him in either universe
Good point!
02:13 - To be fair: Most monsters in the Witcher universe, are from another world or at least came through another world into the one where Geralt lives.
Woah woah woah. I want to know that the shooting star was at 3:16
I have never seen that!
Hey, he's a little shy and spooky, but at least he takes his job seriously! A+ for effort.
Honestly? i like this guy, always feel bad when i have to kill him, i mean, Olgierd summoned him to take care over the house and don't let anybody in, and that's everything he's doing, literally, he's not really "evil" he's just doing his job, and the thieves he killed? come on, if he didn't kill them i would, don't steal from Olgierd fellas
I have to agree, but I see the thieves point of view too. The war has broken out and also you might not be rich and want to buy food so you loot some stuff from Olgierds estate, which was pretty epic and rich. The Caretaker and the thieves aren't evil, I think.
Well done mate
This character was the toughest to take down so far imo. Thanks for the video!
Np man! He was difficult!
I don’t even own the game but watch every video you post. Good shit
Bacon Lover Get it! For real! Best game ever
Thanks you!
Geralt: hey you hear me???
Caretaker: that's about all I do
Hos mansion campaign gave me silent hill vibes
Great video as always. I just beat Caretaker today and was looking for an explanation video. MAN it gave me serious shivers and cold in my backbone. Definitely the most fearsome character for me in entire game.
Thanks man! He's really cool!
In reality the caretaker is shovel knight he came with the other monsters and he thinks that iris is actually shield knight.
aha
@@WitcherGeorge That's all you can come up with?
What if it's body is composed of bits of Olgierd? Like he cut pieces off of himself that regenerated and he didn't want to cause Iris to freak out even more so he didn't use his own face.
In this fight I first assumed he is some sort of a specter so I used specter oil, but then I noticed my damage output is kinda weak so I assumed he must be a cursed one (since Cursed ones are usually creatures that were human at one point and this guy certainly looks like a humanoid)... Well, only after the fight was over and I read the beastiary I learned that he counts as a Relict so I should have used Relict oil. :/ I mean now that I know he is a demon summoned via use of black magic it does make sense but before that I couldn't know :P
Still an awesome encounter and this detail of my ignorance of how to approach the fight sure made it more interesting, I was as clueless as Geralt was to wtf is going on (well except he was sort of surprised Iris was dead which I thought was fucking logical as soon as you look at the house from a distance lol)!
Your videos are the best, thank you.
Thanks man!
My favorite line in the whole game was after this fight. " What the FUCK was that". 😂😂😂😂
Fun fact: goetia means "charm" in greek (γοητεία)
Awesome!
Always enjoy you videos George! Keep it up!!!
Thanks man!
have always wondered about this thing. Thanks for doing this!
Np man! Glad you enjoyed!
Heart of Stone is more creepy than Blood and Wine, cuz Gaunter and Caretaker
In cyberpunk 2077 towards the end game, you can get a shovel melee weapon and I think it’s an homage to this weapon here
HoS in early: oh fun and cute game with the wedding stuff
HoS later : Holly shit the story is deep....
the caretaker is the only character who genuinely just creeped me out... i was frantically searching for an oil to use against it but obvious, i had no clue what he was. TW3 has so many surprises up its sleeves
Fighting him was one of the best adrenaline rush I got during the game, and the spade was worth it in the end. Also, I think Hearts of Stone is a better story than Blood and Wine, I hoped it would be longer.
So good!
The Caretaker is by far my favorite ''boss'' in the Witcher games!
same, he was almost the most challenging and most fun to fight against
By far? I would have too look back but that seems like a stretch. Too each their own I guess.
He's so awesome!
He is my favorite boss in the game, because of his difficulty, basic attack pattern, aura, and just general presence.
You make great Witcher vids, keep it up man. ❤❤❤
Thank you man!
Thank you for doing the recommendation!
Np man!
So the green glow is from the shovel and he not only heals from it but the lower his health the more dmg he does
It would be cool if Gerald could summon spirits with the spade during battle
Noppera-Bo
The cat says it comes from somewhere far away, it fights like it's using a naginata and etc.
New sub here. Would love to hear you talk about roach !
Same! You here after the Netflix show as well?
Caretaker was the 2nd hardest fight on DM and DM NG+ behind the damn ciri crones fight. It was basically a Quenn and stall until he has all 3 healing phases finish
3rd has to be eredin
Great video! Caretaker is creepy as hell! Also wanted to ask how you make these videos? I mean stopping the game and moving the camera like that?
Console commands!
i played this quest for the first time at 4 in the morning. was not my brightest idea. The Caretaker, the cat and dog, and the Lady in the Painting were 10x creepier
Very cool video!
Thanks man!
That would be an amazing character to dress up as, during Halloween.
That it would aha
Ahh yes one of the most interesting and infuriating fights in the witcher. Always thought he was very interesting great video man.
He's very cool!
I think it's pretty obvious. Oldgierd summons spirits from other realms - first placing them inside household pets, then went on to stitch together his own 'frankensteins monster' and placed an otherworldly spirit inside that
Ahh dude, thanks for covering this!
Np man!
This was the best Boss in al Witcher 3, so awesome
imagine this thing watering the flowers and cleaning the house
Hi there again witcher George another amazing video I really love your content bro can I ask you a suggestion for the next video like this please could you do a video about pestas like annabelle on the fyke Isle quest because I think that she is a different type of pesta compared to moonwraiths and noonwraiths hope to hear your thoughts on the idea
She was interesting. I played both choices. *SPOILER*
One where it says she might have been related to an outbreak of the plague in a nearby village, and then how when you bring her bones to her old lover she kills him, or how in the other choice he kisses her and he dies and so does she. Very interesting character
@@billf.6551 Hi man thanks for cometing on my opinion yeah I'm the same iv done both decisions as well and when geralt says that she can talk back to him and when geralt asks her about annabelle hears the other waiths around fyke Isle she's avoids the question so I think she his like a higher pesta or higher pesta waith so I hope witcher George can do a video on this so I can know a bit more of that's possible 😊
Good idea and thank you!
@@WitcherGeorge thanks so much for your reply witcher George I was just thinking to myself about annabelle and the fyke Isle quest because she striked me has a higher pesta because when geralt said could she communicate with the other waiths around fyke Isle she completely changed the question I would really love if you could do a video about it so we could all get know more about it 😁
So he was the Witcher version of Lurch(The Addams family).
Instant Silent Hill vibes from this dude
Guess that's were they summoned him from
