The wonderful, talented and handsome Hugh Laurie OBE CBE joins us in studio to talk about Veep as well as a bunch of other stuff. A true gentlemen and one we loved to spend time with.
Great booking, chaps. Hugh is comedy genius and my old next door neighbour on Tufnell Park Rd in the 90's. He deserves a knighthood for his Blackadder contributions alone.
Grew up with Laurie on Blackadder and A Bit of Fry and Laurie. This was such a treat! Fantastic guest, thanks for this guys! (Quietly crossing fingers for a Stephen Fry episode)
Love Hugh Laurie ❤️ So interesting. He is a person one wants to understand and know about him. Why? How can someone just be talented? Love his ways to self reflection. He came here (planet-life) with it ✨
This is fantastic! There are not a lot of new-ish youtube clips featuring Hugh, and to see all three of you together is a real treat. At 20:50 where you talk about British actors tackling Southern American accents, Tom Hiddleston portrayed Hank Williams in a feature film biopic and the accent was spot on.
"Two things have always been true about human beings. One, the world is always getting better. Two, the people living at that time think it`s getting worse." - Penn Jillette
aww, this was just awesome. hugh laurie is one of my fave actors. haha that bit about the heroes and the beard. also loving the vibe of this podcast. they’re all just chilling and hanging around, bouncing from subject to subject. i havent seen veep but now imma go and watch. 💕💕💕
I've seen him on a show like Blackadder and then in American shows like Veep and House and it's amazing how flawless his American accent is. I sometimes forget those characters are played by the same actor.
Love Hugh Laurie. If you haven’t watched A Bit of Fry & Laurie and Jeeves & Wooster you’re missing out. Also, it’s amusing to listen to non-religious people talk about what they think being religious is!
I'd be really curious to ask him who he think did a better job, him being a British man playing an American Sherlock or Robert Downey Jr an American playing a British Sherlock
It is possible to find nuance and range within a given structure (talking of Shakespeare & verse), otherwise there wouldn't be 200 different orchestras/conductors' versions of Beethoven's 5th that you could buy: the instruments aren't varying away from the notes from the score or suddenly wildly improvising, but nevertheless the overall interpretations are markedly different. Instead of striking outwards, the artist delves within.
The well respected British poet and actor Benjamin Zephaniah turned down the honour because he did not want the words 'British Empire' added to his name, and it was an extremely honourable decision. Many other respected people also turned it down and for very respectable reasons.
Definitely need more Hugh Laurie on podcasts!!
Every podcast needs more Hugh Laurie.
Definitely need more Hugh Laurie, full-stop!😊
Lex Fridman and him would be an interesting mix
Great booking, chaps. Hugh is comedy genius and my old next door neighbour on Tufnell Park Rd in the 90's. He deserves a knighthood for his Blackadder contributions alone.
I don't think we have a vote in him getting knighted but if we did HE WOULD BE.
I lived on Tufnell Park Road in the late 80s! Er… that’s all I got.
My favorite actor of all time and Veep was one of my favorites. Great show!!
He’s the best.
One of my favorite episodes yet. Gotta be one of the best guests on the show so far
He's incredible.
@@secondincommandATC you didn't treat him well.......
WHERE WAS THE BUSTY SERVING WENCHES!!!
AND WHERE WERE THE MONOCLES
I will probably watch anything with Hugh Laurie. ❤
Grew up with Laurie on Blackadder and A Bit of Fry and Laurie. This was such a treat! Fantastic guest, thanks for this guys!

Even the title A Bit of... is brilliant
Soupy twist.
When I first started watching you guys i always hoped one day you’d get Hugh Laurie
We always knew we'd get him on when we got to the Tom James run.
I listened to the podcast first, and now I’m watching the interview again. Hugh Laurie needs to be seen. ❤️
Love Hugh Laurie ❤️ So interesting. He is a person one wants to understand and know about him. Why? How can someone just be talented? Love his ways to self reflection. He came here (planet-life) with it ✨
An absolute comedy icon! What a treat for Hugh and Matt.
They were appreciative of my time. For that i thank them.
Beautiful interview! Thank you guys! Hugh must’ve been fun to be around
Always.

Our pleasure!
Loved the 3 of you on Veep! Fantastic work. Keep it up gentlemen!
Thank you kindly!!
What an intelligent, talented, lovely man...
Oh My God, I lovvvveeeee Huge Laurie!!!!!!!!!!!!
He's the best.
I love him! ❤
We do too
I appreaciate his take on academics on art... the stiffness of many academics in music is offputing for students.
He's so wonderful and smart about just about everything.
It's ironic that these places that are there to educate and "grow" artists can also be so confining in their views and approach.
I'm genuinely excited for this.
We were genuinely excited to have him in!
What an awesome episode! Hugh Laurie is incredible.
Entertainment is important. It should be recognised and awarded.
Brilliant. Keep up the good work
Thank you we will try!
Tom James in the HOUSE!

I will forever DIE at Matt’s DL joke never meet your heroes. It took the room entirely too long to get that!!!!
i love their joke of a rivarly. made me laugh so much.
Loved the podcast!
Oh the men We were waiting for 😊
This was the best catchup possible. Both Sasha and Michael are fantastic people and actors. Loved the topics.

Try telling that to people living in war zones, or countries becoming fascist and losing human rights.
This is amazing
We thought so too!

Lovely conversation!
Bulgaria is one place where both the yes and no gestures are reversed: a headshake means yes and a nod means no.
Hugh Laurie is one of my favorite actors became a fan of his after watching House MD for the first time recently 😍
Have you heard Hugh Laurie sing 'the blues'?
He's great.
Loved Hugh Laurie since "Fry and Laurie" and my favorite is him as George, Prince of Wales in "Blackadder".😃😆😅😂😃😅😂😆😃😅😂
I've seen him on a show like Blackadder and then in American shows like Veep and House and it's amazing how flawless his American accent is. I sometimes forget those characters are played by the same actor.
Thank god for Hugh Laurie
I don't believe in a God so I thank Hugh Laurie's parents for him...and Hugh himself for being as he is.
Hugh Laurie is pure gold. ❤❤❤
When Matt asks about beating PMs, Laurie answers simply how many, but I wonder what story is unwrapping in his head at this moment.
god, i love you hugh
Wow 😮
Yes. Our feelings exactly.
The "coach" point is such a good one!
Insane! How does this have barely any views? Thank you so much guys, such a great talk! Hugh is awesome ❤️
I always got a Bill Clinton vibe from Laurie as Tom James. Funny that he comes up but that it was never intended!
I had never heard him speak to that before but i love the comp
What a talented sod he is! 😊 So good to listen to him in his native tongue.
Imersão is the translation of immersion!!! Huge fan from brazil!!!🇧🇷
This needs to be way more viral.
The last time I was listening to this podcast, I dislocated my kneecap on a train.
So I suppose this is like therapy 😅
PLEASE don't ride trains and get hurt while listening to us. Save that for the smartless guys.
he knows beard fits him so much but he is so english
A true honor ♥️
Very smart remark from your son. 😊
Love!!!
He rules.
FINALLY!!
I started watching Veep because of Hugh Laurie. and I loved the show before Hugh Laurie appeared in it
Love Hugh Laurie. If you haven’t watched A Bit of Fry & Laurie and Jeeves & Wooster you’re missing out.

Oh that's a really great podcast, I love it!!! Best guest ever! When was it recorded?
Honestly can’t remember but it was during a heat wave.
Love You
Yes in Turkey an upward head movement is No
Kamala is making Veep great again. So many people are re-watching now :)
looove hugh laurie
amazing
we thought so too
How brilliant x were you guys recording in England or USA?
Usa
Hugh Laurie was on Q.I., a comedy panel show, when Stephen Fry was hosting.
Come on we want to hear Walsh's monarch joke that was edited out at 1:16 lol !
There wasn't a joke that was edited out! Just a stammer that was cleaned up!
@@secondincommandATC Sounds like a classic McLlintock spin to me... Kidding, thanks for the info !
Thanks for being a good father to Stewart Little 🐁🏎️
Jeez how has hugh aged 20 years in just 10 years
Do you still smoke?
Also, Jesus story.
😅 smooth operators here.
Please please get Sufe Bradshaw! Love Sue.
I think it’s fair to say that we’ve produced a disproportionate number of people way better at being grandparents than can put on good pageantry 🇬🇧
In the country as a whole? Yeah for sure. In the monarchy? I'll leave that up to others to do the math.
@@secondincommandATC I have my suspicions that the ratio may be quite similar…

mike and johan have a fucking podcast. Best day ever
Hugh "Never Been on a Gameshow" Laurie... does the very first episode of QI not ring any bells? 😂 please get him back for another episode guys!
Heyyyy... Mr. Laurie i fuckin love you! ❤
They said he wouldn’t succeed in Mi-6; he was a huge hit in Mi-5…
Hugh looks like Clint Eastwood
1:16 dying to know what cut out here
Hugh Laurie did one episode of QI when his dearly beloved Stephen Fry hosted it, pre-House!
Sir
Thank you for House MD
Hugh Laurie would know that there is 'a lot of leg work' being a policeman. (From 'A Bit of Fry & Laurie'.)
That accent 😍
So dreamy.
When did the video shoot?
Honestly I can't even remember. A few months ago?
Hugh is america’s greatest actor ! …hang on, what? oh, Britain’s greatest american actor !
hugh one chance 😭😭
Just crossed my mind... Hugh Laurie could probably impersonate quite well Clint Eastwood in a bioptic.
Matt has to remember that being awful to women in a 50s way is very on-brand for American Christianity.
Daniel Craig, Knives Out

Liquid death how much percentage is that
They just have it in the office and we aren’t sponsored by them.
Hugh Laurie is awesome as always, well the other 2 guys come across as odd af...
1:46 😂😂
Daniel Craig in Knives Out!
u don't "just go with it" and meet with a serial killer to be handed one of their forks.
👍
Just got to the part where he's off to Russia with his "band". The guy's a spy

It really wasn’t. He was an utterly ungrateful pillock who spat on the country that gave him his career.
Now the real question is is there gonna be a new House season?
No the real question is does the asylum know you've escaped.
Hugh O'Balls ? hahahaha
You’re not brave enough 😂
Everything great except for Matt’s hat. Please lose it Hackie Stewart
He pulls it off!!
And the custard yellow T shirt, oh dear.
