I really like the dynamic range, especially. She also used vibrato very intentionally--lots of straight tones giving way to vibrato at the end of phrases. You can't leave out the joy, though--her delighting in the situation, and appreciating her own gifts--it is palpable in those moments where you see her face. This also came at a time of particular national unity following the attack on the Towers and American troops in harm's way, so it was a very friendly context for performing the National Anthem, and that had something to do with why people upvote this performance as well. It's always been one of my faves. I'm not gonna lie though--this a cappella performance by quintet of young teenagers is right up there. Give it a listen and thank me later.😃 th-cam.com/video/QKCVS57j284/w-d-xo.htmlsi=8fZD1lrf8Gt2sB4v
Kim Burrell was absolutely Not Whitney's mentor. She was a friend. But I can't put anyone against Whitney Houston at this point, as far as a great singer goes. Whitney was in her own league. RIP, she left us some amazing music ❤👍🏼

Thanks for sharing another great video. Great job.❤❤😊😊Whitney is awesome. However please check out Chris Stapleton singing his version of the National Anthem. His version is spectacular and on another level. He could definately give Whintney a run for her money and give her a great challenge.❤❤❤
His version is incredible, but sorry not on this level of pitch perfectness and bombast and dynamics and control. Not taking anything away from his because he is probably a diustant second. You do not understand the magnitude of Whitneys version. This a 1991 version and for 33 years it has stood separate, You can find every year dozens of articles about this version for 33 straight years. It is the only version to sell over a million physical copies and land on Number 6 on billboard pop chart! When Chris's version can stand the test of time and have over a 1000 articles about it over 33 years post singing then you can talk about it giving Whitneys version a run for its money. Until then, what you typed is recency bias. There is no metric to support your assertion.

Thanks for your reactions!
Whitney Houston had a once in a lifetime voice. Her range, power, and how absolutely effortless she made it seem, truly truly amazing.
She jumps down at the end and waves like "thanks, y'all" like she just didn't do what she just did.
The amazement in baby girl's eyes is the perfect example of what a God-given talent projects!
The greatest singer ever in my opinion. No one can unseat this version of the national anthem. She was the best of the best!
Mariah Carey in her prime????
We were/are blessed by her voice. It just hits. In your soul. Thank you Whitney. ❤
Twelve years on and she is still the unbeatable golden standard as far as female singers are concerned.Whitney Houston
Whitney will always be the queen, always!
Facts.
Still THE best of all time. Just thinking about it gives me goosebumps. And makes me cry.
I've never heard anyone sing the Star Spangled Banner better than Whitney Houston.

I agree. The best singer the world has ever known.

Everyone that followed doing the National Anthem is judged by 1-Whitney...She is the best ever. She did it flawlessly, without effort and with heart.
What amazes me is that she didn’t rehearse this. She listed to the orchestras composition on a Walkman right before the performance

Whitney Houston is as good of a match for a diva voice as Annie Lennox, both can sing over instruments and backup vocalists and still be heard clearly

She arbitrarily changed it from the 3/4 time it was written in to 4/4 for some reason.
To make it harder which makes it easier for her lol
They wanted her to change it and her father told them to ef off LOL
