    Ár nAthair, atá ar neamh,
    /Awr n-yah-her, ah-taw air nyav/
    Go naofar d'ainm,
    /guh nay-fer dan-im/
    Go dtaga do ríocht,
    /guh dog-uh duh ree-okht/
Go ndéantar do thoil ar an talamh,
    /guh nyay-an-tur duh hell air on tah-lu/
    Mar a dhéantar ar neamh.
    /mar uh yay-an-tar air nyav/
    Ár n-arán laethúil tabhair dúinn inniu;
    /Awr nuh-rawn lay-hoole choor doon in-nyov/
    Agus maith dúinn ár bhfiacha,
    /ah-gus mah doon awr via-khah/
Mar a mhaithimidne dár bhféichúina féin.
    /mar uh wah-hi-midge-ne dawr vey-koo-nah fayn/
Agus ná lig sinn i gcathú,
/ah-gus naw lig shin ih gah-hoo/
    Ach saor sinn ó olc.
    /okh seer shin oh ulk/
    Áiméan.
    /Aw-mayn/

My grandmother could recite the Lord's Prayer in Irish, which is remarkable since she never lived in Ireland. Her parents left during the Famine, so she must have learned it from them. It is interesting to think of the generations of people passing on this tradition to their children. Thanks for helping me connect to a family tradition, Siobhan1

My grandmother taught me this prayer in gaelic in 1980. I still have it memorized and can recite it (wrongly-I'm sure) but have never heard it uttered by another person until now. Never thought I would hear it again- thank you. Lovely.

He is a master hunter who always clears a path for us to fall into His trap. His trap is a love eternal that shines through us. When we listen He reveals his many secrets and grants His wisdom and ways.
Love as fiercely as He persues us and wise will be thy ways and good shalt be thy fruits.
Just remember to say thanks for the fertiliser.
      Love always

Thank you Siobhán! I appreciate having the pronunciation written out with each line. I've only ever heard this rattled off at high speed, so your delivery line by line is much appreciated. It's very helpful. Perhaps you could put the syllable stress in all caps. (My ancestors came from West Cork, Galway and Mayo, and I never heard a word of Irish in our family, so this is beautiful to hear.)

I live in north Louisiana, and it is definitely not a part of the Gaeltacht! I would love to know someone with command of the language, because I am finding pronunciation to be the toughest part. However, I love the sound of the language, and I want to do my small part to keep it alive. I printed a copy of Ár nAthair today, and im using your video to go through it word by word. I'll keep going! Go raibh math agat arís!

Would really appreciate it and appreciate all your videos.

My grandmother had "An Irish Blessing" hanging on her wall from my earliest memories. I have no idea whether it's actually an Irish blessing, but it's pretty either way and I'd love to hear it in Irish:
May the road rise to meet you,
may the wind be ever at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and the rains fall soft upon your fields.
    And until we meet again,

Ar n-aran leathuile -is probably a misinterpretation as is the English form our daily bread, as the original word epousious/n bread …has no direct translation. The closest being the syriac which is closest to Aramaic..and means ameno, which means perpetual, constant, lasting, trustworthy , never ceasing…. I can’t think of a word that would equate and I’ve lost a lot of my Gaelic. Maybe go deo, gan Deireadh, etc

Go raibh mile maith agat. I have shared this with my friends here in Germany. Would you be kind enough to recite this lovely prayer for me in Irish?
O my Lord! Make Thy beauty to be my food, and Thy presence my drink, and Thy pleasure my hope, and praise of Thee my action, and remembrance of Thee my companion, and the power of Thy sovereignty my succorer, and Thy habitation my home, and my dwelling-place the seat Thou hast sanctified from the limitations imposed upon them who are shut out as by a veil from Thee.
Thou art, verily, the Almighty, the All-Glorious, the Most Powerful.
    Bahá’u’lláh

hi there, sorry i know you have a lot of requests. i've seen so many different versions of the Beannacht Ghaelach "go n-éirí an bóthar leat..." online. i grew up in australia (dual irish citizen trying to learn irish) and this blessing is really important to me as my grandfather shared it with me. i have seen so many different versions especially of the verb in the final line (mbosa vs mbois vs mbos) and would love to know the correct way to say it. i've googled but cannot find anything so thought you may be able to help me.
    le meas,
    sorcha

    Hello Siobhan,
Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful language !
I need your help with a question, please.
I'm looking for a name for my band which plays medieval celtic music.
It can be „water of life“ in a biblical sense, also “Uisce beatha”.
But „Uisce beatha” is a protected name for whiskey.
Another option could be “Uisce na beatha” or “Uisce den saol”
Please, can you tell me the difference in the meaning between all three terms?
    Le do thoil :-)
    Thank you in advance!

How about: May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields,
    And, until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

This may be late, but I just started the free course on bite size, I am Irish and live in the us, I’ve been in love with Irish Gaelic since I was a kid. I would love to hear romans 12:2 in Irish if you wouldn’t mind. It is my life verse and means so much to me, either that or Psalm 27:1-3. Thanks so much
