  • Hopefully, you enjoy the scenery in Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl, because it's quite the walk to reach the main mission Legends of the Zone. Following events in the Red Forest, Skif is off to the Cordon.
After making it to Rookie Village, your next stop is to speak with a man named Sidorovich. Look for an open bunker on the west side of the settlement.
Choose the dialogue option "I'm looking for the X3." Sidorovich explains he's also on the hunt for the lab and is willing to trade information. But you have to do a job for him first: retrieve a missing package that was stolen by bandits.
The bandit hideout is just up the road to the north.
Head there now. You'll need to kill all the bandits and loot the bodies. It doesn't matter how you finish the deed, but Sidorovich did mention giving a bonus for their heads, so go have fun. If you grabbed the unique sniper rifle Whip in An Act of Mercy, now's a good time to put it to work.
Wipe out the bandits and check the bodies for the missing package: the Decoder.
If you left Roosevelt alive in King of the Hill, he'll reach out to you before you get close to the bandit hideout saying he wants to talk. His bandits won't attack if you don't.
Head inside the complex and look to your left. Climb the ladder on the building you see and enter the next room to speak with Roosevelt.
You can opt to kill him here, but there's a more diplomatic way. Skif tells him that the package belonged to Sidorovich. Since Roosevelt doesn't want that kind of smoke, he gives you the Decoder and asks you to apologize on his behalf.
If you do, Roosevelt calls Skif after you return with the package to offer coordinates to Roosevelt's Stash in thanks. His stash is near the settlement under a bridge.
Now that you have the package, you can return it to Sidorovich. If you helped Roosevelt, Skif will ask Sidorovich to not pursue them, which he obliges. The old shopkeeper rewards you with a fat stack of Coupons for your troubles.
He tells you what he knows about Lab X3 and something called the Oasis, a paradise filled with Artifacts for the taking. Sidorovich believes the lab can lead there, and the Decoder is the key to opening the door. But where's the door? Well, Sidorovich suggests asking the stalkers in town to find out if they heard anything.
Leave Sidorovich's shop and enter Rookie Village. There are three citizens you can interrogate: Whale the medic, Multitool the technician, and Wolf the guide.
You can talk to any person in whatever order you choose, but the one with the information is unsurprisingly the guide. Speak with Wolf in the brick building at the edge of town.
Ask him about the lab and he'll mention a name: Dark. According to him, Dark is another stalker asking about the lab. He gives you Dark's coordinates at the end of the conversation.
Wolf's coordinates lead you to the end of the road just past the bandit hideout.
Head down the road until you come to a vehicle tunnel.
Go inside and speak with Jim, one of the men standing outside a doorway. Ask him about Dark and the men will let you inside.
As you walk through the door, Jim calls out to other mercenaries who move to attack you. Fight off the mercs and look for the room Dark is being held. It's at the end of the hallway through the door lit by a florescent light.
Speak with Dark, who admits to ordering the bandits to steal the Decoder. Show it to him, and he'll recruit your aid in his assault on the lab. You don't have much choice, especially since he believes you can't enter without his help. Agree, and he'll give you the coordinates to a place where you'll find a tracker.
To find the lab entrance, look for an open bunker door against the cliff southeast of the waypoint marker.
With the boss down, it's time to meet up with Dark. Do so and follow him to the next area, which prompts a cutscene. Watch it unfold, and strike up a conversation with the man, the myth, the legend, Strelok.
Speak with Strelok, who'll share his own thoughts on Subtle Matter, C-Consciousness, and the Shining Zone. At the end of the conversation he points you to the location of the cartridge the Doctor needs, where an example of the Shining Zone can be seen.
Ascend the ladder to find yourself in a beautiful garden of flowers - the Shining Zone example Strelok mentioned.
Follow the trail of red flowers to the house and take the cartridge from the machine inside, stopping the illusion. Take the PDA of a Stalker from X3 off the side table next to the couch before leaving.
Speak with Strelok one last time and exit the area using a nearby tunnel, ending Legends of the Zone and beginning the next mission, Subtle Matter.
