Yes I like that one as well , and just rediscovered that whole album now in my middle age. It’s timeless , always a hallmark of quality, care and spiritual writing.
Good call on ‘ Downstream ‘

Crisis is the album that's grabbed me as my touch of grey threatens to completely take over. Sister Moonshine & Soapbox Opera beings my faves. I still love all of the Hodgson/Davies Supertramp albums. I've always felt that Even In The Quietest Moments (the song) is out of this world.

I'll give this one a go.
If Everyone Was Listening (Crime of The Century)
    Poor Boy (Crisis? What Crisis?)
Lover Boy (Even In The Quietest Moments...)
Just Another Nervous Wreck (Breakfast In America)
Child of Vision (Breakfast In America)

Yeah Pete, the Deep Cut Dive segments are definitely my favorite of all of your shows. What a disservice commercial radio does for these bands when beating the same songs to death. I mean Pink Floyd has been around since 1967, you mean to tell me they only have 6 songs in their catalog. I am a big Pink Floyd fan, when I hear the opening notes of "Another Brick in the Wall Part 2" I turn the station quicker than if I started hearing Back Street Boys or something after I vomit. I mean that's a terrible thing to say about a band I'm such fan of but you understand the point I'm trying to make. See you later Pete, Ironworker Mike Local 17 Cleveland, Ohio

I’m taking my selections from the 1974-1983 period which contains just about all their best music.
*Lord Is It Mine* (Breakfast in America) - A very spiritual song with a gorgeous melody and sublime vocal from Roger Hodgson.
*A Soapbox Opera* (Crisis? What Crisis?) - Such a beautiful song with a delightful feel to it.
*If Everyone Was Listening* (Crime in the Century) - Perhaps the best song on their best album. Hodgson at his most special.
*Another Man’s Woman* (Crisis? What Crisis?) - Great rocker from Rick Davies featuring a stunning guitar part from Hodgson.
*Crazy* (Famous Last Words) - Wonderful uplifting tune from the last album they recorded with the classic line up.

    1. Maybe I'm A Beggar (from debut) - one of my favourite tunes from Supertramp, really translates that early prog spirit.
    2. Travelled (from Indelibly Stamped) - great upbeat song, also unusual sound from early Supertramp.
    3. Just a Normal Day (from Crisis? What Crisis?) - really great melodic piano tune.
    4. Bonnie (from ...Famous Last Words...) - Don't Leave Me Now and Bonnie my two strong favourites from Famous Last Words, just don't want to repeat, so I decided to mention Bonnie.
    5. An Awful Thing to Waste (from Free As a Bird) - not a great album, but this song is a masterpiece. I call this "progressive dance" music :D

    Personal fav Supertramp song:
    - Just a Normal Day
One of the only two songs actually written by Davies-Hodgson as a duo (the other one being School).
All other songs are credit for both for copyright advantages, but in fact, written individually by Rick or Roger.

    Pete, I enjoyed this set.
Maybe I'm a Beggar = 3.5/5 Slow buildup but picks up the pace with a jazzy shuffle featuring guitar and distorted organ around 3:00.
Sister Moonshine = 4.2/5 Not only does it incorporate most of what many love about ST; it might just try to stuff too much into one song. I enjoy it, but I can see the overcrowding element being the reason why it wasn't released as a single. Usually, radio songs are a little simpler than this.
Lover Boy = 4.5/5 Love the tinkly piano intro that seems like it belongs in a musical on Broadway, then the segue to grander tones at the 1-minute mark. Then 2 minutes in it is clear that it really is a Broadway show tune! Around 4 minutes it starts becoming a rock song. Sonically beautiful. Grand ambitions in this one!
Don't Leave Me Now = 4.7/5 I love a rock song with a piano backbone like this. Then throw in a jazzy sax and guitar solo and I'm sold! Just when I thought the song was ending at 4:40, the drum started slamming and a new mood began. Brilliant.
Better Days = 4.4/5 Parts of it have that Rocky prizefighter pumping up for battle feel. Keeps you guessing where it's going. Did not see the flute solo coming, nor the voice cameos from various US presidents.

Today you picked all excellent deep cut tracks of Sumpertramp. My brother and I lived in my parents’ garage apartment- he from 11 to 21 years-old and I from 13 to 23 years-old. My brother was a fan of prog pop bands like Supertramp. Usually, he would put on an album side at 9 P.M. and hop into bed. After the album side played, his turntable would automatically turn off.
Then from 10 P.M. to 10 :45 P.M., I would play an album of mine on my turntable usually it was progressive rock. We lived there from 1970 to 1980.

I would advise to listen to... too:
Coming Home to See You (Indelibly Stamped) - For me a stand out fun song
If everyone was listening (Crime of the Century) - Beautiful (also if you don't know School, it's a must too)
Easy does it/Sister Moonshine (Crisis, What Crisis) - Somehow these two tracks go hand-in-hand
Casual Conversations (Breakfast in America) - This gentle piece is actually my favorite of this album
Brother Where You Bound (album of the same name) - The long title track, but really good.
    Great vid Pete!

"Sister Moonshine" and "Don't Leave Me Now" were on their 2005 2-CD retrospective, which is where I first heard both songs. Glad to see them on your list there. I knew all of the hits and all of Breakfast and Crime but that retrospective was really an eye-opener. It was my starting place for picking up their albums.

I love it that you chose Sister Moonshine from Crisis. I don't think too many hardcore Supertramp fans take that song very seriously (because it's the more pop-song kind of work that made Breakfast In America such a big seller). Definitely my fave from the album. I agree with you about the singles "Lady" & "Ain't Nobody But Me". They never even charted! I find that quite amazing. I wonder if Sister Moonshine would have fared any better?

1 - Nothing To Show - Supertramp 1970 (Everything's a deep cut off this album)

    3 - Land Ho - Single 1973
4 - Lover Boy - Even In The Quietest Moments 1977
5 - Gold Rush - Slow Motion 2002 (A song the original line-up wrote, and over the years, re-recorded, but never made an album til 2002)
They actually did an interesting version of "All Along The Watchtower" as well back in 1969 before the first album with Richard Palmer on lead vocals, Definitely worth checking out, if you can find it! Cheers!!

Big fan for a lot of years and had alternating faves over that time, started at the age of 15 by been taken in by Breakfast and then discovered everything else they’d done before from then.. my most played are.
    1. Waiting So Long.
    2. Don’t Leave Me Now.
    3. Child of Vision
    4.The Meaning
    5. Take the Long Way Home.
I’d also comment that the first album was totally different with some good tracks which I got into but would not put them in my most liked category and Crime was at one point my all time best album.

Deepest of deep cuts( keeping Pete's definition in mind, not the popular radio hits or the usual cuts spoken of).
    Lover Boy
    Brother Where You Bound
    Waiting So Long
    If Everyone Was Listening
    Poor Boy
You Started Laughing ( the original version of this song was never on an album, it was the "B" side for the single " Lady".) There is a live version on the "Paris" album.
from their debut through " Brother Where You Bound" , so much good stuff to choose from, a pleasantly hard task to choose just a few

During the winter of 1971-72 a young british rock band decided to tour the west coast of Norway. They had just realesed their second album, with not much success. On icy roads the five band members crammed into a VW Beetle. The gear was transported in a van that a furniture company had retired. They got booked for a gig near Haugesund in a youth club. About 300 people showed up, ready to dance and have a great time. But the music wasn't what they were used to, and not very danceable. Halfway through the set the band were asked to leave, and some local musicians had to take over. After the failure of the first two albums, unsuccessful tours and lineup changes the band were ready for their third album, it was called "Crime of the Century".....

    My deep cut picks:
-Tenth avenue breakdown / Dead man's blues ('02, "Slow Motion": classic Supertramp with jazzy horns&sax)
-It's a hard world ('97, "Some Things Never Change" an underrated album imo: dark & jazzy Steely Dan pastiche)
-An awful thing to waste ('87, for sure an apt title for this crappy album "Free As A Bird" but this track I really like)
-Brother where you bound ( '85, "S/T": my all time favorite Supertramp track, epic with a brilliant guitarsolo by David Gilmour)
    -Waiting so long ('82)
    -Child of vision ( '79)
    -Another man's woman / Lady / The meaning ( '75, my fav.album obviously)
    -It's a long road ('70)
As you can tell, I'm more a Rick Davies guy ;-)

My selections come from a variety of albums, and as I don't do compilations I cannot always tell which is which. My deep cuts include the following:
    .
    1. Don't Leave Me Now from "...Famous Last Words..."
    2. Child of Vision from "Breakfast in America"
    3. Crime of the Century from "Crime of the Century"
    4. The Meaning from "Crisis? What Crisis?"
    5. Fool's Overture from "Even in the Quietest Moments"
    .
There is so much cool stuff in the Supertramp discography. "Even in the Quietist Moments" is magic. "Crime of the Century" isn't that far behind. Two other deep cuts from "BiA" worth mentioning are: "Lord is it Mine" and "Just Another Nervous Wreck Now". "Asylum" is another brilliant deep cut from "C of C". "Even in the Quietest Moments" and "Downstream" from the titled LP are among my favorites there, as is "Another Man's Woman" and "A Soapbox Opera" from "Crisis? What Crisis?". My musical experience might not be as rich as other commentators here, but Supertramp seems almost incomparable. I really don't know of any other band quite like them. They were so British, but lush, jazzy, bluesy, proggy and eclectic. The only other band that is so difficult to classify is Jethro Tull. I love them both dearly--but I cannot describe them. Though it didn't take you long to identify them by their sound, they never made the same album twice.

Sister Moonshine from Crisis what Crisis. The Meaning from the same album. Maybe I'm a Beggar from Supertramp. Crime of the Century, the title track, everything on crime of the century is a classic song. Amazing album. This song is too. Even in the Quietest Moments, title track, amazing song that touches deep emotions. I love this song. A side note about Supertramp and Richard Palmer, who left after the 1st album. He was known as Richard Palmer James and wrote the lyrics for King Crimson Larks Tongues in Aspic, Starless and Bible Black, and Red.

The only track I can think of that I love by this band that is not a hit is Fool's Overture. It's probably my favorite track by the band. I was introduced to it in college. I was making a classic rock tape and had some time leftover and asked my roommate if he had any suggestions. He suggested that song. I looked at the length and balked, saying it would take up too much time. I could fit 2 or 3 songs if I didn't put that on there. Eventually, I relented and that is definitely the highlight of that tape.

I used to consider Supertramp my “guilty pleasure” band because I thought they were a bit too poppy for my regular tastes. Now I just consider them a good band I’m a proud fan of. Here’s my list:
    1. “If Everyone Was Listening” from Crime of the Century
    2. The title track to Even in the Quietest Moments
    3. “Lord Is It Mine” off Breakfast in America
    4. “Child of Vision” off Breakfast in America
    5. “Don’t Leave Me Now” from ...Famous Last Words...
I know this list is a bit cramped, having 5 songs from only 4 albums, but I’ve only heard 4 Supertramp albums so far. I do plan on listening to the debut, Indelibly Stamped, and Crisis soon, though

The album Slow Motion is generally off the radar and I think it's by far the best Davies-led Supertramp album. Pretty much classic Supertramp sound.

Pete, my Supertramp deep cuts starts with FROM NOW ON from Even in the Quietest Moments. I agree that Crime of the Century and Breakfast in America are so well known that it would be hard not to have heard these song many times. BUT I would agree with your Steely Dan comparison SO as I picked HOME AT LAST as a SD deep cut with due respect I'm picking arguably two of the better songs of these albums that aren't given the due they deserve over the years. HIDE IN YOUR SHELL is such a good song and I feel it gets lost compared to the other epic songs on Crime... Breakfast in America, like Aja has so may songs that were all over the radio too, except, I feels there's usually a deep cut on an album, relative to the other overplayed singles so CASUAL CONVERSATIONS is this gem for me. As I said earlier, Pete, I like your Steely Dan comparison but I also think The Alan Parsons Project is a lot like SD. Because of their use of a rotating cast of skilled musicians and their penchant for perfection.

Maybe I'm a Beggar is a real Gem. Thank you. Too bad I always think about Supertramp after Crime of the Century. By the way "Don't leave me now" is not really a Deep Cut Dive in Aruba (just like some songs of the other groups you did). Don't leave me now got quite some airplay here. Those were the pre-internet days, when we were 3 months "behind" of what was happening in the US or Europe. So it was up to the local DJ to decide which song from the album was considered the new "single".

Would love to hear a ranking the albums or deep cut dive of King's X, but I've heard you say you're not a big fan. I wonder why? With their mix of excellent musicianship, creative songwriting, and underground longevity seems like they would be right up your musical alley.

When I first heard Supertramp it was 'Bloody Well Right'. I didn't like the song that much but I heard some elements that were interesting, sort of a Steely Dan meets Pink Floyd vibe so I was planning on spending the $2.85 for 'Crime of the Century' but then saw they had another album out, one predating 'Crime' so I bought it instead. When I finally bought 'Crime' it was a little disappointing on some level, but still a decent album. Interesting that a lot of their sound was incorporated into the '80s pop scene.
    1. I really dig the first album... Every bit of it so I'm picking it as my number one 'song'
    2. 'No Inbetween' - Brother Where You Bound
    3. 'Sister Moonshine' - Crisis? What Crisis?
    4. 'Crime of the Century' - Crime of the Century
    5. 'Brother Where You bound? - Brother Where You Bound
Weird that when 'Crisis? What Crisis?' came out 'Sister Moonshine' was the song everyone was talking about, so I was surprised it wasn't released as a single especially because it was played so much on the radio. I'd heard it so much I assumed it was one of their singles.
